Coupled with nearly 1.5 million vulnerable Lebanese and over 313,000 Palestinian refugees, the total number of people in need within Lebanon has reached over 3 million. As of 5 January, the government has applied new regulations for the entry of Syrians into Lebanon. In light of the increased pressure and vulnerability felt by local Lebanese resulting from the protracted crisis in Syria, the IFRC and National Societies are focusing on a more holistic community-based approach to address needs and alleviate tensions between the refugee and host communities. The need for community-based humanitarian organisations with local access like the Lebanese Red Cross (LRC) and the Palestine Red Crescent in Lebanon (PRCS/L) has never been more pressing. These National Societies must be supported so they may continue to respond to increasing demands for its services.
