How do I get to the Cellar?

  • PORT LINCOLN CELLAR FOLK CLUB | Issue 110 AUGUST 2018 3

Cellar Snippets – from the President

A stroll along Rundle Mall last Monday gave me time to reflect on music and its importance. In the short space of some 50 metres I came across 3 buskers, the first a singer and multi-instrumentalist including didge and guitar, further along a singer guitarist. Both of these were plugged in creating a bigger sound attracting more listeners.

Then I started hearing a drummer. As I got closer I could see he was drumming with a pair of drum sticks but his drum kit consisted of only a shoe box and a tin. This didn't stop him from drumming up a tune though. Isn't it marvelous that musicians can get out there and do their stuff. They enjoy what they do as well as giving enjoyment to others. I'm sure this is the same the world over.

The Cellar Folk Club provides a great venue and atmosphere for musicians, singers, comedians,

story tellers, poets and so on while at the same time giving the audience a wonderful night out. We've been doing this for 24 years now. What a great effort that is. Well done.

Those 24 years have seen hundreds of performances and thousands of audience members.

Congratulations to everyone who has contributed to help make the Cellar Folk Club the great club it is.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY Cellar Folk Club.

    See you at the Cellar,

    If you’re around Wilmington …

For those who may be up that way there are some musos in Wilmington who are becoming more active and welcome visits from others. They held their first bushdance at the end of June and Linda did the dance calling for them.

The name of their bushband is Windmill Grass and they did a great job as it was the first time they had played celtic music. There were over 60 people in the hall for the event which included supper and the people were all keen to learn to dance.

Contact is Gary Wright 0427188099 [email protected]

While Linda was in Adelaide she called in at the Friday night celtic session at the Gov and was pleased to see John (the fiddler) Watson there. He had his guitar and Linda her whistle, so they were able to join in with the tunes and had a good time.

    60th Wedding Anniversary Congratulations!

    To Tony and Pip

A wonderful life achievement for a couple.

Tony and Pip are long term members and supporters of our Cellar Folk Club. They frequently came to Emu sessions when they were held at Roseview Gardens. They popped into the July Emus and celebrated with a family dinner at The Wheatsheaf Hotel.
