Water$ave Range Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Water$ave Range?

Water$ave is a super absorbent polymer also known as a water retaining crystals.

They absorb & retain up to 200 - 300 times its own weight in water & nutrients.

Slowly releasing these to the root system when needed by the plant.

What is a Super Absorbent Polymer?

Super absorbent polymers are part of a group of acrylamide & Polyacrylamide polymers.

These are very long chain molecules. With super absorbent polymers the long chains are cross

linked to form a network or mesh structure. This mesh has the ability to absorb water into the

structure to swell as the water is absorbed.

Water$ave is added to the soil in such a way that it is in contact with the root structure.

During watering or irrigation, water is absorbed by Water$ave granules attached to the plant's

roots. The water is prevented from draining away & being lost.

Who should use Water$ave?

Anyone that has plants, trees, gardens, bushes, lawns, crops or any plant form that requires water

to survive.

What happens to Water$ave when it dries out?

Eventually the water will be used by the plants & Water$ave returns to its dry form.

Water$ave remains active in the soil for many years & the cycle of water absorption & release can

be repeated many times with only a slight loss in efficiency over time.

What happens when Water$ave degrades in the soil?

The effects of the UV light & bacteria in the soil gradually breaks Water$ave down to water, carbon

dioxide & nitrogen.

How long will Water$ave last for?

Water$ave in the soil will work for 3-7 years, absorbing water, nutrients & fertilizers & releasing

them as needed.

How much Water$ave do I use?

Generally, 2 teaspoons of Water$ave per plant will absorb 1litre of water, a little Water$ave will go

a long way.

We supply our Water$ave Range in various sizes from 140g jars to 20kg buckets or even 500kg &

Is Water$ave safe?

If ingested, the acids within the stomach will start to break down the hydrated gels and the water is

released into the stomach and the crystals are passed through.

Water$ave is safe to handle, non toxic & biodegradable.

Can I just put Water$ave on top of my garden or pot plants?

Yes, however Water$ave works best at the root zone of plants. This allows the roots to tap into the

hydrated Water$ave & draw water when needed.

Water$ave is UV sensitive it will start to break down & lose its effectiveness.

How To Apply Water$ave Plug & Seep Dam Sealant

If your dam has water in it & is currently leaking then now would be the best time to apply.

The pressure of the water leakage creates the suction needed to draw the hydrating polymers into

the problem areas & seal the leaks.

If you do not have any water in your dam yet. You can apply Water$ave Plug/Seep as your dam is

filling up after rain, this ensures a neat & even coverage.

If you know where the leak is then you can concentrate your application to that area. It is also

recommended that the rest of the dam be treated as well & this can be done when the dam is full

or is at least above the problem area.

Do not under apply.

Apply product at no less than the recommended rates.

For a fast leak.

Apply at 100gm/m2 . A fast leak is a noticeable reduction over

days & weeks.

For a slow leak.

Apply at 75gm/m2. A slow leak is a noticeable reduction over months.

Remove any deep silt, livestock & dense reeds. They impede the polymers ability to get to the outflows.

Just sprinkle over the surface of the water.

On a quiet day with no wind or rain & when the dam is not overflowing.

Distribute it as if you are 'feeding the chickens'. At the recommended rates.

Cast out gently no more than 1.5m. By hand or fertiliser spreader from a small boat.

Be careful not to separate the blend or go through the polymer while applying to the water surface.

A boat is recommended. To make sure that the application is spread evenly all over the dam

without separating the blend.

Allow 12 - 48 hrs. To hydrate, expand & sink towards the outflows.

Then allow 2 - 10 days. Depending on the rate of leak for the polymers to start incorporating into

the soil structures.

Water$ave Plantation Reduces the mortality rate caused by transplant stress, improves

Water$ave Hydro A specific blend of anionic cross-linked & lineal polymers to be

applied for hydroseeding or mulching operations in mountainous

areas or road embankments.

Highly effective in the young regrowth of trees, shrubs, bushes &

saplings to assist in revegetation & reforestation.

Water$ave Hydro-Tac Water$ave Hydro-Tac is a specific linear Polyacrylamide, called PAM.

Using PAM tackifiers is one best ways to hydroseed; retaining more

moisture in the mulch to keep it in place & prevents messy applications

without 'splashing'.

Water$ave Hydro-Tac is a 'stand alone' tackifier that does not

necessarily require mulch or additives.

Water$ave Plug & Seep Frequently Asked Questions How does it work?

Polymer Innovations Water$ave Plug Range works by applying the dry polymer blend to the water

surface of the water catchment area.

Once the polymers come in contact with the water it creates an invisible net that carries the polymers & any solids in the water downwards towards the leaks.

The different sized polymers then start expand up to 300 times it's size & head toward the voids, cracks & crevices where the water is leaking.

These polymers create a 'plug' & continue to expand filling all holes, cracks, crevices & porous soils over the coming days & weeks. The hydrated polymers then become a part of the soil structure for decades.

Water$ave Plug Range is a blend of lineal & cross linked polymers that are 99% insoluble, non toxic & biodegradable. It will not harm any plants or animals like fish, yabbies, your pets or livestock.

This polymer is known as a Polyacrylamide. A combination of two monomers, Acrylamide & Potassium Acrylate. It’s charge density & molecular weight can be controlled by the ratio of Acrylamide & Potassium Acrylate.

This allows us to customise its charge depending on the soil to be bonded. This is known as flocculation, where soil solids are bonded into 'flocs'.

Water$ave Plug locates the leak & seals it! Even if you don't know exactly where the leak is our polymers will locate the outflows.

Note: a combination of the two blends can be used in different parts of the dam with varying earthen &

soil structures. Can it be applied to dry dams or ponds?

No, because Water$ave Plug reacts with water you need to have at least 1m depth of water in your dam to treat it.

When should I treat the dam/pond?

If your dam has water in it & is currently leaking water then now would be the best time to apply Water$ave Plug.

I know where the leak is. Can I apply the Water$ave Plug to that area or do I have to treat the whole dam?

Yes, if you know where the leak is then you can concentrate your application to that area but it is also recommended that the rest of the dam be treated as well & this can be done when the dam is full or is at least above the problem area.

Can I apply it to a new dam that I am building?

Yes, Water$ave Plug has been designed to apply to new as well as already constructed dams by applying it to the base & walls of the dam depending on the location of the leak.

Yes, it is 100% safe to use in dams where livestock are present. Water$ave Plug is biodegradable,

non toxic & environmentally friendly.

If ingested, the acid in the stomach will start to break down the gels & the water is released into the stomach, the polymer beads are then passed through.

How much area does the 20kg pail treat?

A 20kg pail will treat 200m2 when applied at 100g/m2 for a fast leak. Or A 20kg pail will treat 267m2 when applied at 75g/m2 for a slow leak.

How much Water$ave Plug & Seep will I need?

A minimum of 100g per m2 for a fast leak or75g per m2 for a slow leak is needed.

Calculated on the surface area of your dam, depending on whether your dam is full or partially full.

I have tried liners & bentonite clay but my dam still leaks. Will it work better than bentonite?

Clients that have tried sealing their leaking dams with linings or bentonite without success have great results using Water$ave Plug.

Will my dam be sealed on first application? How many applications will I need?

In the vast majority of cases clients successfully seal their leaking dams on first application but in

some cases further application may be required.

These instances occur usually when rare, unforeseen circumstances have been encountered or there has been a lack of adequate information regarding the leak before hand.

How long will it take to work?

Allow 24 - 48 hrs to hydrate & sink towards the outflows.

Then allow 2 - 10 days depending on the rate of leak for the polymers to start incorporating into the soil structures. Some clients have had their dams sealed within a few days.

On average your dam should seal or notice a slowing down of water loss within 3-7 days! If your dam is still leaking after this time further applications could be necessary.

Will it work if my dam has weeds & livestock? Do I need to remove them first?

Weeds & livestock will inhibit the flow of the polymer into the soil.

The polymer needs a clear path to the soil, if you have any weeds, reeds, leaf, litter or deep slit, you will need to remove these before application.

Water$ave Plug & Seep is made up of different sized hydrating particles & they will be sucked into those areas.

How long will it last in the dam? Is it permanent?

Water$ave Plug under normal conditions will seal for decades. With ongoing trials we anticipate that this is a permanent solution to sealing leaks & ponds.

Does it work on all soil types?

Between the two Water$ave Plug & Seep blends, generally yes.

High levels of alkalinity, salinity or acidity may affect the product's performance however. In these rare cases the blend can be altered to suit your specific conditions.
