MADA Global Speaker Seminar: New trends in ATs

Page 2: Portable and pervasive technologies: opportunities for pwd

• 15% of the total EU population having disabilities (i.e. about

74 million individuals)

• Inclusive ICT and ATs are essential for enabling full

participation in society

• ATs mitigate barriers many people face in their daily life

environments.

• The potential beneficiaries of eAccessibility are not only

people with strictly defined disabilities.

The Socio-economic problem

ATs as solutions for everyone, anytime and anywhere

• People dealing with situational constraints (e.g. lighting conditions)

• Tourists or immigrants who do not understand the local language.

• People who are not familiar with ICT.

Traits of the European AT market

• Fragmentation caused by different national systems, methods of financing, and availability of products.

• Impossibility of AT companies to tackle all the value chain.

• Fast changing technology trends implies continuous adaption

• Non available information for final users

• Additional costs to develop solutions for different national markets.

The future AT ecosystem

Page 10: Portable and pervasive technologies: opportunities for pwd

A new AT ecosystem is possible

• Vertical AT companies are concentrated on survival due to market barriers. Diversification of AT industry

• Mainstream technologies evolve rapidly. Personalisaton of interfaces

• Delivery is a key constraint. Cloud computing an ubiquitous ATs are the solution.

• Disperse knowledge. International awareness activities and coordinated networks for interchange of good practices.
