0.1EcoSound-TrashRecycle BinTeam project.

Description

ECOSOUNDTRASH is a system of modular stack containers designed to provide separate wastecollection. The modules emit a series of birds chirping, each time one is introducing waste through thecollar, by means of a self-powered solar device concealed inside the containers. Each individual modulehas also been designed to be be utilized as a seat or a table.

This project was initially thought to be realized in plastic by injection molding in order to have a smoothershape, but after due consideration to the production cost involved, it was finally decided to create it inalluminium sheet.

Multifuntional Product

Eco Sound Trash has been designed in such ashape in order that it may be turned into a stoolor a coffee table, according to needs. Being atrash bin for dry waste like paper, plastic andaluminium there are no problems with odors andhygiene. The EST has on its top a lid covered withalcantara material to be as comfortable aspossible when used as a seat (fig. A ). On theside of the bin there is an handhold to facilitatethe lifting of the lid / seat.(fig.B )The three branches, that are all at the sameheight and are designed to withstand a certainweight, can be used as a stand for a plexigas topwhen transforming the EST into a coffeetable.(fig.C)

0.2BambooHouse Lamp

Team Project.

Description

Bamboo is a lamp designed starting from a 3mm thick sheet of PMMA 384x790. How one can easilyimagine our source of inspiration was the bamboo plant. Featuring fascinating properties, this plant iscomposed of cylindrical surfaces alternating with structural nodes. The same pattern was intended torecur in our project where the nodes are represented by the dishes that are so shaped as to hold intension the entire area of coverage.

Cutting geometry.

Sizing

Our goal from the beginning was to design a lamp consisting of few parts and is therefore easy to assemble but still with an impact “important” on the environment. This was the choice that immediately led us to avoid techniques such as slicing or other methods of structur-ing “conventional” that surely would have taken a lot of material, so we would penalize the size of the final result. For this reason we have chosen to bend the material.A choice that has quickly turned into a design challenge because we had very few certainties about the possibility of ending the plate without heating.

The tracking we see is what allows our plate bending 180 °. We tested the dimensionally on a prototype of which we see an enlargement

Following tests, corrections and calculations were able to get the desired result. We have removed by laser cutting the material in the bending zone so to facilitate the material to bend. And ‘really interesting as a material such as PMMA is able to bend by 180 ° without the use of heat sources. It is even more fascinating as the tension created by the plate bending contributes structurally fixed bearing in the joints and nodes.Yes, as fascinating as the bamboo.

0.3Concentricakitchen scale

Team Project.

Description

Concentric is a simple kitchen scale. Few pieces, some snap and you’re done.It is in fact a scale that due to its geometry want to simply repeat those complex mechanisms that normally reside in the household scales.

The heart of the Project is the plate made of harmonic steel shaped by laser. The coupling between the cutting geometry and elasticity of the material causes to the center of the shaped plate to go down if loaded and lathes if downloaded just like a spring.

Geometry We made different cutting tests with regard to the plate. The geometry that we eventuallyselected (blue), is the one that best meets our needs. Since there is no mathematical formula to calculatethe forces acting on that plan, we had decideded to proceed by empirical tests. The calibration that wehave achieved was just satisfactory and we are confident that by a series of additional tests we will be ableto get the optimal result.

0.4GrasshopperBookshelf.

Team Project.

Description

The starting point of this project, as often happens, was a common technology: the bending of a tube /rod of metal. Fascinating and simple technology that allows you to create complex geometry products intime and at low costs. According to this logic we thought about the module. The module is oftensomething complex that, thanks to his characteristic, offers a variety of combinations. After a brief searchof what the market was offering, we decided that our challenge was to create a modular library. Webelieve that the library is an object that, before any other requirements, has to be adaptable to the needsof users. These were the guidelines that have given birth to Grasshopper, i.e. an extensible library inheight and width thanks to one single module.

Details

Geometry

The geometry of the module has been designedto favor the stackability, thereby reducingthe overall dimensions even during transport. The flaring of the modules also serves toconcentrate load inward avoidingups and unwanted as a support for books.

The product has been designed so as to betotally screwless. The stands are supportedat the base above the pins and remain inposition by gravity. The shelves fit into“channels” created by rods, which span theaxis linking him. Each part of the shelvescan be used. The modules havedimensions studied adequately to allow theinsertion of a variety of objects inside.

1.1kiTchenCompact kitchen

Team Project.

Description

Concept

The brief of the progect was to design a kitchen that could fit in a not very big spaces maintening all the function of a normal sized kitchen. So we then started our brainstorming and resarch on what already existed. Thinking about our kitchen concept adhering to the brief, we decided first of all to ensure that the kitchen area and the lounge room should somehow interact with each other, so we started from the fact that the kitchen should be off grid. Hence our first proposal at the conceptual level is the one below.

The design concept is a small kitchen withincorporated a dining table and a sink latchmade of silicone material. It is a kitchenstudied for single people, young couple or aworker, i.e. people that don’t cook often, butwhen they want have got everythingessential to do it.

Perspective

From concept we then passed to the actual project and focused on details in terms of form and function.Being a kitchen which stands at the center of the room,it is designed to ensure that the kitchen could beseen only at times of use and may disappear soon after; so the decision was to make a cock up and downwith a concrete top that can cover the entire area( cook-top-sink-support area.)
