Operatng procedures vary wdely for the many dfferent types of jobs on whch the VCM-200 s used. For ths reason, no typcal operatng procedure s gven, but the followng general suggestons may be helpful.

a. Directional control

A unque feature of the VCM-200 s the ease of operaton n ether drecton, forward or reverse. Dual speed adjustment and clutch engagement controls are convenently located on each end of the machne. Machne drecton s set by the FWD-OFF-REV toggle swtch located next to the power cord.

B. Speed control

Set cuttng speeds for straght lne cuts drectly on the speed ndcator located on top of the VCM-200 and the VCM-200HS. The speed range s nfintely varable from 1 pm (nch per mnute) to 60 pm (VCM-200/VCM-200HT) or 5 pm to 120 pm (VCM-200HS). Turn the large knob on ether end of the machne to poston the speed ndcator to the desred cuttng speed. Determne the speed settngs for crcle cuts wth the formula gven on Page 12.

NOTEUse the export (E) models of the VCM-200 Series with either 50 Hz or 60 Hz, 220 VAC power. When used with 50 Hz power, the actual speed is approximately 12% less than the indicated speed.

c. clutch operation

Engage the clutch by rotatng one of the two clutch levers, located on ether end of the machne, to the DRIVE poston.

Machne Operaton

4-10

Safety and Operating inStructiOnS

0056-1351

Place the clutch lever n the FREE poston to permt easy manual postonng of the machne pror to or after the actual cuttng operaton.

D. torch adjustment

The VCM-200 rackng assembly provdes full adjustment for the torch. The rack handle assembly permts the torch holder assembly movement toward or away from the tractor unt. The torch holder allows the torch vertcal postonng. The torch pvot knuckle allows the torch postonng at any angle from ± 90° n a plane perpendcular to the track. If addtonal torch clearance s needed, rotate the torch holder assembly 180˚ for an addtonal clearance of 2 nches. After adjustng the torch to the desred poston, tghten all clampng screws to prevent the torch from makng any unexpected movements.

e. Straight line cutting

WARNINGThe VCM-200 is not designed to detect the end of its track or workpiece. Be sure an unattended machine does not fall from an elevated workpiece.

Cut straght lnes usng the followng procedure:

1. Place the machne track on the work and lne t up before placng the machne on the track.

track accessory Information

The radus rod and center pont make t possble for the VCM-200/VCM-200HS to cut crcles from 4" to 96" n dameter. Remove the two bolts located over the drve wheels n the outer case. Poston the radus rod assembly on the cuttng machne, re-nsert the bolts and tghten securely. Adjust the radus rod assembly to the desred length.

Drll a small plot hole or punch the center of the crcle to be cut. Place the pont of the center pont n the center of the crcle and adjust the radus rod so that the cuttng torch can be properly postoned. Poston the torch between the machne and the center pont for small dameter crcles. Poston the machne between the torch and the center pont for large dameter crcles. Adjust the center pont so that the nsde drvng wheel lfts slghtly off the work. Loosen the caster wheel lock knobs so that the caster wheels pvot freely. The machne s now free to follow the desred radus.

NOTEReadjust the cutting torch to its proper cutting position after making the adjustment to lift the inside driving wheel.

Cuttng speeds for crcle cuts are not set drectly on the VCM-200 speed ndcator. The ndcator shows the speed of the drve wheel. The drve wheel moves along the crcumference of a larger or smaller crcle than the one beng cut by the cuttng torch. The followng formula provdes a

Followng the nspecton and troubleshootng procedures are the mantenance procedures necessary for mantanng the machne. These sectons are desgned to provde an understandng of the components nvolved and to supply addtonal mantenance nformaton whch cannot be noted n detal n the Troubleshootng Chart.

5.01 RoutINe INSPectIoN

Inspect the machne carefully each day before placng t n operaton. Vsually nspect the machne and perform the followng steps, whch nclude operatng checks of all machne components. If faults or malfunctons are noted whle performng these procedures, refer to the Troubleshootng Chart on Page 15. and the followng mantenance procedures for the components nvolved.

1. Wpe off all parts of the machne, rack, torch and all track surfaces.

2. Turn the clutch control lever to the FREE poston. Check to see that the machne can be easly pushed along the track.

3. Set the FWD-OFF-REV toggle swtch to the OFF poston. Turn the SPEED knob to 1 pm. Plug the power cord nto a 115 V, 60 Hz power outlet.

NOTEThe export (E) model of the VCM-200 Series is equipped with a step-down transformer which permits operation with 220 VAC, 50 Hz (or 60 Hz) power.

4. Set the FWD-OFF-REV toggle swtch to the FWD poston. Wth the clutch lever stll n the FREE poston, slowly advance the SPEED knob to 60 pm (VCM-200) or 120 pm (VCM-200HS). The sound level should ncrease as the knob s advanced. Return the FWD-OFF-REV toggle swtch to the OFF poston.

5. Set the clutch lever to the DRIVE poston and set the FWD-OFF-REV swtch to FWD. If the clutch engagng mechansm s properly adjusted, the machne should move along the track at the selected speed. Move the FWD-OFF-REV toggle swtch to the REV poston and verfy that the machne reverses drecton.

6. Check to see that the torch (or torches) can be moved up and down wth the adjustng knob(s) and that the torch holder clampng screws are tght enough to mantan the
