Well another issue is here and I wanted to start it o by saying Happy Birthday to A ModellersParadise!. o who? I hear you asking. Well the name may not mean much to most people but that wasthe name o the group that I started on 18th April 2005 in a dark corner o eBay. Tat group over theyears has changed and grown into a little place called Wamp; hopeully youve heard o that one!!Lies ull o seemingly small decisions that can shape our uture in bigger ways than we imagine.Tis was certainly one o those! I had recently got into miniature painting trying to sell some (withhindsight awul!) painted minis to earn a little extra cash. At the same time eBay introduced eBaygroups a very basic orum set up to say the least (no sections just a list o threads and that was aboutit). I joined a modelling based group but ater a ew weeks it started dying o. Another membersuggested I start my own group (as I was the most active o this one) and so I did, leading to thecheesily titles A Modellers Paradise (I have no idea where that name came rom!!) But name asidethe group was setup and we started to gain members. It was a pretty small group a ew times there

were maybe 3 or 4 o us posting in any one week and I oten considered closing the group down butmy own stubbornness at not ailing kept it going. People like alonicus, Lizcam, Eldintux, RogerB,Matty1101, and Vern were all there in the early days and we started to grow a little. Te monthlycontest started and we still run them today.

We spent about 4 years on eBay beore fnally getting our own site and a new name that derived romone we adopted on EBay. We had renamed the group Wargaming and Miniatures Paradise and romthis we got the acronym W.A.M.P which we are all amiliar with today (though it changed slightly to

Wargames and Miniature Painting). And thus Wamp as we know it today was born.A Year was spent on the new site beore moving on again to even more spanky sotware and thatswhere we reside still today. We have so much more these days than we did back then. Tings like theWamp Ladder, Gallery, Sponsored contests, charity drives and o course Portal magazine as well as theupcoming WAMP2011 event. Most importantly (to me anyway) is we are starting to gain recognitionas an important presence within the hobby. Tere are plenty o other sites that people see as moreashionable than us, places like CMON, PB or Chest o Colours, indeed Wamps oten the unpopular

kid in the corner but hell we do plenty or this hobby. We have the Wamp Ladder the frst rankingsbased ormat o its type. Little Angels probably at the time the biggest miniature painting contest the

world had seen in terms o prizes and categories. We hold more contests than any other site (at least 2per month) or both prizes and just un. We have this very magazine; the No1 ree monthly magazinededicated to Miniature painting. We have the Minipainting Wiki another frst. Wamp has doneplenty and it continues to punch above its weight and do more or Miniature painting as a communitythan many other sites will ever do. Te uture is bright too. We have more things coming up and we

will continue to try and be innovative and creative with what a site can oer this hobby we love somuch.

We also have something else that is always commented on by new people and our most proudachievement. Its something that was orged 6 years ago between a ew like minded people a riendlyand supportive community. Wamp really is the riendly Mini painting site and thats something special.Hope you enjoy this issue and i your attending Salute I wish you the best o luck. Heres hoping

Wamp can once again do well and win another Best In Show there.

reST... by STevebWith things as they are I have decidedthat Eolith Miniatures will be restingsoon. I started Eolith mainly toproduce resin 54mm antasy gures, amarketplace that was emerging quitenicely a couple o years back but onethat didnt really endure. The bottom hassomewhat allen out o its marketplaceand larger companies than I havestopped placing much investment in thescale. For mysel I noticed that every54mm piece I put out sold worse than

the last until we meet my last release,Dracula and the kind o sales that makeyou want to hold your chest and pray oranother breath...

Ive let it a while to see how thecatalogue went with ongoing sales. Inthe last ew months sales have not evenbeen modest. Beyond selling a verysmall number o resin zombie packsthis year Eolith has sold very little. Iknow there hasnt been much in the wayo release but the sales were droppingdramatically way beore then and it hadreached a point where sculpting a gurehad to be something I wanted to do orpleasure as they were never going topay me a wage.

Theres a little stock let in the cupboardso anything youre ater you should pickup quickly. Ive already removed guresthat have run out rom the online store.

    Wamp Review: Maxmini AA Turret

MaxMini have been producingaccessories or a while but recentlyhave started moving into ull pieces. The AA Turret orms part o their newrange o Heavy Weapons.

The Turret comes in 10 pieces and iscast in resin, a really solid one at that. The casting is superb, very sharpdetailing and very little fashing. Therewere a ew bubbles on the edge o thebase piece but this seemed to be castin a dierent resin to the rest so may

be a one o. The pieces are solid - themain body especially is one solid lump.

With the weapon arms being separateit allows or them to be rotated into aposition o your choosing. The wholething mounts to the platorm but hasbeen designed to be compatible withvehicles rom other companies rangesallowing plenty o scope or using theturret in other ways.

Assembly is straightorward with piecespossessing a round nub or hole and

the limited mould lines means its a veryquick process.

Price wise the Turret is 27 whichglance may seem expensive tobut your getting a lot o resin price and so I would say value isaverage.

Overall its a well made piecoers something a little dierent compatibility with 28mm scale veand miniatures means it oers ascope o opportunities both on ior as part o a larger piece.

I your looking or this type o syou need not look past this.

Quality: 9.5/10- Excellent casting, verylittle fashing or mould lines.

    Hi!

This is my first step by

step guide. Sorry for anylanguage mistakes - my

    English is far from good.

    Heres on WAMP many good

painters, so I decided to make

    a guide with most difficult

    techniques, I think itll be

more useful. As you know I

was a NMM adept for some

years but now I trying to paintrealistic minis with metallics.

I take Belegast the bloodthirsty rom Red Box Games - antamini! I like the brutality o this character, he reminds me o DruCelts (my avourite minis rom Rackham). Why this mini? Well, it h

a lot o details - metal, ur, wood, bones etc. So this is great baseshow how I paint all this parts.

To be honest I must say that it isnt true step-by-stepguide. I paint all parts in the same time. Why? I havea lot o ideas so i preer to realize them instantly.

    whatweNeedtopaiNtaMiNi

Brushes: rom 3 to 00 (I work only with kolinsky brushes.)Paints: Vallejo, Black, Carmine Red, Turquoise, SunnySkintone, Light Grey, Middlestone, Yellow Ochre, White,Vermillion, Copper. Rackham: Dirty Leather, Beastly FleshGW: Catachan green, Chestnut ink, Black ink, Red ink,Boltgun metal, Chainmail. Gamma (Russian company):Bronze. Most o proportions was made on the eye.

    well, letsbegiN!

I prepared and primed mini. I use black primer, not goodchoice, but only which I nd in stores. Grey primer is morepreerred.Oh! Sorry or photos, I bought a new camera so allpictures rom second stage is much better than rst one, butstill a bit dierent rom each other.

This is a nice, high quality kit tharequire some work to assembleprice may be in line or Warmaplayers, but its a pricey purchayoure just a collector. These boast good design and oer a canvas or painting.

The Dawnguard Destors are a heavycalvary unit that are part o PrivateerPress most recent release. Theyrea earsome looking group o steel-encased knights riding heavily armoredsteeds. The box is a multi-part metal kitthat makes 5 mounted knights.

The casting quality is very good- the

pieces are all very clean with minimalmold lines and a ew very small gatetags. The details are very crisp and Icant nd even a hint o slag, a castingdeect that plague some manuacturers.

The knights are rather easy to assemble-the arm joints t snugly in the body andyou dont have to worry about gap llingbecause the joints are covered by verylarge pauldrons. I did have some troubleguring out how to properly attach themuntil I stared at the box artwork or acouple o minutes and realized thatthe ones with lagree go over the letshoulder. I would highly recommendpinning the arm with the lance-cannonbecause o their weight. All o the lance-cannons had some bending to them, some worse than others, and I believethis is due to the vast amount o roomthey can bounce around in the largeclamshell cases. The knights also tperectly into their saddles.

With how easy the knights areshame that the horses are so to assemble. Their bodies aapart lengthwise. Four o the sethe same, but the captains hodierent- you can tell which onbecause that horse has a tail on twith the saddle. The two halvest together easily, so expect to

a good amount o time ling anlling to get these mounts togeththis is the most challenging partwhole process. The heads and qare easy to attach once you cothe bodies.

One o the newest miniatures released

by Privateer Press is the Fane KnightSkeryth Issyen, who is being releasedas a part o their Retribution o Scyrah. This multi-part white metal kit contains2 dierent versions o the character, 1mounted on a heavily armored horse, and the other on oot.

The horse comes in 3 pieces, 2 halveso the body and the head,, plus theknights body, head, and lance. Thestanding version consists o body, head, and hands gripping the lance. A 50mm

and 30mm slotta base are included. The casts are clean with very ewmold lines and the details are crispand clean. The standing knight can beassembled easily with very little prepwork. The mounted knight, however, isa completely dierent issue.

The halves o the horses body t

together very roughly, it will take a air

amount o ling and a little putty workto get them to t cleanly. The head tsin place easier, but still requires a airamount o gap lling. The knights torsois a little akward to place, I would highlysuggest pinning it in place- and it alsorequires some putty work to ll a smallgap along his spine. The head andlance arm t into place easily, but as Imentioned the lance itsel was bent outo shape.

It seems a lot o the stu on the stands and the cabinets arestill work in progress and design team were very reluctant tocommit to release dates despite things going to production(also would tell what these are either) and some things thatwere work in progress 3 years ago (that lovely dragon) arestill work in progress now...

The book templates that they had on the table looked very

nice but this is also still work in progress although they arehoping that this will be a July release (he wouldnt say whichJuly) which means it would need to be with the printersat least 8 weeks beore this date. With newsletters beingalternative weeks with Forgeworld newsletters it will beinteresting to see how the releases pan out.

Besides the Chaos Dwar engines/machines that were seenat GD UK in September last year there were some very niceChaos Dwar Inernal Guard and it is nice to see that in the

main the Chaos Dwars arent being sculpted with thosridiculous stupid tall hats. There was also a painted veo the Dreadquake Mortar and a ew o the Chaos DwSmiths as well as Tamurkhan on the Dragon Toad whiwould lead me to believe that it wont be long beore wthese or sale (ngers crossed).

Amongst the other cabinets on the WF design team tawas a Great Taurus which looked very nice with the deteam having a cow rom a armyard set on the table wpair o demon wings blue-tacd to it and trying to convpeople it was the original prototype...Manaans Blades

    Tabris:

Hello ellow wampers. Here in SouthAmerica commercial basing materialsare hard to nd and like most stu inthis hobby i have to import it. It will takesome good time beore i can get myhands on some basing supplies so iwould like to get some suggestions onwhat readily available materials i canuse to base my minis.

I have the luck o having lots o treesand plants where i live, no grovesor other big green areas but at leastplaces where i can nd plants andsmall stones to use. Im aware oDarklords tutorial on the subject ousing natural plants on the bases andwill sure try that. I also have someplastic plants rom a aquarium store.

Right now i use a kind o aquariumsand (in a rough translation: nebeach sand) on my bases and paintover it, but i nd the grains too big orusing in the whole base and in theend they give the impression that themini is standing in a lot o very smallpebbles and rocks. I think its ok ora low tabletop standard but i want toimprove my basing.

So, what do you guys recommend?

Shane Rozzell:For sand I use what was called at our local pet shopChinchilla sand which translates as the nest grade sandthey could get. Thankully it pretty small grains so looks OKon miniatures. I you cant get hold o any o this then Vallejodo a sand paste and a pumice stone paste you mind nduseul. As or oliage i you can mail order any lea stock thengo native, you live in a great area so just keep looking, donttry to emulate what we can nd locally use what you have.Im sure in a ew weeks well all be looking at your bases andwondering what you used and can we get it here

Iacton:Vallejo sandy paste is great. I you mix in some normal sandand static grass, you get superb textured mud too.

Have you tried ground spices? Several spices are nicelyground, and make your mini smell nice too! lol

KittenCeleste:I took a walk in the neighbourhood and surrounding woods.

Found sand, pebbles, roots, leaves (dry and smash them up,you get reat oliage or bases).

Old technical things can be used or basing. Like remotecontrols, old cameras, mobile phones, etc. They all have bitsinside that can be stuck on a base.

Bottle caps, wine corks, beads, bits o wire.. Thats all I canthink o at the mo :D

    Happy hunting!

Cregan Tur:Construction oam board can be used or a number o things-I think Hinton showed how to make a brick wall with the stuin one o WAMPs rst tutorial articles. Compressed corkboard is great or making rocks and the like. I you check you

DLs tutorial on preserving fowers then almost anything inyour backyard can be used or basing.

Another great material is to pick up rocks rom peoples graveldriveways. You can use cutting pliers to cut them into smallerpieces to create small rocks or your bases.

For wires or industrial bases Ive cut up and used old speakercables, the cable rom an old USB device, phone cord... thepossibilities are really endless. I you can look at anythingand imagine a way to use it, then youve ound a new basingmaterial.

Captain Sprout:I you collect some natural roots and twigs etc try boibeore you use them it helps gr im stu growing on thegoing a bit odd.

pae:Tree bark makes really nice rocks, especially i its heatextured like the bark o pine trees.

I need to nd some good roots that I can make trees Problem with living on the prairie is that there arent alot o decent plants to dig up. :-/

    PaiNTiNg ScrOllS

    Darklord:

Anyone got any advice on painting

those scrolls/seals you get on spacemarines? I mean the actual text - I justend up with a bar code!!

War Grion:Given their size could you not just put wavey lines ratherthan straight vertical ones to avoid them becoming barcode?

    RogerB:Dont use pure black.

JoeK:I you look at old medieval books, you always see the rstletter given lots o lavish attention - dierent colours andvery big. Obviously Im not going to be buggering up myeyes doing all that with a 28mm gure, but I do tend to addthe small red square (or something like that) at the start - orsomewhere along the line - to make it stand out a bit.

Chameleon:Mix a bit o the basecolour o the scroll in with black (orscorched brown i you would preer), thin it down to about50:50 with water, add a touch o fow improver and the jobshould be a goodun :-)

Edit-joes post is also a good idea- its something Ivstarted doing too (although I tend to just use the sa

colour, but make an obvious letter) - it seems to wotreat :)

waghorn41:Well, along similar lines to Joeks I tend to do a splasquiggle/letter about three times the size o the linewhich are then indicated by lines/dots and more sqin as ne a line as I can get (believe me, its diiculhal inch brush but easie r than the rst letter in coloa roller)
