• In the pop genre there are a few sub categories. For example:

• Bubblegum pop (Upbeat, contrived and marketed at pre-teens and teens)

• Pop rock (Catchy, light lyrics, guitar based)

• Dance pop (Up tempo, intended for clubs, developed from post-disco/synthpop)

• Country pop (Soft rock)

Typical Fans

• The typical fans of the pop genre is usually pre-teen and teens as many of the artists are mostly around the same age (16-22)

• However, for some sub genres the age of fans is slightly increased. For example for the dance pop genre the age would be around 18-24 due to the fact that this music would be played around in clubs.

Why did I choose pop?

• I chose to pick pop as the genre for my magazine because I am interested in this genre more than any of the other genres.

• Also I read a lot of interviews with pop stars so this will help me create a suitable magazine double page spread, cover and contents page.

• I will also be able to ask a lot of ‘pop’ fans about what they would like to see me do for my own magazine so this can help me create the best magazine I can make.
