Study of a population based on factors such as

age, race, sex, economic status,

level of education, income level and

employment, among others.

What Does Political Demographics Mean?

Page 3: Political demographics

Why is POPULATION an important

topic?

Page 4: Political demographics

This is the fundamental question of our time, and the challenge is becoming more problematic as we add more

people.

It's important to know how fast population is growing, so that we can build sufficient sewers, roads, power plants, and schools.

Page 5: Political demographics

The Problem is...

OVERPOPULATION!

Page 6: Political demographics

A term that refers to a condition by which the population density enlarges

to a limit that provokes the environmental deterioration, a

remarkable decline in the quality of life, or a population collapse.

OVERPOPULATION

Past Human Population Growth

“J-SHAPED” Growth

Page 8: Political demographics

The human population growth of the last century has been truly phenomenal. It required only 40 years after 1960 for the population to double from 2.5 billion to 5 billion.

Page 9: Political demographics

Of the 5 billion people, about half live in poverty and at least one-fifth are severely undernourished. The rest live out their lives in comparative comfort and health.

Page 10: Political demographics

The Question is:

WHY DOES THE WORLD POPULATION

INCREASE?

Page 11: Political demographics

One must consider that it is quite natural for the population to increase in

such places where good climatic conditions, medical facilities, food and precautions are available to produce

and to protect living things. These are factors that

contributes to population increase.

Population can further increase unless sensible

people takes measures to control

it.

“THE LOWER PART OF US IS STILL ANIMAL” -Gandhi

Remember: SEX is the most dynamic force in human nature.

Whoever wants to bring his mind under complete control, a

still great measure of self-discipline is

necessary!

Page 13: Political demographics

Man’s sexual urge must be controlled properly

otherwise man will behave worse than an animal when he is intoxicated with lust.

Page 14: Political demographics

Population situation vary. Different population situation require diferent policy

actions.

Say for instance,

Canada needs to increase its

population

Page 15: Political demographics

The Philippinesneeds to limit it.

Page 16: Political demographics

The current Philippine population according to World Factbook of CIA.gov is 101,833,936 as of January 1, 2011.

WHICH MEANS...

Page 18: Political demographics

According to Wallace Report 2004:

The population growth rate in the Philippines per year is 2.4%. It is almost growing twice the average in Asia and three times the World Average.

Page 19: Political demographics

More than 55% of the Philippine

population is living on the

Northern island Luzon.

Page 20: Political demographics

The NCR which is a little part of Luzon is the most densely populated area in the country. More than 9.9 M or 13% of the total population are living here. Thus, the total area of th NCR is 636 sq. Km.

The density? On one sq. Km. are living 12.617

persons!

Page 21: Political demographics

Merton Lambert once said that, “The world has a cancer, and that cancer is

How then, does OVERPOPULATION affect POLITICS, NATURAL RESOURCES & ECONOMY?

Now, with OVERPOPULATION as an epidemic phenomena.

MAN.”

Page 22: Political demographics

Governing an overpopulated country presents problems.

Politics concerns with how decisions on allocation of scarce resources are made & implemented for the people’s welfare.

Scarce Resources in a finite world .

People with infinite reproductive capacity.

POLITICS

Page 23: Political demographics

Overpopulation does not just affect the standard of living, but also the environment. Every person on the planet takes up space.

People excrete wastes and pollution that flow into water systems, and animal habitats, polluting water, and killing wildlife.

NATURAL RESOURCES

Page 24: Political demographics

Forests are being torn down as more wood and land is needed to support our

ever-growing population. The loss of these forests leads to extinction of plants and

animals.

Page 25: Political demographics

Urban areas are expanding, polluting the air and water systems. These areas deplete the Earth’s resources, and over 2 billion hectares of arable land have already been lost, with 16 million more hectares being removed each year.

Page 26: Political demographics

Effects of vis-a-vis Nature:1) More garbage (especially solid waste). 2) More air pollution from factories as they increase produc- tion to meet demand. 3) Depletion of energy resources as the demand for energy increases. 4) More pesticide use as agriculture increases to provide necessary food. 5) Accelerated loss of nutrients in the soil due to poor farm- ing practices and overuse of land. 6) Habitat destruction for wildlife through encroachment on wilderness areas or pollution of these areas.

“NATURE IS A BALANCE OF EXISTENCE”

Page 27: Political demographics

Overpopulation has a definite effect on a country’s economy. When countries are overpopulated, the hardly have enough food to support themselves.

This can contribute to a low GDP per Capita which is effect overpopulation has on the economy. In an attempt to save the people from the starvation, the government will most likely have to rely on foreign debt.

ECONOMY

Page 28: Political demographics

This puts the country in debt at stretches the government’s already meager resources.

Furthermore, when a country is overpopulated, there is a high rate of unemployment because there just aren’t enough jobs to support the population.

This results in a high level of crime because the people will need to steal things in order to survive.

God blessed them and said to them, “Go forth and multiply...

Even the Bible speaks in Genesis 1:28

fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
