In 1958, the Auburn Children’s Theatre was born by a visionary named Sue Riford. Her love of the arts and of children created the foundation and heartbeat of the organization now known on a local, regional, statewide, national and global level. In the early 1970s, when the empty and abandoned shell of a carousel became the home for family entertainment in Auburn, NY, little did Ms. Riford know the depth of the legacy she had founded. In the early 1980s, when Ms. Riford retired and Ed Sayles took on the leadership of this emerging company, a new legacy for the company was established. Ever since then, the company and the building have blossomed into a local, regional and national haven of creativity.

For sixty years, we have played a critical role in the quality of life for generations of men, women and children in this community and beyond. So it seems fitting that as we turn sixty, we celebrate the legacy of the institution by honoring our roots and our story. A landmark anniversary enables us to reflect, appreciate, take stock and look forward. We will spend 2018 looking back on our heritage and the people who paved the path. We will spend each day embracing our achievements and appreciating our place in a vital, active and growing community.

And we always look forward as we strive to live our motto: Strong Theatre. Engaged Community. Bright Future.

I am honored to work alongside a brilliant team of devoted employees each and every day. We are here for you. We are here because the arts matter to us, they matter in our community and they matter in our society. We are here to ensure that the arts continue to enlighten, educate and entertain for another sixty years.

Each time you take your seats and the lights go to half, we aim to create a magical experience. The 2018 season is a tribute to our commitment to that experience and the value of live theatre. We are excited to give you family entertainment, show stopping singin’ and dancin’, and for the first time, a brand new musical direct from The PiTCH! It’s Broadway in the Finger Lakes in a knockout anniversary season with something for everyone! Thanks for being part of our legacy.
