The Santa Catarina River—dry most of the year on the sur-face but with flowing underground water— its a landmark for the city. It bisects Monterrey from East to West, thus separating the city into north and south halves. Every 10 year aproximately carries a large amount of water because of hurricanes or rainstorms in the city.

expo monterrey
Using Voronoi´s Theory for the distribution of the areas in the expo. This theory breaks down spaces based on the natural features of the site resulting in a grid that projects the nature of this space. Searching for the interpretation and natural manifestation of the river based on the topo-graphy and hydrology of the site. To create a grid that will use the characteristics of natural phenomenon.
Location of important points on the map according to drastic changes in topography, irregular topography and bonding patterns of hydrology.
Creation of triangles connecting the closest points, which follow the axis which is directed towards the ground, turning them into corners.
Creation of triangles connecting the closest points, which follow the axis which is directed towards the ground, turning them into corners.
Centers from three lines are drawn perpendicular to each edge of the triangle and thus are joining the stron-gest areas of the triangles forming a grid pattern de!ned by a natural terrain.

Designin a pavillion for Egypt in the Expo monterrey, having a hall at the intervention area (Santa Catarina River) were the international expo was going to take place. This Pavillion was required to be design inside the topography of the site. Considering the conditions of the environment, the site, the materials and the atraction of this pavillion.
pavillion basic concepts
EGIPTIAN ARCHITECTURETraditional form, rectangular prismknown as an icon of this culture.
MATERIALSTraditionally used stonelimestone, black granite and basalt.
CONSTRUCTIVE METHODBlocks of stone to support thestaircase-like structure.
WATER INFLUENCEThe Nile represented fertilityand high agricultural productivity.
STRUCTURAL SKELETONUsing traditional working systemand providing spacing between blocks.
TREATMENTThe volumetric shape contributes to thechanneling of water during rains.
MATERIALSSelection of limestone andgranite for its richness in the area.
The open front allows for betterventilation by opening spaces betweenthe blocks.
ARCHITECTURE PROPOSALTriangular prism that aims to adaptto topographic conditions.
OPEN FRONTS VENTILATIONWorking with a spacing between thestone blocks we !lter the light andprovide thermal comfort to the space.
LIGHTNINGThe spacing on the wallsallows the passage of natural light.
PATHFollowing the tradcional system ofpyramids generates a route from thetop to the lowest level.
The Santa Catarina River—where the expo will be develo-ped. Different halls were asigned for a diversity of places around the worl. Egypt had their own hall for their contri-bution to the expo.
