POLLUTION: A GLOBAL PROBLEMPOLLUTION: A GLOBAL PROBLEM

If we have a look at any ecosystem we could find multiple forms of contamination, streams full of toxic chemicals from industrial processes, rivers overloaded with nutrients from farms, trash blowing away from landfills and city skies covered in smog. Even landscapes that appear pristine can experience the effects of pollution sources located hundreds of thousands of miles away.

In order to understand pollution at global level students from Class 7 and 8 were exposed to the vast information regarding the global causes and effects of pollution. The project was launched through simple activities like slogan writing, poster making and Civic Movement. Gradually essay writing competition and banner preparation was followed. A seminar was conducted on the topic ‘Global pollution’ which updated the student’s knowledge.

A Quiz competition was conducted which helped the students to enrich their knowledge about global issues regarding pollution.

Students enjoyed presenting slide shows on ‘Acid rain and Green house effect’. “Vanamahotsava’ programme was celebrated where students not only planted few valuable plants in the school campus but also donated plants to the neighboring schools.

‘Ozone Day’ was celebrated by conducting a special assembly where students performed a small skit to understand the hazards of ODSs.

Students got an opportunity to go through a wide range of activities in which the students learnt, explored, designed, innovated and proudly exhibited their models, charts, banners, slogans etc. in the Science exhibition.

Various models like smoke filter, wind mill, solar boat, model of causes and effects of Air pollution in China and India were displayed and pamphlets regarding cleanliness were distributed to built up community awareness. Students shared their views on global aspects of pollution with the viewers Chief Guests and the foreign visitors who were highly impressed with their demonstrations.

It was a memorable experience where students learnt regional and global environmental problems. There was team spirit throughout which was well exhibited during the Eco-green Ganesha campaign, cleanliness drive and separation of bio-degradable and non-biodegradable pollutants. Students not only tried to understand the causes of pollution but also shared their views with the local people and distributed pamphlets in the community to spread awareness. It was great experience not only for the students but also for the staff of NRS.

To create an awakening in the young minds for preserving and conserving their natural environment and to make them more sensitive towards their surroundings ‘Earth week’ was celebrated in NRS. Various activities were organized such as preparing logos, creating posters, preparing charts, writing slogans and making banner (on the topic ‘save our earth’). Great stress was laid on the concept of 3R’s – Reduce, Recycle and Reuse and students were told to adopt them in everyday life.

POLLUTION: A GLOBAL PROBLEM

Nature is the epitome of beauty and bounteousness. But man is incessantly bent upon robbing nature of her bounteousness and in that process is polluting and degrading the environment as well as doing irreparable harm to himself. It is high time that man realize his follies or very soon another Venus or Mars will be created out of the earth. For creating global awareness on this burning issues, ‘World Environment Day’ was observed in NRS is a significant way. NRS has always taken the initiative in various projects towards environment ‘protection’. Keeping this trend a quiz competition was conducted on the topic ‘Global Pollution’. Students also presented slide shows of places affected by Acid Rain and also about the Green House Effect around the globe.

Page 7: Pollution: A global problem

POLLUTION: A GLOBAL PROBLEMNRS organized ‘Vanamahotsava’ on 31st July to celebrate ‘World Nature Conservation Day’. Conservation of natural resources is now broadened by embracing the concept of conserving the earth itself by protecting its capacity for self-renewal. In our effort to plant more trees and to create awareness students and staff of NRS planted saplings in the school campus. A rally was an effort to make common man aware about the need to conserve our natural resources in all possible ways so that our planet survives and blossoms. Saplings were also distributed to the neighboring schools with the theme ‘Plant a Tree and Save the Planet’.
