Well, we’ve made it through another year and I

admit to loving the start of a new one. What is

more inspirational than a clean sheet of paper, a

fresh canvas, or a new lump of clay? I have

promised myself to start a daily sketch book

journal. I have done this before and never gotten

too far but when I re-discover them, I really like

what I see, even if it’s a few words or a simple

sketch. The creativity seems to be really honest

emotion and very satisfying.

Our final show of the year was our annual Holi-

day Show at the Faulkner. Even though we lim-

ited the entries to 2 per person, the ingathering

did not disappoint. We also allowed each new

member from 2016 to hang one piece for free in

the East Gallery. Our total intake was 185

works of art in a wide variety of media and the

resulting show looks fabulous. Once again,

thank you Roger Balabanow for your curating

and hanging talents. We had one memorial

award in this show to honor Ada Beth Holcombe

and decided to give it to one of our new mem-

bers. The winner was Virginia Kamhi for her

beautiful pastel Tuscan Gold. Our reception on

Thursday was very well attended and a special

thank you to Beth Taylor who went above and

beyond to make the refreshments delicious and

festive – we received many nice compliments

about how tasty everything was.

A reminder, this show comes down on Friday,

December 30th from 10-12. Anyone not pick-

ing up their work on time will not be allowed to

to enter our February show at the Faulkner

and you don’t want to miss that since, as of this

writing, it is our only scheduled Faulkner

show in 2017 until December!

Besides the Faulkner show in February, we will

have another change out at 1919 State Street on

Saturday, February 11th from 10-12. We will

be announcing the jurors for both of these shows

after the beginning of the year.

It’s also time to start painting orchids for the an-

nual S. B. International Orchid Show. All

works, providing they represent orchids, will be

accepted and hung. A juror will select award

winners. Go to the website listed on page 1 of

this newsletter for complete information. If you

enter online by March 3rd, you will avoid paying

a late fee at the ingathering. This is a short show

with a good sales history so it’s well worth the

effort.

I would like to send personal notes of congratu-

lations to Anne Anderson for her very successful

tenure as President of GVAA and to Elizabeth

Flanagan as the newly elected GVAA President.

I am proud to say both ladies are active members

of SBAA.

A final thank you to the SBAA Board of Direc-

tors for an excellent year of friendship and good

works.
