Population growth

A population is the number of people living in a territory

Natural growth: Is the difference between the birth rate and the death rate.

Migratory balance: Is the difference between the number of immigrants and the number of emigrants.

Real growth: Is the sum of natural growth and migratory balance.

Characteristics of a population

Gender distribution.

Age distribution.

Inhabitant origin.

Population density

Is the relationship between the size of a population and the area.

Population changes

In 1900 Spain had 18 million inhabitants today it has 46 million. Because: Natural growth Migratory balance

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE POPULATION IN SPAIN

There are slightly more women than men.

Young people under the age of 16 represents 17% of the population.

The age grou between the ages of 16 and 64 represents 66% of the population.

People over the age of 65 represent 17% of the population.

The immigrant population represents about 12%

ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES

Work and the active population

Is the group of people between 16 and 65 who can and are willing to work. Can be:

Employed Unemployed

Economic sectors

Primary sector: Workers obtain raw materials from nature.

Secondary sector: Workers transform these materials into finished products.

Tertiary sector: Workers provide services for other people.

Primary sector: 5% of the population work in.

Secondary sector: 30% of the population work in.
