Some POS considerations to think about when opening a location.

Placement

Placement of POS is important. Appropriate positioning can help customer service flow.

Counters should take size of POS hardware (touch screen, tablet etc) into consideration. Can your staff see over the POS screen?

Will you be mounting the cash drawer under the counter or will the POS sit on top?

Planning on having a customer display monitor? Is it visible to the customer?

Completely verify your cable needs with your POS vendor.

Do you have the right size hole in counter for cable ends?

Do cables run from remote printers/monitors to POS stations or network router?

Are cables run to POS terminals for internet access or network configuration?

Are your POS and credit card vendors compatible?

Does your credit card vendor have setup information for POS vendor?

Is there a possibility of using both phone and data lines for credit card processing?

Are you setup for tipping if desired? Are all MOTO (online/phone) accounts setup?

How are you getting the order to the barista? Is the barista close enough to print a ticket from the receipt printer at the POS? Does it make more sense to print a ticket directly at the espresso machine station? Would a barista monitor display be a better choice?

Do you need a remote printer for kitchen or expediting? How does the kitchen let the customer know the order is ready? Can you print from the receipt printer at the POS station?

Do you need a sticky paper or label printer for boxes & bags?
