So there’s something called handbag etiquette. It’s new to me too so ill explain...My interpretation, Handbag eti-quette is an overall view of what you can, can’t and really shouldn’t say about a handbag.Every handbag we buy or use, becomes our own private world, we carry everything to meet all possible emergencies. From hair brushes to phone charges and quite possi-bly even a step ladder or two, women are renowned for a “Marry Popping’s bag”.Everyone has different feel-ings, uses or needs for a bag. A mother caries tissues, bottles of juice, a little girls purse, or her sons dinosaur, whereas a student, has scissors, pens, glue, fabric, books, the list goes on. With so many uses for just one object, it’s no wonder there are so many styles, shapes, colours, fab-rics and makes, to fit our needs. After lending a bag to a friend I began to wonder, what hap-pens if the bags damaged. Because I’d offered her the bag, does it then mean it’s my problem, or vice versa?Would her asking to borrow the bag change the situation to?

Handbags At The Crack OfDawn

I was intrigued to find out other peoples views on this topic so I set up a facebook group, for people to express their views and opinions. I wanted to know 5 main things;1. Should your handbag be a major part of your outfit?2. Should you limit yourself to how many handbags you can have?3. Is it acceptable to go out and buy the same handbag as your friend..The very next day?4. Who’s responsibil-ity is it when a handbag is lent or borrowed to someone?5. Is it ok to tell a friend that their gorgeous Mulber-ry handbag is in fact a fake?

What I then found was quite in-triguing, the people who I pre-sumed would be honest and pretty much down right rude, said they wouldn’t tell some-one their bag was a fake! Lisa - ” I would never criti-cise a friends bag, I just wouldn’t get excited that way”But others would simply love the chance to humiliate you...Laura C – “I would say it’s per-fectly acceptable to comment/criticise/tell them it’s a fake/ ask how much if its your friend....oth-erwise I jus don’t pay attention!”

So it sounds like it’s a dog eat dog world really, mostly every-one will agree to disagree on how things should and can be done. We all approach situa-tions differently, which create some excitement, and challenge.I digress... I shall begin with the first point should your handbag be a major part of your outfit?A girl who pays attention to the details of her accesso-ries is a girl who is well put to-gether in general. She’s a girl who can triple the impact of her outfit with just the right bag extending from her hand. This is where the colour, size and material come into pay. In or-der for your handbag to do the talking you need to be bang on trend. As we move through sea-sons all the above will change. As I’ve already mentioned, it’s not necessarily the aesthetics that matter it’s the practicali-ties of the bag in its self that matters I think this point, is one that can sway either way. No one can dictate to someone what bag they should have; this is part of our own individual style. Is it acceptable to go out and buy the same handbag as your friend..the very next day, the simple answer to that it no

Page 9: Portfiolio

Simple answer Don’t!If you were to buy a beauti-ful Chanel handbag from eBay, you’d be careful to choose someone who is trust worthy and shows you the item is genuine. So how would you feel if your friend told you that it was in fact a fake? Annoyed, humili-ated, upset....all possible really. I can’t say I’ve ever had the privi-lege of being able to buy a nice handbag, but if someone were to criticise my purchase...plain rude!Chloe – “I don’t think I would ever tell someone their bag was fake, I would probably be wrong...except if it was a horrible Gu-cci or LV bag which u can just tell straight away but in that case I think the person already knows...you would have thought”Inevitably there will al-ways be one though!

Here are a few know how rules just for you on handbag eti-quette. 1. Always draw attention to yourself through your handbag. 2. Always buy as many handbags as you want. 3. Don’t purchase the same handbag as your friend, even if you think its the most gorgeous handbag ever! 4. Understand that when a friend borrows a handbag it’s THIER responsibility for damage or theft!5. And as for the biggest faux pas of them all, try not to comment on a friends “fake” handbag, you’ll devastate them.

There all pretty basic rules, there just a guide if you ever need them. Just remember when car-ried correctly your handbag will enhance and improve your ap-pearanceA great handbag is a true com-panion..

.Not only are you being unoriginal, it’s simply pathetic, that your una-ble to be creative enough to come up with your own individual style. We come back to my original point, who’s responsibility is it when a handbag is leant or bor-rowed to someone? I personally, feel there’s an under lying rule when someone borrows some-thing, it’s in their possession and if anything happens to it is their responsibility. This question cre-ated some creative comments;Abby – “ I borrowed a bag from a friend once for a night out. I got absolutely wasted and ended up loosing the bag! I didn’t men-tion anything to my friend, un-til she asked for the bag back about two weeks down the line...I denied ever having the bag!”If we feel so guilty for borrow-ing something and damaging it, then the simple question is why do we do it in the first place!?
