Interview with Lucas Benavidez, singer of Utopia

-Tell us how and when Utopia was formed.

The topic of the date we are not very sure, but we start 5 years ago more or less. The idea always was a band armed Heavy metal wide as for the styles. We were arming ourselves; first there appeared Patricio Olivera (guitar), César Ridao (rhythm guitar) that is not any more. In the drums there were several changes until Neat "Nacho" mated us. Also several bassists happened until he remained Nicolás who already is not, with him we were two years until it had to go away and today per today Adrián Toledo is taking charge of four ropes.

-In the sound of the band there are obvious several influences of different styles.It owes to the musical tastes of each one, we all have different tastes, so each one is reaching. Thereabouts I take a base and Duck is contributing some arreglitos, Nacho him puts something of his. The same thing happens Broke when it brings some riff, we are looking for him something different and like that the topics stay. When we extract the plate they are going to notice the different so unds: Black, Thrash , Power, of everything a bit.

-With what material account the band?Now we are promoting a demo of 3 songs and inside small we are going to extract the disc with 9 sons. The lyrics include social topics, from the relation between the boss and the worker up to of how it is quite industrialized, how the machines have replaced the man; also they include personal topics.

A lot of time happened from June, 2011 when I was up to Cipolletti and suffered the disappointment of finding out that Jerikó's recital (in this opportunity close to Magnos and Mojón) had been cancelled like Ibiza, the place that this November 23 (under Barba Azul´s name) was giving appointment to avenge that dream and the wound to close with Metal, to meet again of once.

We come to the place about 10 p.m. to see to the bands of the zone that was made listen. Utopia that was presenting topics of "Fragmentación" and some Lörihen's cover, Horcas and Malón; Motor Rugiente with songs of what will be his first disc " El Rugir del Motor ", besides songs of the H and V8. Also they became present Cauttivos de Plottier, who are presenting his first EP, and De Armas.Spent them 03:00 a.m. rose to the scene Jerikó to end with the anxiety of the public who from different places became present in Cipolletti to start enjoying "Restos del Pasado" and "Acierto". The best band of the country (to my to deal) revised his wide discography during this show. Songs of the first epoch, as "Tierra Violada" and "Reventado" they intermingled with those of his last album: "Perros", "Ezquizofrenia", “Nuevo Fraude" and "Secreto".

Undoubtedly one of the best recitals that I have seen, this did that the crossed kilometres were costing a sorrow. The recital happened for all the climates, from the pogo in the most frantic songs up to continuing looking how there touches each of the excellent musicians of this band.Two moments that I would like to emphasize. The first one, the alone one of bass the great Marcelo Bracalente (Highland Reel) shouted by all the public to give beginning to "Desde los Fríos Muros". Show - Show - Show - Show - Show - Show -

Warm and very longed Friday, there does much that wanted to see Helker and when I found out that they were coming nearby doubt not even a second. The metal night began with another band that had many desire of seeing, I speak about Abaddon, excellent band that demolished the head with his demo "To return To begin " and in this opportunity to turn it to doing but live with all the force and the endurance typical of the band. They began with the song that more I like "Where Do We Go?" And they continued with all the songs of his authorship to end with a cover of Damageplan, typical of the style of the band. The second and last band supports it was Serphica with a style similar to that of Nightwish, even with cover of the above mentioned band.The moment came, the members of Helker deposited Bluebeard where I had the possibility of some photos extracting myself with them and

asked Diego Valdez to touch "Mendigando Perdón" more celebrated for me when they did it.

As it had been advanced by his bassist Chri stian Abarc a in the pre vious edition of th is magazine, the band gave a long show revis ing all his discs and, obviously, executin g topics of the recent one "Somewhere In the Circle " with that the members of the band met surprised on having seen that the public was singing all the songs. Of the latter and apart from the already mentioned ones, they touched "Still alive", "Dreams" and "Flying" that it was one of the moments most dist inguished from the show with the whole people shouting the song.

Helker clarified in in every topic why they achieved the international recognition, every chord, every melody, every topic executed to the perfection and accompanied by one of the best voices of the country, that of Mr. Diego Valdez. The band was grateful and surprised b y t he e uphoria a nd t he e ndurance o f t he whole p eople t hat B luebeard f illed; t o s aying t ruth, I also was surprised, since in the last dates the concurrence was coming reducing. But nobody wants to get lost a show as this, pure Heavy Metal.15 songs, between which the classic ones did not fail "wake up", "where Will You Be?" and "Nuclear Dust-bin ". The final song was evident, a shout that it is born from the chest with "Like to You" to close the show (or at least we believed it). Once finished the topic, the people did not stop singing and started asking for one more topic to the shout of "Prisoner! Prisoner! ". Helker returned to hang his instruments and Diego Valdez announced the song with the phrase " you deserve it ". And this way, pogueando until the end, he concluded another night of Metal that it will stay for the history. Only there remains to emphasize and to be grateful the humility of these musicians of the great one for 7 that, besides the interview, allowed us a few photos for the magazine.

-Let's Talk About Triddana, tell us as did the band.

-What tematics cover the lyrics?

The lyrics talk of different topics. For example , "facking a War" he talks about the war, how governments to manipulate the people, send them to die to the soldiers to defend economic and political interests; another that he alks about the war is "The wicked Wheel".

-The majority of the members of the band are former Skiltron so that the style is quite similar. What is the difference between Tridanna and what was Skiltron at that time?

We had the objective to take a step forward with respect to the music, to do something that was a little more prepared, better compound;

The musical style in general lines will continue to be Folk Metal without doubt, but what is different is that this disc is going to deepen a little bit more the two styles that mixes the band; both the Folk part as the Heavy part is going to be a little more in-depth. The two advances that we climb fail to see that.

The theme of the letters i still can't anticipate much because we're composing the material, but surely going to deepen the idea of the first disc.

-Are you having shows?

-We were taking shows during 2012 and 2013, the 2014 we started with an acoustic. Surely the disk is going to go out and half of the year and we are going to do the official presentation.

-¿What means Triddana?

The name comes from an Irish word, "Troideanna", which means "struggle". We change the way you write it to "Triddana" to write as it sounds and that s when you search for the word direct you directly to the band.

-Tell us a little of the history of the band.

Electro-Nomicon exists before that Diego and I join. The founding member Owen Bryant, the drummer. Diego with Owen came taking a relationship via the internet years ago and speaking of doing a project together that in a first moment was going to be another band parallel to Electro-Nomicon , step were the majority of the members and then Owen offers to Diego to continue with that and Diego invites me to me. Then the training was three of us and David Jackson in the under that is the brother of Eddie Jackson (bassist of Queensryche). At the beginning of 2012 traveled them two for aca to begin recording the first album, but in the end what recorded David Jackson was not in the disc and the bass was recorded by my. For a long time we were a trio because the band was born as a project, we didn't know what was going to happen. We were looking for for quite some time how to edit the disk because we had recorded but we had a stamp that will launch in any country. Looking for Owen found the stamp "No Remorse" of Greece, but was also distributed in the United Kingdom, the United States and Japan. Still the band did not show any live show, is a project that took place in the album nothing more. But this year, we thought that we are going to be able to do the first show, if it materializes in Europe and Japan.

-What do you talk about the songs of Electronomicon?

For example, the letter of "Far Away" speaks what is to be separated to a great distance of kilometres, but nonetheless the affective link does not get lost for anything. Later do we take letters as that of the pop video that we did in October of this year of the topic "Do you Remeber?" That speaks what is the consumption, of living in a system as this one that values the persons for what they have, and of remembering how it was when it was not like that.

We did all the songs between Diego and me. This disc is the more spontaneous thing that we have done because when we record a disc we are in the habit of doing pre-production, demos, and models of the songs. Here it was spontaneous enough. We were doing the songs throughout two years, since we enter with Diego up to recording the disc. It was spontaneous because I was arming the bases, Diego was putting the melodies and in the first attempts already it was staying how they were going

-To what does it aim at the immediate future of the band?

Now it is quite in view of what they are the editions in Europe and Japan. If the disc sells well, we have possibilities of being going to touch there. Also one sees if it is possible to do a national edition and, of being able to be done, also there are going to be shows here.

The History of Heavy Metal

A difficult year in the Argentina, in the economic thing and in the Heavy Metal also. While some bands were growing, as for example ANIMAL and Halógena, others were separating (Rata Blanca, Logos and Malón). But in turn, these separations would mark the beginning of new bands, as Walter Giardino Temple, Cruel Adicción, Visceral and O'Connor.

The disc was recorded on December 2, 1997 in the Audience Promúsica, where on Zamarbide (voice) and Roldán (guitar) they accompanied Fernando Scarcella (drums) and Machy Madco (bass) whom also it had touched in Pappo's Blues. The disc possesses 14 songs of his 3 record productions, more the cover of the honoring to V8 "Across the Times" and it was including like bonus track an acoustic version of "In the Violent City ".

East would be the third and last act, since the band would dissolve in ' 98 when the "Beto" Zamarbide would be going to be lived to The United States and Miguel Roldán would begin with Cruel Adicción.

In the top of his success, A.N.I.M.A.L. was editing his fourth album, already with new drummer: Andrés Villanoba and with the presence of several guests, between them Jimmy DeGrasso (drummer of Alice Cooper, Megadeth, etc.), León Gieco and Robert Trujillo (current bassist of Metallica, Ex-Ozzy Osbourne y Suicidal Tendences). Between 15 songs, the album was including classic "Madman Pro" and three covers: Body Count's "Cop Killer", "Forces To last" of The Ramones and "Five Centuries Equally" of León Gieco. It was produced by Max Cavalera.

After the separation of Logos, Miguel Roldán joins to Claudio Vattino (voice), Walter Scasso (bass) and Carina Berges (drums) to form Cruel Addiction and to edit his first demo of two topics, "Before that To kill ourselves" and "Shouts the Reality".

Without you doubt one of the biggest bands of the Patagonia, from Plaza Huincul, Neuquén. In this year they were editing his first demo with Daniel Carrasco's formation (bass and vocals), Ariel Basualto (guitar) and Sebastián Figueroa (drums). Some of 6 songs that this demo was including were "Puel Purrum", "The Fear That one" and "Chief Yatel".

The band was formed in ' 95 by the brothers Andrés, Marcelo and Rubén Barreto (bass/ guitar and vocals/ drums respectively), to whom Diego Conte added in the guitar. In those days the band had a style Heavy Metal Thrash and they recorded this first demo in 4 channels with 7 songs, 5 of them would form a part of his first album. The name of the band was extracted of the mythological book "The Dictionary of the Hell" and it means "Prince of the Darkness ".

The band there was formed in 1991 by Pablo Iacono and Fernando Babio (guitars), Gabriel "The Soldier" Oliverio (vocals), Adrián Fernandez (bass) and Ernesto Perez (drums). Newly in the year ' 98 there manage to take form 8 of his songs in this album; between them, "In The Nights without dreams", "Corrupt" y "White Crosses".

One of the best discs of the history of the Argentine Metal and obviously of this year. Walter Giardino's only one out of Rata Blanca, this time accompanied by Rubén Trombini (bass), Paul Catania (keyboards), ex-ANIMAL Martin Carrizo (drums), and the Ex-VagabundoNorberto Rodríguez (vocals). Also there happened for the band then Daniel Leonetti (bass), Fernando Scarcella (drums), Miguel De Ipola (keyboards) and Adrián Barila ri some years la ter. The disc contains 10 excellent songs, one better than other one with the virtuosity that characterizes Walter Giardino,

much heavier than the discs of Rata Blanca and with a better sound. In "Sea Cut " the guitar solo emulates to the tango "Canaro in Paris" of Alejandro Scarpino, Juan Caldarella and Jose Antonio Scarpino. It is difficult to choose song, but to name some, "Blue and black", "The Club of the Lost Souls", "Hunt", "Hero of the Eternity" and the set of instruments "The Dance of the Fire".

The first disc of this band of Thrash Metal formed in the year 1995 by Daniel Lopez (drums), Alejandro Burgos (guitar), Ramon Duré (voice) and Rafael Florentín (bass). It was containing songs of contained social fort, as "Marginally", "Blessed Law” and "Despicable Reality". This disc would be re-edited in 2006 by some live bonus tracks and a version of "Avoiding the Running-in" of Hermética.

The band was formed after the separation of Malón, when the "Tano" Romano and Carlos Kuadrado joined Willy Cavallero to form again Cerbero, but with another name, supporting the essence Black Metal with the sound influenced by Venom. This way Visceral it was recording his first album with songs as "Visceral", "Eskape" that probably is the best song of the disc, "The Howling of the Animal" and the Cerbero's classic one "Black Mass".

The first disc together with the drummer Walter Martínez, from Vorax. This disc would be produced by Ricardo Mollo and his brother, Omar Mollo, wouldtake part in the topic "From the West" touching the bass-drum legüero. This disc reflects Almafuerte's essence, with the homonymous song, besides classic since "Be You” and "To be A Human being together with mine". Also the topic includes "Child Chief" that narrates a royal history of the kid murdered in a group of Villa Ballester and his friends went to rescue his body. The "polemic" song is "A Victory" written by Iorio after the separation of Malón. The lid shows the "Brave Hand" that describes the cover.

We received the invitation to make the note and it seems to us very important to us to disseminate the music of the bands of the valley.

-Tell us about the beginnings of the band.

With Leo Leiva (singer) we have been playing 2 years ago. We come from a band which was called The Belgrano, formed with other musicians at Centenario. We parted and arrange Sobreviviente, some of our songs come from the time of the Belgrano.

-You would be the survivors of the Belgrano haha.

Exactly, it was very funny. We started to play and we still don't have name, and yelling at us that we were the Conqueror, which sank the Belgrano. After Leo postulated "Survivor" because it was very loose put Conqueror.

-What is the style of the band?

For Heavy Metal is very fast and does not have to thrash this crush all the time, but mixing the two styles in a way quite in that we can execute the two styles without any inconvenience. Also we are looking for a specific style because you're limited to the time of the composition. The songs are songs that one makes as you can.

-Who is in charge of the composition?

There are songs that are composed of my, from the lyrical to the music. We also share compositions with Leo, the lyrics and I do what is rhythm and music.

-How and what they are talking about the lyrics?

The majority have social content, whatever our claim by the oppression of the working people; the song "Lie" speaks about the church that gets with the decision of the body; "disobedient to the Time" speaks of a worker that tells you that this tired from work each day, to maintain the mask. In most of the content is social.

-Recently took out the disc, tell us a little of how was the recording process and how is the disc itself.

The process of recording was not so long, what was long was the process of mixing and being satisfied with the item of the eq. We recorded MaxRexordsframes, the same sound technician who made the recording of the album of Induxion Mental, another band of Centenary. The problem lies in the fact that you have an idea of the sound that you want in the head and when you see the mix what you recorded you have to try to translate it and it complicates the issue of blends, eq'ing, enhance, and also the fact of the postproduction, add sounds or retouching.

The disc in May we had already cooked everything that are recording tracks, which we recorded ourselves. But what took longer was the mixing and uncalculating correct, because that is the frequency of a track got involved in the frequency of another and was not heard well. What we have now slowed is out of the physical disk. We have not got the money to be able to send them to do some printing.

-When does think that is going to have?

This is a job for the next year, in the early months of 2014 we are going to devote to making the physical disk. The album is on the internet, but we are not in physical form. The art of cover is already developed, we have the help of one of the photographers who accompanies us always that is Marcelo Garrido and the ideas for the disc we have them already. You know how difficult it is for a band in the area, there is no charge to play and ultimately Salis putting money to be able to play because you have to solve the transport, the ropes, what costs are equipped. After you have the fact of producers that want to charge you to play with any band for the theme of the entries.

We have a proposal to touch the January 18 with the band Rowek in Pirkas. Leo and i had the opportunity to play with Gustavo with jointing work of friends called Wisconsin, touched with the themes of white rat and V8 in a visit to Centenary in the framework of a clinic. Now we are going to play with survivor if everything continues on wheels.

-What is the current formation of the band?

Leo Leiva is the singer, Fernando Garrido the drummer who is also the drummer's girlfriend (me translating of Utopia, Fernando Medina bassist and I Marcelo Leyes on guitar.

We are already in the process of composing more themes. The fact of record is going to be a work of generating money to do so. Another of the important things about Survivor was playing with will reign in Storm Blue Beard (Cipolletti), was very important touch with Walker that is one of the bassists more known with the sound and more marked. It was a very good experience. The people of South of Hell we convened for that date and we were treated quite well, with much respect, did not charge us as the other producers who demand that be selling tickets, you stumbled being a seller of entries instead of a musician.

Recommended Albums

Awaited disc a lot of time ago, it was waiting for it since I never read in the book of the Train that one was coming a new so called disc "Old School", better position the name. Classic sound, pure Heavy metal, sounds to Mad Train. It begins with the whole polenta with "Artillera Pesada" and every song is loaded with power (up to the slowest). 10 excellent songs, from "The Persecutor" up to "Old School", happening for a "Gentleman of the Darkness” i n R o n n i e J a m e s D i o ' s m e m o r y ,

"For Knock Out" (sung by the Zombie), "Four Winds" in support to the fight of the peoples originariosy "My Way". Already I listened to the disc several times and I do not get tired of doing it. In addition, it possesses the musicians' participation as Willy Quiroga (Vox Dei).

If about awaited discs we speak, that cannot be absent of Renacer. Another magic disc, through. Marking the return of the band to the Power Metal of his first discs, seemed in his conception to the disc "Renacer". Poetry of simple to sing made songs that divide the head, as the the same "Immortal Spirit" (that has 3 parts!) and it names several old songs of the band, "The Truth of the Lie", "For the Routes of the Oblivion", "do not throw roots". Excellent disc of this band Argentinean-Russian formed in 2011 by Denis Kormakov (guitar and vocals), Paul Martínez (drums) and Ariel Orsi (bass). This one Is a conceptual album that centred on the Revolution of October, sung in English and in Russian to the compass of a classic Heavy metal but with a modern sound and of excellent quality. It does not have waste, every topic has his captivation; from sticky "Harder Than Steel" up to "OroHb", happening for "All Around Dead", the same "Doom in Nation" and "In Front of Reality" with Ralf Scheepers's participation (Primal Fear). As if it was small, a distinctive version of the Accept's classic one "Metal Heart". There abound the details and the arrangements, careful accomplishment, meticulous in every detail.

Agreeable surprise, to receive Andy “Ind”'s e-mail, singer of the Russian band Grenouer, sending the last disc of the band that travels the underground of that distant country from 1992 and that already has 7 published albums.
