7 Saving & Erasing Data

If you select Save on the field menu(p. 9), you will be able to save youradventure up to that point.

♦ You can only keep one saved-game file.

If you wish to start again from thebeginning, you will first have toerase your saved-game file. Whenyou wish to completely erase yoursaved data, press + + simultaneously from the title screen.

♦ Once your saved-game file iserased, it cannot be recovered. Allof your Pokémon, items, andsettings will be lost. Be very sureyou understand the implicationsbefore erasing your game.

8 Gameplay

This world is inhabited by mysteriouscreatures known as Pokémon. Theappearances and forms of thesePokémon and the habitats they livein are all very different. We humanslive together with our Pokémonevery single day, but there is still somuch that we do not understandabout them. Many scholars aroundthe world research them, includingProfessor Birch of Littleroot Town.

On a beautiful sunny day, you moveto Littleroot Town, where ProfessorBirch has his Pokémon Lab. Youdutifully go to greet the professorand find him being attacked by a wildPokémon. After you save him, theprofessor awards you a Pokémon ofyour own. The tale of you and yourPokémon partner is about to begin!

Register as many Pokémon as youcan in your Hoenn Pokédex byencountering and catching manydifferent types of Pokémon. This isone of the big goals to complete onyour journey!

It is important for a Pokémon Trainerto improve his or her skills. Bybattling against wild Pokémon andother Trainers, your Pokémon willgain experience and becomestronger. In the Hoenn region, youcan challenge Pokémon Gyms to testyour strength against that of others.Defeat the powerful Gym Leaderswithin them, and work hard tobecome the strongest Trainer youcan be!

View information about the Pokémonin your party, change their order,give them items, and more. If yourPokémon learn moves that can beused in the field (like Cut), you mayalso use them from here.

Data about the Pokémon you see orcapture is recorded in your Pokédex.Here you can check where aPokémon can be found, listen to itscry, view how it moves, and more.

HP is the measurement of aPokémon's health. When it reaches0, the Pokémon faints and can nolonger do battle.

When a battle starts, the Pokémonshown on the top left of thePokémon screen in the field menuwill appear first. All of the Pokémonwho take part in a battle—and arenot fainted—can gain experiencepoints if you win the battle orsuccessfully capture the opposingPokémon. However, if all of yourPokémon faint, you'll lose the battle,forfeit some of your money, and bereturned to either the last PokémonCenter you used or your home.

Flee from a battle. Attempting to runaway does not always succeed, andyou cannot run from a battle againstanother Trainer.

Direct your Pokémon to use theirmoves. The number of times you canuse a given move is listed as PowerPoints (PP). When a move's PPreaches 0, it cannot be used againuntil its PP is restored.

You can set whether you would liketo play with Friends, Acquaintances,or Passersby. By removing the checkmark next to any of these categories,you will no longer communicate withplayers from that category.

You can disable all communicationsfor the PSS from here. This will alsoprevent any data from beingexchanged through the PSS forSecret Bases, the BuzzNav, andMirage spots.

You can choose whether to enableor disable Game Chat (p. 26).

18 Pokémon-Amie

PlayNav application. Pokémon-Amiebrings you even closer to yourfavorite Pokémon. Pick one of thePokémon from your party, and youcan play together whenever you'dlike.

If you touch your Pokémon shown inthe lower screen during Pokémon-Amie, the following screen will bedisplayed.

Play with your chosen Pokémonhere. By sliding your stylus acrossthe screen, you can stroke yourPokémon.

Feed hungry Pokémon Poké Puffs!Select a Poké Puff and slide itacross the screen with your stylus towhere the Pokémon might take abite—then see what happens!

Play minigames together with yourPokémon. The types of Poké Puffsyou receive will vary based on yourresults.

❶ When your Pokémon is looking atyou, will appear on the lowerscreen.

❷ When you see , making differentfaces will launch the MakingFaces game.

Making Faces

❸ Instructions will appear on top ofthe Touch Screen, along withicons near your Pokémon's faceto show what expressions yourPokémon wants to see. Turntoward your Pokémon, and try tomake the faces it requests. If yourPokémon is happy with yourperformance, you will havesucceeded.

You can change the wallpaper andDecorations in your Pokémon-Amiespace.

Switch which Pokémon you areplaying with in Pokémon-Amie.

・Play in a well-lit area.・Keep your Nintendo 3DS system

19 Super Training

PlayNav application. Your Pokémoncan take part in Super Training, acompetitive sport and training game,or Core Training, where yourPokémon can pound away at trainingbags.

After choosing a training bag, touchthe screen to make your Pokémonstrike the training bag. By working attraining bags, your Pokémon canreap a variety of benefits, such asraising its base stats or gaininguseful advantages in its next Super-Training Regimen.

If you don't actively touch thescreen, your Pokémon will still hitthe training bag once per minute.

Play a competitive sports-styletraining game. Win the game toreceive useful items for training andincrease the base stats for yourPokémon.

Check the progress of yourPokémon's training on its Effort-o-Meter. Green represents the relativestat levels for a given kind ofPokémon, while yellow shows howmuch your own Pokémon hasimproved each of its base stats. Thebar on the right shows yourPokémon’s overall progress in raisingits stats. Fill this bar to the top, andyour Pokémon will be a Fully TrainedPokémon!

Select a Pokémon from your currentteam to train.

Slide your stylus across the screen,and the sight on the top screen willmirror your movements. Touch thescreen to release a shot.

Balloon Bots. If you score goalsequal to the number on the right,you win the game and your trainingis complete. If any of the BalloonBot's shots go into your Pokémon'sgoal, though, your score drops. Youcan block opponent's shots bypressing .

When time runs out, your Super-Training Regimen is over!

Touch this button twice, and you canexit Super Training immediately.

20 What Are Contests?

(hereafter "contests") measure yourPokémon's appeal, based onconditions like their Coolness orBeauty. There is an IntroductionRound, where you show off thePokémon being entered in thecompetition, and the Talent Round,where Pokémon vie for the top spotusing their moves. Contests are anin-game only event. You can enjoycontests at all of the Contest Halls inthe different corners of Hoenn.

Your Pokéblock Kit

If you have a Pokéblock Kit, you canmake Pokéblocks for your Pokémon.Pokéblocks help raise yourPokémon's conditions so that theycan perform even better in contests.

Taking Photos

QR Code Patterns

Select Find a Secret Base in order toread the QR Code for anotherplayer's Secret Base. When you do,the outer camera on yourNintendo 3DS system will start up.Capture the QR Code within thesquare frame that appears on thescreen.

Using Share a Secret Base will letyou make a QR Code for your SecretBase. Select it, and your QR Codewill be displayed. Have other playersscan the QR Code directly from thisscreen, or save it to your SD Cardand then share it.

・Move your system and the QRCode so that you can clearly seethe QR Code.

・Make sure that the entire QRCode fits within the frame for theouter camera.

・It will be easier to capture QRCode patterns with sufficientlighting.

・If your system's outer camera isdirty, please clean it with a softcloth.

・Capture the QR Code in a settingfree from reflections fromsunlight or other light sources. Ifthere are reflections on thesurface, you will not be able toread the QR Code.

・If you print your QR Code onpaper, it may not read properly ifthe paper is folded, bent, ormarred in some way. Smooth itout flat and make sure it has nomarks on it.
