WHERE CAN I SHOP NOW? When I was ready to check out and pay for my groceries the cashier said, "Strip down, facing me.” making a mental note so I could complain to my local member of parliament about this running amok security rubbish, I did just as she had instructed. After the shrieking and hysterical remarks finally subsided, I found out that she was referring to how I should position my credit card. Nonetheless, I've been asked to shop elsewhere in the future. They need to make their instructions a little clearer for seniors.

Right way to Heaven A little boy was waiting for his mother to come out of Morrisons Store. As he waited, he was approached by a man who asked, "Son, can you tell me where the Post Office is?" The little boy replied, "Sure! Just go straight down this street and at the end turn to your right." The man thanked the boy kindly and said, "I'm the new minister in town. I'd like for you to come to church on Sunday. I'll show you how to get To Heaven." The little boy replied with a chuckle. "Awww, come on... You don't even know the way to the Post Office."

A young woman, with a baby in her arms, entered a butcher shop and confronted the butcher with the news that the baby was his and asked what he was going to do about it? He said he'd offer to provide her with free meat until the boy was 16. She agreed. The butcher had been counting the years off on his calendar, and one day the teenager who had been collecting the meat each week, came into the shop and said, "I'll be 16 tomorrow." "I know," said the butcher with a smile, "I've been counting too, tell your mother, when you take this parcel of meat home, that it is the last free meat she'll get, and watch the expression on her face." When the boy arrived home he told his mother. The woman nodded and said, "Son, go back to the butcher and tell him I have also had free bread, free milk, and free groceries for the last 16 years and watch the expression on his face!!..

PROGRESS NEWS The Port Albert Progress Association meets on the 3rd Tuesday of every month, 7pm @ Port Albert CFA Meeting rooms. All are welcome to come along and meet other interested persons in the community. Membership is $5.00, which ensures that you are kept up to date with minutes and free entry to Movie Nights. The October 21st meeting is the AGM. All persons interested in standing in Executive Positions or General Committee positions are encouraged to attend. The Port Albert Progress Association is passionate about the Port Albert community and the town. New faces are always welcome. Come along and support the Community that supports You!

Movie Night Next Movie Night is proposed for Saturday, 18th October 2014 at 7.30pm. The September movie night had a great turnout for “The Book Thief” although it was admitted that tissues should have been on offer! Thanks are offered to all who have supported these nights and to those volunteers who made the night possible.

Grant Success

The Port Albert Hall Committee was very pleased to discover that the Wellington Shire granted their application of $2,000 toward new blinds for the Hall windows. This is a great step forward, allowing the hall to be darkened for the kids disco’s and planned movie matinees. It is hoped these will commence soon. Stay tuned!

Emergency Evacuation Meeting Port Progress will be attending a meeting being with the Wellington Shire to address emergency evacuation issues that were raised after the Jack River fire in February. It is hoped that some positive steps will be taken for the Port Albert community especially leading into this year’s forthcoming summer. All residents are asked to be mindful of their fire plans and preparation leading into this years fire season. Hard waste Rubbish Collection Progress is endeavouring to have future Hard Waste Collection dates changed in Port Albert. It coincides with the Snapperfest each year and residents feel it is not presenting the township in its best light over this time.

Port Albert Market

The Port Albert Market has been running this year on the 4th Sunday of the month. Exceptions to these dates are where Port Albert Events are held. For this market to be successful it is dependant on visitation and support by all community members. Stallholders are still needed. If you are able to help out and hold a stall then we would love to hear from you. Buskers and local community groups interested in running a stall are also being sought. Please call Gayle on 0437247242 or Ulla on 0431734 236 for further enquiries.

BIG BUOYS! A change over and replacement of the Port Albert Entrance buoys recently occurred with the old ones going for repainting. One of the Entrance Buoys was moved a short distance as the Channel had moved and deepened slightly. These photos were captured by Graeme Ireland who was lucky enough to see the buoys loaded onto a truck for transport. If you have any great pics or stories such as this, please send them into us at [email protected]. We would love to share them.

WHISKEY & WILDFISH SUCCESS! The newly formed ‘Friends of St John’s’ hosted their first fundraiser at the Port Albert Community Hall. Forty guests enjoyed an exciting four course menu prepared by Wildfish chef Vito Sechi matched to single malt whiskies presented by Julian White owner of Whiskey + Alement in Melbourne. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the event that added something new, to the Port Albert community and specifically was to raise much needed funds for the restoration of St John’s Port Albert. St John’s in Raglan Street is now the only church left in Port Albert. The Friends of St John’s would like to thank artist Warren Curry for his hand coloured print of Wharf St Port Albert and local businesses, Rodondo, Port Albert Wine Bar and Café and Radiant Health Massage for their raffle donations. The huge success of the raffle will enable work on window restoration to commence shortly. The Reverend Jo White conducts services at St John’s on the first and third Sunday of each month at 10.30am. Everyone is Welcome.

ALLIES MOVING FORWARD The DWWWW Football Club recently held their AGM. After being in recess for the 2014 year, the newly elected Committee is looking forward to working hard and the challenge of recommencing in 2015. Outgoing President, Murray Farley congratulated Doug at the

AGM on election. Doug thanked the Farley family for their years of dedication and loyalty to the Allies football Club, particularly Gary Farley for his 30 odd years of Club involvement that is hoped will continue. Gary continues to be a general member on the Committee. Election of new faces continued with Trevor Vardy Vice President, Fiona Cartwright Secretary and Rochelle Olarenshaw as Treasurer. The final season dinner was held on ‘Brownlow’ night, which saw a great turn out. 2015 looks very positive indeed!
