Haven’t participated in a Poker Run before you say? That’s no problem, it is simple and a lot of fun. Anyone who wants to participate will pay $5.00 per person to play and will have a chance to win one of 10 cash prizes. In addition, a portion of all money collected will be donated

to a local charity.

There will be 5 locations every participant will need to visit in order to receive a sealed envelope containing one playing card. The plan is to have all the locations on the fairgrounds or close by so participants won’t have to travel too far to get their cards. Participants will need to wear their Newmar name badges in order to receive their cards. After visiting each location and gathering all 5 cards you will simply take your cards back to where you signed up, have your envelopes opened and your poker hand established. Best hands win. What could be

easier than that?

Signups will take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday September 27, 28, and 29th from 9 am to 2 pm in the registration area and you will need to turn in your 5 unopened envelopes prior to 2

pm on Thursday, October 3rd.

Yes, it is indeed delightful to be “on the road” again! As soon as the doc said I was clear to travel after the fall and fractured wrist, we were rolling within 24 hours! He said the healing was fine and PT was doing good but to continue to wear a splint for at least 4 more weeks. Well, dang, I did manage to break that splint, not once but twice and it is now collecting dust! The therapy exercises continue…and continue and continues. Must say THANK YOU once again for all the get well wishes.

We deeply regret that we were not able to attend the 2019 Tampa RV show due to the injury to the wrist. We had traveled west for the past couple of years to visit Newmar friends at Quartzsite, rallies and luncheons. We were looking forward to reconnecting with many of you in Tampa. It is exciting to see so many Newmar units in one place and so many vendors with all that great “stuff”. Guess we will have to do that and make plans for the 2020 Tampa Show.

We have been doing this for some time, traveling the USA and Canada, so we did miss our travels and many, many Newmar friends. It was refreshing and unexpected to find so many of you in the various campgrounds we stopped as we traveled south. The fact that we could not make definite plans until the last minute may have actually helped us. We also had the chance to share many Konnection magazines with those that were not aware of the Newmar Kountry Klub…can you imagine such a thing??

As we traveled south to visit with you at rallies and luncheons, we did have a very special and “full of memories” visit with Kent & Nancy Miller. They are our buddies and former Florida State Directors when we were Region 5 Directors. They were big time helpers when we were doing the Tampa RV show together. Thank you, Kent & Nancy, for a great visit and showing us a delicious Mexican Restaurant. We may just have to stop by on the way home.

HERE’S WHAT’S HAPPENINGBob & Bonnie Krieger (12508-L), International Directors

Linda Feece, Klub Coordinator • DeAnn LaMaine, Office Assistant

We enjoyed the March Newmar owners luncheon in Fort Myers, spending time with our Florida State Directors and around 40 other snowbirds. A big thank you to Ron & Wanda Llewellyn for organizing these luncheons over the past several years and asking us to speak at the meeting. We shared stats on the growth of the Klub, upcoming special events and some of the details on the 2019 International Rally to be held in Syracuse, New York in the fall. Besides the Llewellyn’s and ourselves the Hadley’s (Region 7 Directors) were also promoting the event with our Syracuse orange rally shirts. If attending the event you may want to pack your sunglasses for the opening ceremonies!

Reminder to all…stay up-to-date if you are on the wait list for our special events. As of this date, the Alaska Caravan, led by Larry & Patsy Wood, has two openings. I WANT TO GO!! The departure date is June 1 and I am so jealous! We will be busy planning for Syracuse but would love to attend. Patsy & Larry have done this caravan before and will be excellent leaders to show off our beautiful Alaska. We have a friend who has recently settled in Alaska and the photos she shares make this trip even higher on my bucket list.

The same goes for the Newfoundland/Maritimes Caravan. I WANT TO GO! There are still a few openings and that departure date is July 3. Dave & Joanne Killey have already opened a special Facebook page for attendees and have the agenda ready to publish. We had the good fortune to do much of this tour on our own a couple of years ago but not enough time to do it right. So if you want to “do it right” plan to travel with Dave and Joanne and Newmar.

Did you catch the “reveal” of the new Newmar Super C RV on the internet? It was a beautiful new product for Newmar branching out into a new market. I am hopeful that we will be able to have one for viewing at the Syracuse International Rally. Search YouTube for videos of the Super C as well as a prototype chair lift that is under development and evaluation to make motor home entry less difficult.

Well – got to run – we are attending the Fort Myers Newmar Luncheon soon. We are in Naples, Florida right now and will leave next week to dash over to the Region 3 Rally in Fredericksburg, Texas.

Safe Travels – see you down the road!Bob and Bonnie KriegerInternational Directors

13APRIL / MAY 2019 WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM

PARKING/REGISTRATIONThis year we will have three levels of parking available: 50 amp full hookup and 30 or 50 amp electric and water. You will have the option of coming in on Friday or Saturday. There are several ways you can register. You can do so on line www.newmarkountryklub.com; or complete the registration forms found within this issue and mail or fax your reservation to the office (fax 574-773-5130). Sorry but we cannot take any phone reservations for the International Rally.

BOONDOCKINGIf you are scheduled to come in on Friday, September 27 we will have an area set up to boondock at the fairgrounds (dry camping/no power) on Thursday, September 26, for $10. If you boondock, we ask that you please stay out of the rally area so we can complete set-up and rally preparations.

PLEASE CHECK YOUR RESERVATION FORM BEFORE SENDINGWe receive many forms that are not filled out completely, or with incorrect credit card information or check amounts. Unfortunately if we have to try to reach you to clear up a problem it will delay your reservation being processed. Please be sure to provide your email and cell number on your form.

CARAVANSAll caravan reservations must be sent in together either by mail, fax or registering online. If doing online the caravan leader must contact Linda in the Klub office to supply her with a list of who is in the caravan and when they are all being submitted. As we have three options of parking sites please be sure everyone is registered for the same option and arrival dates. The Caravan will be processed after all reservations have been received. Once the caravan is processed we cannot add units to the group. Any questions give Linda a call at 877-639-5582 or email to [email protected].

EARLY BIRD REGISTRATIONThis year’s early bird deadline is Friday, July 26, 2019. If your reservation is received by that day you will be included in the drawing to be held during Opening Ceremonies. So get those forms in early!

SERVICE AT INTERNATIONAL RALLYWithin your reservation packet you will receive a Service Request form in a yellow envelope. Be sure to fill out the form and return to the service department by their deadline date. If you do not have time to mail by that date, bring paperwork to the rally and you will be processed as non-registered.

The service department once again wants to emphasize the benefits and importance of preregistering. First, preregistering often allows the techs to bring your needed parts to the rally; second, preregistering allows priority service check-in beginning the first morning; those who are not preregistered will report later that morning to register for service work.

In order to service as many customers as possible during the rally, the Service Department will prioritize their service in the following sequence:

1. Emergency customers will be serviced first. Emergency items are ONLY items that would prevent a coach from leaving the rally, or render a coach uninhabitable.

2. Warranty customers will be serviced in order of date of purchase, beginning with the most recent.

3. Out-of-warranty customers will also be serviced in order of date of purchase, beginning with the most recent. Newmar will offer this service at a reduced service rate plus reduced cost of parts.

PARTS DEPARTMENTThe Parts Department will bring an inventory of the more popular parts for you to purchase during the rally. Remember, if they do not have the part at the rally you can order it for later delivery. Start working on your list of parts needed.

HANDICAP & DIABETIC MEMBERSPlease make sure we are aware of your needs by indicating on your reservation form. This year the handicap parking will be all three parking options. These will be reserved by order of paid reservations received. For Handicap parking we will need a copy of your mirror hang tag or a letter from your doctor sent with your reservation.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR THE RALLYWithin this issue you will see an editorial listing areas we need help with. Not only will you be helping your fellow Klub members but it’s a great way to meet new friends. Call Linda in the Klub office, she will be glad to sign you up. Don’t forget your Region Directors and the Fulltimers’ Chapter are also looking for volunteers; please contact them direct for information on their duties.

2019 INTERNATIONAL RALLY

In addition to my highly recommended VT-100, a north-south road through the center of Vermont <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vermont_Route_100>, there are these scenic routes with corresponding maps attached.

In Southwest Vermont and Northwest Massachusetts there are two scenic drives. A one-day trip out of the Greenwood Lodge <https://campvermont.com/greenwood>. The Molly Stark Trail in Vermont <www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g57183-d105504-Reviews-Molly_Stark_Trail-Bennington _Vermont.html> and the Mohawk Trail in Massachusetts <www.bywayswest mass.com/byways/mohawk-trail> are both very scenic and, in the case on the Mohawk, have many interesting cultural stops.

Another Vermont road trip is from Lone Pine Campground <www.lone pinecampsites.com>, located 15 minutes north of Burlington, to Waterbury, through Smugglers Notch <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smugglers_Notch> and back to the park. This is a car only trip! You can add a quick 14-mile side trip to the state capital of Montpelier. It is the smallest state capital (7,500 people) and has the distinction of being the only state capital without a McDonalds or Burger King. Back on the loop drive you can visit Ben and Jerry’s in Waterbury and the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe then cross over the pass known as Smugglers Notch on VT-108 and VT-104 to Cambridge.

We thank the Fulltimers Chapter and Dick White for allowing us to reprint this information from their Traveling Times Chapter Newsletter.

15APRIL / MAY 2019 WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM

We travel not to escape life, but so life does not escape us.

There is so much to see and do that there is not enough time. Our bucket list grows faster than we have time to cross things off. That is one

of the amazing things about traveling, just when you think you’ve seen everything in an area, a new road is discovered.

The second amazing thing about traveling is the wonderful people you meet along the way. People you might never have met if you hadn’t taken that path, chosen that campground or attend that Rally.

We challenge each and every one of you to travel to at least one new location this year. Find a rally in the neighboring state, or two states away or maybe across the border....think of all the possibilities, the places you will see, the experiences you will have and the fun in meeting new lifelong friends. Don’t let life escape you.

We are sure by now you have heard that the Kountry Klub is looking for new International Directors as Bob & Bonnie Krieger will be stepping down. They have been wonderful to work with and they have done so much to move the Klub forward. We know whoever steps up will bring their own knowledge and flare to the Klub.

Have you ever thought about becoming involved with the Kountry Klub? It’s never too late to think about it, or to volunteer at any level. If you are interested, talk to someone who is already filling a position, ask them what it is like and let them know you are interested. Ask if you can work alongside them if it’s a rally, maybe be a co-Host. There are so many opportunities, just ask.

We have been busy in the American South West, attending rallies, luncheons, and breakfast. Soon we will pointing our home towards the east and taking the long way to get to the International Rally in Syracuse, New York.

INTERNATIONAL MEMBERS-AT-LARGEEvan & Debbie Hughes (19771)

Did you know, per Wikipedia, Syracuse is a city in Central New York situated on the former lands of the Onondaga Nation. It was officially incorporated as a village in 1825. But before that is had several names, Salt Point (1780), then Webster's Landing (1786), Bogardus Corners (1796), Milan (1809), South Salina (1812), Cossits’ Corners (1814), and Corinth (1817). The U.S. Postal Service rejected the name Corinth upon its application for a post office, stating there was already a post office by this name in New York. The name Syracuse was chosen, after Syracuse, Sicily, because of similarities such as a salt industry and a neighboring village named Salina.

We hope to see many of you in Syracuse this fall, until then, travel, have fun and meet new people.

PS: We will be collecting Box Tops for Education and the International Rally to donate to a local Syracuse school.

We have a wait list for the rally, so if you are interested in joining us, drop us an email to be placed on the list.

We plan to caravan into the International Rally as a group and enjoy each other’s company as we park together there. The Fulltimers will continue the fun at International as we meet for a social, present a series of “Life on the Road” seminars, and keep the attendees happy by supplying popcorn and lemonade at our Fulltimers booth.

We want to welcome Tom & Barbara Palmer as our new chapter secretary. Thanks for taking on this very important task.

“April hath put a spirit of youth in everything.” ~ William Shakespeare, Sonnets

We’re looking forward to a great spring and summer as we travel north and work on plans for the Fulltimers Chapter Fal l Ral ly and

Annual Business Meeting in Alexandria Bay, New York. We hope to check out the site of the International Rally in Syracuse while we’re in the area. Along the way we’ll stop for maintenance at Freightliner in Gaffney, South Carolina and a new windshield (again) at Newmar in Nappanee, Indiana.

We want to thank everyone that stopped by the Fulltimers Chapter Social at the Tampa RV Supershow in January. It was a popular event and over 65 people attended. Events like this are a great opportunity to make new friends, renew old friendships and exchange information.

We hosted a Newmar Owners get-together at our winter quarters at Mt. Olive Shores North in Polk City, Florida in February. All Newmar Owners in the area were welcome to the cookout and we had about 60 people attend. It was a fun way to meet fellow Newmar owners and catch up with old friends.

We certainly are an enthusiastic group, having filled both the Spring Rally in Silver City, New Mexico and our Fall Rally in Alexandria Bay, New York.

The Fulltimers Chapter Spring Rally at Rose Valley RV Ranch in Silver City, New Mexico is being held April 15 – 19 and is FULL at 17 sites. Hosts Barbara Nuehring and John & Nancy Kelker have planned some fun activities in Silver City and Grant County for the attendees.

The Fall Rally and Annual Business Meeting at Swan Bay Resort in Alexandria Bay, New York is also FULL at 60 sites. The Rally will be held September 22 – 27. (The week before NKK International.) We are very exciting about the location in beautiful Alexandria Bay along the St. Lawrence River at Swan Bay Resort. There certainly is no shortage of things to do in the 1000 Islands area with museums and castles to explore. We have a private boat tour luncheon cruise planned as well as meals, campfires and Fun and Friendship. The Annual Business meeting

18 WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM APRIL / MAY 2019

It’s already April and we are well into spring. Many of us are fortunate to spend our winters where the weather isn’t too harsh. Many of you have the task every year to winterize your RV requiring draining the tanks, flushing the water out of all the lines and then adding RV antifreeze to protect everything from freezing. Then there is

adding an anti-gel to the diesel fuel. It’s all time consuming but it’s better than a big bill to repair damage caused by the cold weather.

We had planned to attend the Nevada State Rally at Lake Mead and the Arizona Sun Catchers rally at Lake Havasu but had to cancel going due to surgery on my hand. Surgery wasn’t a big deal but recovery required me to keep my thumb immobile for 6 weeks meaning no lifting or driving.

The Region 1 Rally in Pahrump, Nevada on May 14-17 still had a few openings when this article was being written. We will be having a chili cook-off again this year. Last year in Durango, Colorado more than half of the rally attendees participated. Each participant made approximately 2 quarts of their “special” chili for everyone to taste. Small 2 ounce tasting cups and small plastic spoons for the tasting and a single bean (for voting) was provided to every attendee for the tasting. The bean was to be placed in a covered container in front of each participant. It was fun and we got to taste 16 different chilies. In addition to the tasting we have a trip to the local museum with a docent that is very knowledgeable of the area. Did you know that Pahrump started “life” as a cotton producing area? We will also be going to the China Ranch Date Farm. The highlight of the rally is dinner at Symphony Restaurant. This is a 5-star dinner! There will be free time for those who want to make a trip the Death Valley about 45 minutes away.

There are many rallies scheduled throughout Region 1 the remainder of the year. Rather than elaborate on each one here are the dates. Consult the Klub calendar for details of each.

Arizona Sun Catchers – Lake Havasu, AZ – April 4 to 8California 49ers – Paso Robles, CA – April 23 to 26Region One – Pahrump, NV – May 14 to 17California Sate – Jackson, CA – May 27 to 30New Mexico State – Angel Fire, NM – June 13 to 17Colorado Krusin Aires – Canyon City, CO – June 13 to 17Nevada Mother Lode – Minden, NV – August 8 to 11New Mexico Chili Peppers – Santa Fe, NM – August 15 to 19Colorado State – Palisade, CO – September 12 to 16Newmar International – Syracuse, NY – Sept 30 to Oct 5California Golden Bears – Plymouth, CA – October 28 to 31Arizona State – Tucson area – Nov or Dec timeframe

This year we are again tasked with parking and registration at the International. We’d like to thank everyone who has volunteered. We can be reached at 562-762-8853 or [email protected]

REGION 1 // AZ, CA, CO, NM, NV, UT

Region Directors :: Marty & Marion Marcum (17221)

ARIZONA Greeting from Arizona, as many of you know the weather in Arizona this year has not been the greatest. Where did the season go? We have been busy with some doctor appointments but seems like we just got here for the winter. We are now only weeks from leaving for our spring and summer travels.

We are looking forward to the Sun Catchers rally in Lake Havasu. This will be the start of our travels north and east. We are looking forward to seeing family and friends there.

Ted & I would like to take this time to thank all our wonderful friends and volunteers that helped us at the Gathering in Quartzsite in January. We had about 120 coaches and it amazes us how the Gathering grows larger each year. We have found that nearly half of rally attendees are first timers! This is great for all of us and with that as we get bigger, we are trying to do things easier. We are working on next year’s Gathering already. Currently, we are looking for a couple more host couples to assist us in Q. If you would be interested, please let us know.

We will miss seeing all of you in Syracuse in October as we will be hosting the Balloon Fiesta again in Albuquerque in October. We are looking forward to meeting the 25 couples who registered.

In closing, we are working on the 2019 Arizona State Rally for late November or early December in Tucson. Have a great spring and drive safe.Ted and Ruth Ann Hindes (19361)Arizona State [email protected]

ARIZONA SUN CATCHERS The Arizona Sun Catchers are winding up an awesome spring. The cool weather has been appreciated by all and now we are planning for the summer adventures.

Our April Rally in Lake Havasu will be concluding as this report becomes available to read but I can tell you that we filled up before the February 1 deadline and had a few wait list registrants. However, with a last-minute cancellation or two we were able to fit everybody in. Life is good! Speaking of good, at the top of the enjoyment meter will have been the Saturday boat tour through the Top Rock Gorge. We are truly blessed! THANKS TO ALL FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION AND HELP WITH OUR RALLY. A more complete review will follow in the next report along with news on our new slate of officers.

Please remember to look at the Newmar Kountry Klub Calendar for upcoming events and register early, especially for the International Rally coming up in September.

Well, here is wishing you blue skies and happy trails in all your travels. Chuck and Judi Reading (16581)Presidents 623-377-6249 or 414-915-9376

From Lake Mead we are now in route to Lake Havasu for the Arizona Sun Catchers Rally and we can’t wait, it really sounds like fun.

The end of April brings the 49er’s Rally back to Paso Robles with a fun party atmosphere hosted by Jan & Cheryl Freeman and the 49er chapter officers. May then brings us the Region 1 Rally in Pahrump, Nevada as well as the California State Rally in Jackson, California. Wow! I think we will be needing a rally respite in June!

I’m truly excited to tell you all that our call to arms has been answered. We now have new presidents and vice presidents for the Golden Bears. Roger & Sandra Hartsock, (22759), have taken over the reins from Max & Penny Nuttall while Chuck & Kathy Wilson, (22462), are taking over the vice presidency from Dalton & Janice Bilberry. WELCOME to the Hartsock’s and the Wilson’s and many thanks for to the Nuttall’s and Bilberry’s for their years of service to our membership in the Newmar Kountry Klub. I’m sure the transition will be sooth as they have Tom and Vickie Reed continuing as the secretary/treasurer to share their expertise.

The Golden Bears have already set a date for the 2019 rally. It will be October 28-31 in Plymouth, California. Let’s all help them make their first rally a great success.

I do hope that many of you are working on your travel plans to attend the NKK International Rally in late September in Syracuse, New York. For Mary & I, this will be the furthest east we will have traveled in our RV and we are very excited. I’m thinking that along our way east we’ll stop in Nappanee and definitely stop in Canton, Ohio at the Professional Football Hall of Fame as well as visits with NKK friends we’ve made in our travels with the Klub along the way.

See you down the road,Larry and Mary Roberts (21041)California State [email protected]

CALIFORNIA 49ERSWe just returned after a month in Australia and New Zealand! We started in Queenstown, New Zealand (Jay Bungee Jumped off the famous Kawarau Bridge) and ended our trip in Cairns, Australia (the Great Barrier Reef where we scuba dived for three days). Wow…everything was so beautiful! But we really missed home and our Newmar!

We’re so excited with our upcoming California 49ers Rally in Paso Robles, California starting April 23rd and ending the 26th. We have a ton planned with our 2nd annual Korn Hole Tournament hosted by Hal & Lynda Stone, Old Fashion Game Night hosted by Steve & Brenda Resnick, a wonderful BBQ dinner with an incredible band hosted by Tom Lindstrom RV and various seminars! So much fun to be had during this rally! We look forward to seeing all of you soon!

CALIFORNIA GOLDEN AIRES Greetings from Southern California, the California Golden Aires chapter rally held in January in Indio, California was a great success thanks to all of you that attend. We had 46 coaches attend this year. Four new members signed up with our chapter. Leah & I would like to thank our energetic Vice Presidents, Bob & Teresa Billings, and all our step-up volunteers for helping to feed over 100 people. Again, we would like to thank Tom Lindstrom RV for their generous contribution. Holland RV invited us to their Indio dealership for a tour of their facility. They also provided a nice pizza lunch for us.

After leaving Indio, many of us attended the Gathering in The Desert. This was our first-time boondocking with the group. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed the whole experience while making new friends. We will be back next year for sure. The rally hosts Ted & Ruth Hindes did a fantastic job as usual.

Tech Tip: If you have florescent lighting in your coach, and are having issues with your Fridge control and or your heat pump air-conditioning units and your shop hasn’t been able to trouble shoot the issue, consider changing out your florescent lighting to LEDs. I have a 2011 Canyon Star that came with those issues. After hours in a shop and on my own trying to figure it out, a suggestion from a parts house worked! Easy to do and I’m using less energy. Turns out it wasn’t my wife or grandson turning off my fridge.Roger and Sandi Hartsock (22759)[email protected]

NEVADA It has been a busy winter and early spring for us. We were pleased and honored to be at the ribbon cutting for the new National Indoor RV Center in the Las Vegas Valley. Their facility

is just off Interstate 15 north of Las Vegas. As we travel, it is always good to know the locat ion o f a dependable RV repair facility. We believe that NIRVCs have earned our trust.

NEVADA MOTHER LODE It was a busy winter season into spring. Spent time to catch up with some other Newmar KK owners in Lake Havasu, Quartzsite and Yuma, Arizona. We loved the beautiful sunsets and learned that with a black light the scorpions on the rocks near our coach glowed neon. Enjoy the pictures. A funny coincidence while waiting to go for a Polar plunge into Lake Havasu we ran into another NKK couple we had met in Nappanee in the summer! What a great group of owners we get to enjoy. The gathering in the desert was another great year of fun.

Enjoying the NKK life with Nevada State Rally and Sun Catcher’s Rally in our travels. We are very excited to be hosting the Mother Lode Chapter Rally in conjunction with Hot August Nights, the premier auto show on the West Coast! If you are a classic car or truck enthusiast this is a must do event. Rally is August 8-11, at Carson Valley RV Park, Gardnerville, Nevada. We will go as a charter group to the event and see several different venues of cars, trucks and enjoy a variety

Punxsutawney Phil has spoken! He predicted an early spring. That’s good news for our region since the region has experienced ‘snowmageddon’ this winter! Some places in Washington received a full winter’s average snowfall in just 2 days! There are few things sadder than seeing a beautiful Newmar coach covered

in snow instead of being out camping.

Fortunately, we managed to get to the Golden Aires rally in Indio, California in early January without any adverse weather. Had a great time and got to meet some nice people from our region. Jerry & Jinny Andres were there along with Burl & Maureen Todd and Mike & Linda Waller.

So now we have April showers to look forward to, then May flowers. That can only mean it’s time to start getting the coaches ready for another camping season if you stayed behind this winter. If you’re down south like we’ve been, it’s time to start heading back north.

And we’re doing just that. After attending the Nevada State Rally in late March, we are heading back to Idaho. First stop is Caldwell, Idaho to finalize details for our Region 2 Rally from June 2 – 6.

Our region is holding 3 rallies this summer, the Region 2 Rally in Caldwell, the Evergreen Aires Chapter Rally in Clarkston, Washington from June 10-14, and then the Washington State Rally in Oak Harbor, Washington from August 11-15. We hope to see you at one of these rallies!

REGION 2 // AK, ID, MT, OR, WA, WY

Region Directors :: Mark & Lesleyanne Weiss (21042)

We also have 5 SPURs (Simple Pop Up Rallies) planned for our trip though the region this summer. The first two are on the calendar. The first one will be at the Southern Oregon Campground in Central Point, Oregon from May 3-6. The next one will be at Bend/Sisters Garden RV Park in Bend, Oregon from May 17 – 20. As is the case with all SPURs, just call the park, reserve a site and let us know you’re coming by registering or emailing us at [email protected]. There is no cost and no agenda. Just a couple of days enjoying your fellow NKK members and doing some activities in the area.

We will also be hosting SPURs in Washington, Montana and Wyoming although the specific dates for these are yet to be determined. Stay tuned to the June Konnection magazine and keep checking the NKK calendar. We will also be publishing the details on the Region 2 Facebook page, so, if you haven’t joined, check us out. Just search for ‘Newmar Kountry Klub Region 2’, answer a couple of questions and request to join!

Please feel free to plan your own SPURs. The more, the merrier! If you plan one in Region 2, let us know the date and place and we’ll publish it on the calendar, the Facebook page or in the Konnection if we receive it in time. Just plan an easy meal for the first night, then get together and find some fun things to do in the area. Mostly just have fun enjoying the company of your fellow RVers.

As much as we hate to brag (actually, we don’t hate it at all), we have some very talented people in our region. Several are working on a region flag that we can use at rallies, or just when we’re camping, to identify us as proud members of Region 2. Others are working on a catchy tune to help promote SPURs and region 2 in general.

Finally, we are looking for some enthusiastic ‘RVers’ to rekindle some of our dormant chapters. All it takes is you and 5 of your friends to get a chapter started again. In many cases, there is still money left from when the chapter went dormant that can be used to help get the chapter going again.

The following chapters would love to be revived; Alaska – ‘North Kountry Polar B’Aires’, Oregon - ‘Pioneers’, Idaho - ‘Spudnuts’, Montana - ‘Big Sky Kountry Klub’ and in Wyoming - ‘Cowboy Kountry Klub’. If you have an interest is re-starting any of these chapters, please let us know and we’ll make plans to get together when we’re in your state. It’s not difficult to get one restarted and we’ll be there with you every step to getting organized!

So start getting those coaches ready for the camping season or head back north from your winter haven in the south. Punxsutawney Phil can’t be wrong. Spring is on the way!

We can be reached at [email protected]. See you down the road!

WASHINGTONFor those snowbirds that went south for the winter you can consider yourself lucky. For those of us that stayed in Washington for the winter, it was a very different story, especially during February. Doesn’t matter which side of the state you live in, you endured a February like no other. Washington’s winter was very interesting. January was the warmest and driest on record

Page 23: PO Box 30, Nappanee, IN 46550 | … · 4/4/2019  · class and dinner on the first evening of class is included in the class cost. IMPORTANT NOTICE: You must be registered to attend

and February the coldest on record. As mentioned in our last submission we put the Ventana inside for the winter back in November. Well, the cover on our RV garage blew away leaving only the metal frame during the first winter windstorm that packed 60 mph winds. Lucky for us we had taken the Ventana in for its annual oil change just days before the storm and so it was not damaged. Follow that with two weeks of extreme cold and snow that kept us locked in the house for a week until we hired a tractor to dig us out of the snow drifts. March found snow still on the ground and we found ourselves always expecting more.

However, now we get to look on the bright side as it is time to take the Newmar out, stretch her legs, and get moving. And moving we shall do…….

We are looking forward to the Region 2 rally in June in Idaho. Looks like Mark and Lesleyanne have some really fun things planned for us to do.

The Washington State Rally is scheduled for August 11-15 on beautiful Whidbey Island. It is on the NKK calendar and we are taking reservations. We have an optional whale watching cruise on the schedule and per the last report, the legislature is relaxing the original regulations they proposed for the whale watching industry. Thus, we are looking forward to enjoying a great day on the water cruising the San Juan Islands taking in the breathtaking views and watching the whales. On the menu for the first evening is a hamburger feed and the last evening meal will be a pot luck. Other meals will be catered by “Sho Nuff” southern BBQ catering. There are lots of interesting places to see and explore in the Anacortes, Oak Harbor area so make you reservation now for this rally. We only have 20 spaces and closing date is May 31st.

It won’t be long now before we see you down the road. Blessings for safe journeys,Ben and Donna Barker (20884)Washington State Directors

EVERGREEN AIRESThe Evergreen Aires rally in Clarkston, Washington is coming up June 10-14. If you haven’t registered for it yet now is the time to do it. Clarkston, Washington is right across the river from Lewiston, Idaho and easily accessible for anyone heading north or exploring the great Pacific Northwest this year.

For those of you that are adventurous, this rally is offering an optional jet boat experience on the Snake River. It’s a scenic tour through parts of Hell’s Canyon for those of us that like a little thrill now and then!

The Evergreen Aires are always looking for new members, so if you haven’t joined this Washington Chapter yet, it would be a good time to meet some new people with similar interests and have a good time doing it.

Happy Trails, Ben and Donna Barker (20884)Washington State Directors

We hope everyone had a good winter and that you are ready for the upcoming rallies this spring. On Valentine’s Day, our Okie Kountry Klub president and secretary, Lee & Nancy Allen, hosted a special dinner at Charleston Restaurant in Oklahoma City. It was well

attended with 20 people participating. The food was great. The service was good. And the company could not have been better. Special chocolate treats were handed out at the end of the dinner. Yum, yum. Thank you Lee & Nancy for a wonderful evening. We are looking forward to seeing many of you at the Region 3 Rally in Fredericksburg, Texas, and the Oklahoma State Rally in Weatherford. Unfortunately, we will miss the other state rallies in Region 3 because we will be leaving in mid-May to travel to Edmonton where we will begin the Newmar Special Event trip to Alaska and Canada. Patsy & I will serve as wagonmasters, and Jerry & Phyllis Rose will be the tailgunners. Although we cannot attend the other state rallies, we know they will be well planned and that everyone will have a great time. Remember, you can attend any of the Newmar rallies. You are not limited to the state in which you live.

Speaking of special events, we wanted to share with you how much fun we had as the hosts for the Christmas in Branson Special Event in Branson, Missouri. People from all over the United States came to mid-America in November. Twenty-one couples from 16 different states, including California, Florida, New York, and Texas, were represented. The different accents and personalities seemed to make a perfect blend. We made many new friends. For many of them, it was the first Newmar event they had ever attended. It was a fast-paced week of entertainment and dining opportunities. There was something for everyone, and it seems like everyone had a different favorite. We will again be hosting

Christmas in Branson this coming November. Sign up early. This special event usually sells out. Until next time, God Bless and Travel Safe!

ARKANSASHello to all! Ruth Ann & I returned from a fun-filled 30-day trip to South Texas. We got our fill of “TexMex”, trips across the border, flea markets, and even a Dolphin Cruise! I have to tell you, the Dolphin Cruise was a hoot! We got to see those magnificent water mammals swim right in front of our spacious boat! It was explained to us, the dolphins had learned to “hitch a ride” by positioning themselves in front of the boat, capturing the front wake and allowing it to propel them straight forward. Doing that, they got to show off and hitch a ride to their feeding grounds! Every so often, they’d jump out of the water, doing their familiar “nose plunges”! The weather, after we had been there several days, warmed up and we enjoyed some really spring-like days; a fabulous treat after leaving the cold and rainy stuff back home! Over-all, we spent a really nice month down there!

NEWMAR ARKANSAS STATE/BUDDY RALLY. It’s called a “Buddy Rally” because that’s what it is! Anyone owning an RV is encouraged to attend! KANSASAs Sherry & I write this April Konnection article, March will soon be upon us and we will be returning home to Kansas for a few weeks before heading back to Fredericksburg, Texas for the Region 3 Rally. I know several of our Kansas Kountry Sunflowers chapter members plan to attend, and we are sure Larry & Patsy Wood have a fun rally planned. During our time in South Texas we attended the January and February Texas Rio Grand Valley Newmar Luncheon. We get the chance to see Newmar owners at this gathering that we wouldn’t have the opportunity to see otherwise. Thank you to Rose Holschlag for organizing this event. She has been hosting this luncheon for several years now and is looking for someone who would be willing to take over in the future. If you would like to discuss this with her, her number is 954-579-7794. The first rally coming up for the Kansas Kountry Sunflowers chapter is May 30-June 2 at Milford State Park, hosted by Randy & Anna Landreville. The second rally is June 20-23 at Mill Creek Campground at Paxico, hosted by Brad & Alice Elkins. A reminder that the Kansas State Rally at South

We look forward to seeing you at a Newmar Kountry Klub event during 2019.Larry and Sherry DeWitt (11440-L)Kansas State Directors MISSOURIWe will soon begin our new year with several great rallies planned; so we won’t be bored for sure. We hope everyone has survived this unusually harsh winter and look forward to a beautiful spring time where ever your travels take you. We will be in the hill country of Texas for the Region 3 Rally and then in Carthage, Missouri at Coachlight RV for our beginning Mid Mo Wanderlust’s spring rally. Always a great time with Marty Lown and hosts Jerry & Lil Oler. We are going to be busy when we return home trying to finish details, restaurants, and activities for our June Missouri State Rally. Be sure to check the ad in the Konnection and in the issue for details. As always safe travels until we meet again. Mike and Judy Ward (19332)Missouri State Directors OklahomaHowdy everyone from the great state of Oklahoma! We sincerely hope all had a good winter and we hope the snowbirds are all back in their nest. Now it’s time for spring, summer and fall travel! We are extremely excited and a little apprehensive in that we are hosting our first State Rally April 25-28. We hope to see as many as possible there. The rally is being held at the new Wanderlust Crossing Resort in Weatherford, Oklahoma that is owned by Kountry Klub members Rusty & Jamie Whitson. This place is amazing and includes all the modern amenities including storm shelters and a dog wash! This rally is jam-packed with seminars, tours and of course lots of food. We will be hearing from Troopers with the DOT section of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and also agents with the Oklahoma Department of Homeland Security. Both of these events will be very informative as we learn things we should know while traveling across our great country. We will be visiting the Tom Stafford Air and Space Museum that is an incredible place dedicated to one of Oklahoma’s astronauts. In addition to several items used by Stafford, there are airplanes, rockets and stories with video clips. We will also be visiting the Heartland of America Museum where you can see artifacts from the late 1800’s through 1950’s as you walk through exhibits and other theme buildings. There will be several new units on display from Leisure Time RV, Oklahoma City, along with techs to discuss and hopefully solve any issues or questions about our coaches. Thanks to Leisure Time and sales manager Don Walker for his support and donations to the Kountry Klub!

We hope to see everyone, not only at our rally, but at the Region 3 Rally at the Vineyards in Fredericksburg, Texas, on April 15-19. Larry & Patsy Wood, our Regional Directors, have a great time planned for us, as always. We are excited to have new members joining us this year and hope to see them in upcoming rallies! Please travel safely and have an exciting year of traveling. Don’t forget about Syracuse in September!! Happy Trails,Bill and June Aduddell (21490)Oklahoma State Directors

TEXASHello Newmar family, we want to thank you for this opportunity to serve as your new Texas State Directors. We want to recognize Jim & Jane Thomas for the great job that they did as the Texas State Directors. Under their leadership this group has seen some great growth and we all say “thank you” to you both for the hard work that you have done for this group over the last couple of years. We are Randall & Kathleen Haydon and live in Brock, Texas. I am a native Texan and Kathleen was born and raised in Wyoming, but has been in Texas since her college days at Tarleton State University. We raise Beefmaster cattle, quarter horses and our Jack Russell terriers rule the family. I know that some of you can relate to this, we can’t get the coach out of the barn without these dogs wanting to load up and assume their co-pilot positions. Kathleen & I have been actively involved in the Newmar Kountry Klub for about six years now and have been the Kountry Lone Stars President for the last two years. We try to spend as much time on the road and with our RV friends as we can. Our situation is a little different than most in these roles as I still have a full time job. But, we did manage to put over 20,000 miles on our coach last year so we do not let that slow us down. I hope that everyone has had a great winter and now that the spring rally season is upon us, has their coach ready to hit the road for the busy spring and summer travel season. We have watched this Texas chapter experience large growth over the last few years and we couldn’t be more proud of that. When Kathleen & I attended our first rally, there were 12 rigs in attendance, and that was a Texas State Rally. Boy have things changed for the better. It’s amazing what a good economy will do for the RV business and this lifestyle. We now have at least 25 rigs at each rally. I would like to invite everyone in the great state of Texas that has yet to experience one of our rallies, to do so. You will find the best people around and you already have a common interest, NEWMAR! We look forward to meeting each of you somewhere down the road,Randall and Kathleen Haydon (20196)Texas State Directors

The Region 4 Rally is in Illinois this year at Rock Island KOA September 9-12. Then we’re off to Syracuse, New York. Our region is in charge of Arts and Crafts again this year, so start planning to bring your wares, or just stop by to see the talents of our Klub members. We have enjoyed our Newmar Luncheons in Texas this winter, and a big thank you to Richard & Rose Holschlag. We’ve had a discussion about Diamond Shield, and yet to be resolved. Marty from Coachlight RV was there last month, and reports that the new facility at Newmar is spectacular. Another improvement has been the Newmar website. If you haven’t been on lately, it’s worth a look. Travel safe!Richard and Donna Ritchie (16254)Illinois State DirectorsDonna 847-804-4274Rich [email protected]

ILLINOISHappy Spring! The weather this winter has been different for most of us at home and in our warmer locations as well. Since Easter is later in the month this year, people are heading home early to be with family. We just need to get home and regroup so we can hit the road for graduations and rallies. We used to be satisfied that our family all lived in the same time zone, but now it wouldn’t be a bad idea if they all lived in the same state. Our Southern Rally, IKK, is June 6-9 in Mil Shoals, Illinois at Charlene & Don Glover’s farm. Then in July we are doing a joint rally with Iowa. This is July 24-28 at the Iowa Speedway for the Infinity Race on the 27th. We’re looking forward to a change in pace, and tickets had to be purchased in 2018.

WISCONSINHappy Easter and Happy Mother’s Day! As you’re reading this article, we hope you have made your reservations for our State Rally and the July and August Northern Aires Chapter rallies. If not, make your reservations soon as the rally hosts need to know who’s attending for their planning efforts. Please join us at the rallies, we need everyone’s support by joining us at the rallies, it becomes disappointing for the hosts to not have you attend. It takes considerable efforts to host a rally and to take the time to make it interesting with activities for your enjoyment, just to have a small number turn out. So, it’s time to make your plans and attend these rallies.

Our State Rally is June 13-17 at Fountain Lake RV Campground at Almond, Wisconsin. You need to contact us for your reservations and the payment of the rally fees along with your disclaimer form. We will be enjoying some of the activities at the Strawberry Fest in Waupaca. Some of the activities at this event include a downtown art/craft event with over 100 vendors, Strawberry Shortcake for your enjoyment at $3.00, live entertainment, great food, model railroad display and the old railroad depot along with FRESH STRAWBERRIES for your enjoyment. There is also a special event at Turner’s Farm Market for Father’s Day for the Dad’s. So, make your plans to join us for a great time, we have full hookups with 50-amp power, a building for dry events at the campground with free firewood for our enjoyment. All of your breakfast and dinner meals will be provided in the rally fee’s other than our optional dinner out.

The July Chapter Rally is being held on the 16-19 at the Kewaunee RV & Campground. If you haven’t made your reservation yet, please do so as soon as possible. This is a nice area along the shores of Lake Michigan and it’s a new location for your enjoyment. Please support the host’s efforts and join us at the rally.

On August 14-17 we will be holding a dry camping rally at Bark River, Michigan. Please review the calendar of events for information on making your reservation. We have about 240 acres to camp on, so we have room for all that would like to join us. We will be attending the UP-State Fair in Escanaba for many of the activities, which include some of the following activities. Grand Stand shows which are included in your daily gate fees, one day is Senior Citizen Day with a $5.00 gate fee, another day is Native American day with dancing, singing and feasting of food, one day is lady’s day with special activities for the ladies, antique car show, and another day is agriculture day. Each day there are Grand Stand shows for your enjoyment, which includes all the different types of music for your enjoyment. We may also have some additional activities that aren’t related to the fair, so more to come on that. We would also invite other Klub members from Michigan to join us, we currently have several Michigan members in the Wisconsin Northern Aires.

You don’t have to be a member of the Wisconsin Northern Aires Chapter to join us at a rally, so give us a try. I think you would enjoy your time with us, we have a very friendly membership and always find interesting things to discuss or do while at the rally along with planned tours at many of the rallies.

We wish Safe Travels to those who might be traveling this time of the year. We had a very wet and cool winter in Apache Junction this winter, maybe next year it will be back to normalTerry and Pat Bengtson (10831)Wisconsin State DirectorsTerry’s cell; 480-215-1496Pat’s cell; 480-262-0432e-mail; [email protected]

Wanda and I want to start off by giving all of our Tampa Super Show volunteers a great big thanks. The early arrival team worked tirelessly laying out the area for the big day of parking. Those coming in on Monday to help with parking and registration did an awesome job as well. I hesitate to try and name each individual for fear of

leaving someone out.

I do want to give a big special thanks to Charlie & Deane Grebinger. They have had the duty of preparing attendees in the staging area for entry into the parking area for at least the last 6 years or longer. They have been full timers but have bought a home and are putting the coach up for sale. Carl & Gayle Webber were in training this year to attempt to follow in the Grebinger’s footsteps. I have all the confidence that they will do a great job. Please notice the picture of the passing of the famous stop sign.

On Monday afternoon all the volunteers go on a trial run of parking day. Each person has a glimpse of the duties that each volunteer is tasked with. This is from the time rigs come off of MLK Boulevard to the final parking location. One of the positions is being a traffic guide. Please see the photo of Donna Jones when I told her that she had to stop incoming rigs and cross traffic. I told her that her job was to prevent accidents and that laying down on the job probably would not get it done.

I also want to thank all of those that just stepped up to help in the tent setting up morning coffee and doughnuts and the Klub Store. Last but not least, all of the attendees for supporting the event and making it a success.

Please check out the ad for the 2019 Region 5 Rally in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The Lakewood Campground is a very nice facility. Come prepared to take a swim in their indoor heated pool or just take a stroll on the beach. Myrtle Beach has two Tanger Outlet Malls. There are optional activities: The Carolina Opry that always is rated tops in entertainment. The Legends Theater featuring Elvis, The Blues Brothers, Johnny Cash, Barry White, and Whitney Houston, among a few of the performers. This is a great show. Your registration will include tickets to the

Little River Shrimp Festival for great food, entertainment, and over 250 arts and crafts vendors. We will take a boat ride to the festival dropping us off at the Little River riverfront. Your registration will also include three breakfast and three dinner meals. We have 75 sites this year. Registration will include your campsite for 5 nights. Please go online to the Calendar of Events to register. Oh’ Greg Harrop is going to have a golf outing with prizes to the winning team.

This spring brings many opportunities for you to rally with friends and make new friends along the way. Check out all of the state rallies on the website. Some of the rallies are full but call the host to be placed on a waiting list.

Don’t forget to register for the International Rally in Syracuse, New York – this will open up on Monday, April 15th at 8am eastern time on the Klub’s website. I have not been in that area before but I am told that it is beautiful in October. We should hear soon as to who will be traveling with Bob & Bonnie as our 2020 International Directors. The NKK will open a new chapter as we move forward. Pray for the right persons to be appointed and for them as they begin their new service to the Klub.

The Newmar Kountry Klub is an awesome social Klub. If you are not involved, you are missing out on a blessing. We can be reached at [email protected].

FLORIDAWell it has been an eventful few months! Margie and I missed the February & March Manatees Rallies as well as the Sea Turtles Rally due to some health issues, but things are definitely on the upswing! We have, however, missed the fellowship of those rallies.

We are looking forward to hosting our first Florida State Rally in Punta Gorda, Florida. With 42, great looking Newmar coaches signed up to be there, that means seeing lots of old friends and new friends. We have lots of fun lined up for everyone, so see you there! Margie & I WELCOME the new members and hope you enjoy the fun and fellowship that awaits you!

Don’t forget to check out all the NKK Facebook pages of all the Regions and Chapters. We encourage y’all to join in the conversations, pass on tips and your travel exploits. And don’t forget to Volunteer at Local, State, Region and International Rallies. What a great way to enjoy and experience Newmar Kountry Klub and the best of all, “Making New Friends Along the Way”.

Some of you will be heading back North and some of you will be heading out on your summer travels so we would like to take this time to wish you Safe Travels and Happy Trails to You, Until we Meet Again. Hopefully, that will be in Syracuse at the International Rally.

Remember, “The best part of any journey is the people we meet along the way”.Greg and Margie Harrop (20694)Florida State DirectorsEmail: [email protected]’s cell: 954-914-8335

FLORIDA MANATEESNow that the winter holidays are past, we can start to think spring. But in Florida who really knows when one season ends

and another begins? Easter this year will be about as late as it can be, April 21. Did you know that it can occur on any Sunday between March 22 and April 25? So, this year’s date of April 21 is almost as late as it can be. Maybe that’s a good thing.

Rosemary & I did not get to the Tampa Super Show Rally, however Gene Parker commented that it was very well attended. He said the weather was a little cool to begin, but warmed up nicely. He was pleased to learn there were 200 Newmar coaches in the Newmar section, and 800 various makes altogether in attendance. That means that Newmar had 25% of the total attending. We understand that Newmar is turning out 11 coaches a day and that the company now manufactures 19.6% of all diesel coaches built in the U.S. Newmar was certainly well represented by bringing 51 coaches for display. The 20 technical people sent by Newmar were a big hit with everyone and certainly appreciated, as the first hour labor was free. The volunteers who helped with parking and registration did an outstanding job in getting everyone parked and registered quickly and efficiently. Vice President Rolf Kuhns gave an overview of the Florida Manatees and our upcoming rallies and there were over 100 people attending the Florida social given by our Florida State Directors Greg & Margie Harrop. The entertainment was exceptionally well done but unfortunately not too well attended. The show is growing every year so it may be necessary to get an early reservation next year.

We’ve sent letters to all the new coach owners in Florida. So, if you are reading this and did not receive a letter, please accept our congratulations on your purchase as well as personal invitation to join the Florida Manatees.

Our rally at the Clerbrook Resort was well attended with 16 coaches. We visited the Citrus Tower, which was built in 1956 as a monumental tribute to the citrus industry. At that time from the top, you could see citrus trees in every direction and as far as you could see. Today there are a few citrus trees but you can see roof tops in every direction and as far as you could see. We also visited the President’s Hall of Fame, which has wax figures of all the Presidents. We were intrigued with a large model of the White House complete in every detail, even including all the interior furniture. This model has been shipped to every U.S. State for display and to many foreign countries. There was so much food; we were able to have free lunches on two days instead of going out for lunch as planned. Rosemary, a Texan, made her now famous Texas chili, (not too hot and not too mild, but just right!) at least that’s what I thought, and I think others felt the same because there wasn’t a bean left. Gene Parker & Pat Garrison as hosts for the rally did an excellent job in putting things together.

I’m sure you are reading this after the Okeechobee rally has become history, but as of this writing, we’re still looking forward to an excellent time and the spots have been taken. Bill & Eileen Berg, the hosts will have to outdo our Clerbrook event, but they are up to the job and we’re expecting a great time.

Of course, we’re looking forward to the April State Rally in Punta Gorda, hosted by our new State Directors, Greg & Margie Harrop. Don’t forget to also sign up for the International Rally in Syracuse, NY See you there!Bill and Rosemary Lumsden (21440)[email protected]

FLORIDA PELICANSWell this is my first article as point man for the Pelicans. My wife

Connie & I are the charter members of the Pelicans having joined in 2001. We both have held various officer positions totaling 10 years, Connie having been a former secretary/treasurer and president. Needless to say, we have really enjoyed the Klub and the people that have resulted in lifetime friendships. As the incoming president I am proud to have Roger Mercier, also a charter member as our vice president and Gerry Smith as our secretary/treasurer. Bea Hamor, the member’s thank you for your 4 years of leadership of the Pelicans.

Now, moving on…The Florida Pelicans started 2019 with a great turnout for our January Super Show Rally in Tampa, Florida. We had 15 coaches in our cluster at camp Newmar. Everyone pitches in and takes part in being responsible for one day’s activity. Mostly sampling all the local restaurants. The weather was good, the parking and activities well-coordinated. Thanks much to Gary Smith, Greg Harrop and crew.

Our February activity was held at the Laugh In Comedy Café, attending Comedy for a Cause. The proceeds benefit the Susan Marie Scleroderma Foundation. We had a sellout crowd of 200 and the Foundation is most grateful for the ongoing Pelican support.

March, of course, found the flock at the Strawberry Festival in Plant City enjoying in season shortcakes and the wide variety of entertainment available each day. This rally was hosted by Pat Hartman. Thank you, Pat, for taking this on each year.

Come April the Pelicans are sure to have a great time at the State Rally in Punta Gorda, our back yard. Thanks to Greg & Margie Harrop for the good time had by all. Immediately following the State Rally many Pelicans will head slightly south to Naples for our Farewell Rally at the Neapolitan Cove RV Resort, and hosted by Andy & Bea Hamor and assisted by Ronnie Jones & Sharon Libby Jones to say our goodbyes for the summer, as some of us migrate North, East and West until fall.

As the new President of the Pelicans I am excited in seeing this chapter grow in membership and friendships. I love seeing that long list of new NKK owners showing up in every publication of the Konnection. Our aim is to reach out to those of you that reside in our area, which reaches from Sarasota south to the Florida Keys. Our membership chair is Pat Hartman. She can be reached on 239-470-1074. If you are reading this article and we have missed contacting you, or as in many cases your residence is up north but you spend your winters in the area, we heartedly invite you to join the chapter.

Lastly, our Pelicans have a Luncheon on the 3rd Monday of each month at selected restaurants in the area. We also assist Ron & Wanda Llewellyn as they host an NKK luncheon on the 3rd Tuesday of the winter months at the Fort Myers Golden Corral…As they say “Don’t go it alone, Join us”Until then, Happy Trails by Newmar to AllTim Buchholz (12344)President [email protected]: 239-464-0219

FLORIDA SEA TURTLESWow! Can you believe winter is over and spring has sprung? Our rally season is over, and looking forward to summer travels. We attended the Sea Turtles rally in February. A great time was had by all. We took a monster truck ride through the orange groves, cattle heard, and swamp. We also toured the wood shop at Clerbrook RV Resort, and saw some beautiful work. This tour was conducted by Everett Israel, who showed us how a lot of the projects were done.

By this time our Savannah rally and Florida State rally will be history, I’m sure a great time was had by all. Looking forward to summer travels. Hope to see everyone at the International Rally.

Safe travels.Kenneth Griffin (10680)[email protected] 256-762-0982

MID SOUTH TRI-STATE (GA-AL-MS)Due to some water damage at home we missed the Tampa Super Show this year. Good news is that we have most of the repairs completed and are ready to get back on the road again. As this is written our next rally to attend will be the Newmar International of FMCA to be held in Americus, Georgia from March 8-11.

We have been working on our Tri-State Rally to be held in Gulf Shores, Alabama May 1-5. This rally is being held during the Gulf Shores Balloon Festival in Foley, Alabama. All rally attendees will have VIP tent and parking passes furnished at the festival. As of this writing the rally has sold out with twenty-five coaches registered to attend. We do have a waiting list started for those that are interested.

Then we’re off to the Tennessee State Rally June 9-13 in Southaven, Mississippi. We have a Newmar dealer in Southaven that we are looking forward to meeting.

July 4th we will be home for a family reunion with all seven grandkids attending.

July 22 we will be attending the Peach State Krackers Rally held in Hiawassee, Georgia during the Georgia Mountain Fair. We will be attending the nightly concerts at Anderson Music Hall. Thanks to Bill Stanley & Donna Jones for hosting and Wayne & Carole Keith for co-hosting. This looks to be a great event. This campground sells out early every year so make your reservations now.

We will be off to International in September and down to Myrtle Beach in October for the Region 5 Rally. We’re bound to see many of our NKK friends along the way. Can’t wait to see everyone!

PEACH STATE KRACKERS Bill & I started the year off by attending the Tampa Super Show and assisting with parking of 200 motorhomes. What a great turn out! Many spent the week attending seminars, admiring the new coaches and parading through the tremendous amount of vendor booths. It was a time of getting together with old friends and meeting new friends as well.

We attended the Sea Turtle Rally at Clerbrook RV & Golf Resort in Clermont, FL February 8-11. Twenty of us took a Monster Truck Off-Road Eco-Tour of 45 minutes through Florida citrus groves and swampland, where there is known to be gators, poisonous snakes and snapping turtles. Showcase of Citrus claims their truck is the World’s Largest 4 x 4 Monster Truck. Self-guided citrus picking was also available. The group enjoyed good food, games and plenty of fellowship. The hosts, Jim & Pat Leiss and Rolf & Anne Kuhns did an excellent job in putting this rally together.

Then we were off to the Freightliner Chassis Owner’s Club Rally (FCOC) in Seffner, FL at Lazy Days RV Resort February 13-17. This was our first FCOC Rally and also our first stay at Lazy Days RV Resort. We enjoyed both very much. The ladies took an afternoon trip to Parksdale Farm Market in Plant City for the well-known Strawberry Shortcake and also got together one morning to make a Mardi Gras Mask. Seminars were held during the rally to educate owners on the maintenance of their motorhomes. Professional entertainment was provided one night by Singing Impressionist Eric Kearns, Voices of Legends. We will attend this rally again if there is one near our destination.

Bill & I are now back home and making plans for the July Summerfest Rally we are hosting. The rally will be held in the beautiful mountains of North Georgia in Hiawassee at River Bend Campground July 22-26. The rally is being held in conjunction with the annual Georgia Mountain Fair. Rally information is available on the NKK website.

Safe travels.Donna Jones (20599)Vice-President

CAROLINA’S (NC – SC)Well, the new year seems to be moving way too fast for us!! Unfortunately, we missed the Tampa Super Show for the first time in many years, as Philip had a fall in December at our end of the year Christmas rally. On top of that he ended up with a cold that turned into Pneumonia way too quickly. When it was time to leave for Florida and the Super Show, he was unable to travel. He is slowly gaining his energy and strength back and is doing well now!

The South Carolina/North Carolina Chapters will hold their annual luncheon April 3, we hope it will be well attended and the food is always great! Thanks to Jim & Carla Miller for hosting the event and making the arrangements.

The Carolinas, (NC/SC) will hold its annual Spring State Rally at the Iron City Campground in Blacksburg, South Carolina, April 23-26. We are sold out with our 20 RV’s (40) members attending from Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Florida. It will be a fun group!

Attendees will start the rally off with a welcome social and some good food on Tuesday the 23rd. Our second day will start with a breakfast at the Cooley Farm Café, after breakfast we will move over to the Coolly Farm for a great guided tour of the strawberry fields. A nice treat at the end of our tour will be home made fresh strawberry ice cream and a pint of fresh Strawberries for each of us to take back to the RV. We will end the evening with a nice dinner and some fun!!

Day 2 will start with a Breakfast provided by Sky Med and Rob & Sherry Krajicek. After breakfast we will carpool to the BMW Plant in Greer, South Carolina for our guided walking tour. The tour is one mile in walking distance, Wow! What an awesome tour this will be. Then we will be bused to the Zentrum Museum, this tour

will be an interesting place to visit! We ended the day with a great dinner and some fun!

Day 3 starts off with breakfast at Cracker Barrell and then off to the Freightliner plant tour. Many of our RV’s have Freightliner Chassis’ and we are excited to see how they are made. We will have a great guided tour! Again, we ended our last evening with a great dinner at the Golden Corral Restaurant, after dinner we will have some fun with games. We will say our goodbyes and wish everyone a safe trip home! Hopefully, it will be another successful state rally that will go in the books!!

Everyone seems to be making plans for the traveling season. We hope they are planning great and interesting destinations and everyone will travel safe!! One of those trips hopefully will be the International Rally in Syracuse, New York in September-October.

Philip & I are really proud of our two Chapters Presidents and Secretaries that produce wonderful newsletters to keep our members informed and up to date on what is happening in their chapters. Both chapters are growing, and look forward to adding more new members.

NORTH CAROLINA TARHEELSHey y’all! As we write this, Gayle & I are enjoying some quiet time following the Tampa Super Show and a subsequent seven-night cruise to Labadee Haiti, Falmouth, Jamaica and Cozumel, Mexico. While we were cruising with 6,400+ of our closest friends, most of our time aboard was dedicated to a small sub-group of 14 relatives and friends who were SAILebrating a cousin’s retirement. Of course, after a week of NO cooking, NO laundry, NO making beds, NO cleaning, and a LOT of good eats – it takes a few days to get back into the “real world” routine. Both Gayle & I also came back with some sort of upper respiratory crud so it’s been a slow transition. Oh, the challenges of retired, snow-birding life.

It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to one of our long-time members and a precious lady, Eloise Koehler, who passed away March 10, 2019 at 82 years old. George & Eloise joined the Newmar Kountry Klub and the Tarheel chapter in April, 2002 and were still active up until she became ill last year. Both were always willing to help, especially the newbies, and will be missed. Eloise is survived by her husband of 59 years, George Koehler III; daughter, Sylvia Koehler; son, George Koehler IV; and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made in Eloise’s honor to Gideons International, P.O. Box 97251, Washington DC 20090-7251 or (www.gideons.org) or to Operation Christmas Child through Samaritans Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607 or (www.samaritanspurse.org). Please keep the entire Koehler family in your thoughts and prayers. Condolences can be sent to: George Koehler, 6070 Tabor Church Road, Fayetteville, NC 28312

A few months ago, we introduced our readers to Proteng® Fire Suppression System. During a workshop and demonstration conducted at our Tarheel Kountry Klub Rally in October, one of their representatives pointed out that there are about six thousand RV fires each year in the United States. Because of the overwhelming response of our members and limited time, Gayle & I were not able to have our coach evaluated at the rally. I am happy to report

that we met with the Proteng® rep following the Tampa rally. He evaluated our coach and installed the system within a few hours. Like any insurance policy, we hope we never have to use it, but it sure feels good knowing it’s there should the unfortunate situation ever present itself. While we are not compensated spokespersons or affiliated in any way with Proteng®, we encourage you to do your own research pertaining to fire suppressions systems to protect yourself and your home on wheels.

In addition to our home in Marshville, Gayle & I have a small getaway in the North Carolina mountains. While we have been enjoying life on the road over the last few years, it has been at the expense of those properties. It is imperative that we spend more time this spring and summer focusing our efforts on maintaining those assets. While we plan to schedule some lunch gatherings, we simply will not have time to devote to planning a full rally. We have no doubt that y’all – the Tarheel members – have countless ideas for beautiful locations and fun activities that would make for a great rally, so please let us know if you are willing to host or co-host one this year. We will assist you in any way we can. THANKS in advance!

As always, we encourage our chapter members to share with us your travel news and any questions, concerns, comments or suggestion for the betterment of the chapter. We are here to serve y’all, but we can’t do it without your input and help. Thank you.

Wherever your Newmar takes you, travel safely and enjoy the lifestyle.Carl and Gayle Webber (20143)President and [email protected] /[email protected] 704-225-7442/ 704-619-1851

SOUTH CAROLINA PALMETTO PALSAh, Spring time in South Carolina brings most of our Palmetto Pals returning home from their Snowbird locations south. Our state doesn’t see a great deal of typical winter weather, but enough cold and rain that makes warmer climates attractive. In fact, many of our Palmetto Pals travel to the same places and enjoy the more moderate climates with other Pals and with other NKK members!

Correspondence and conversations with our members reveal excitement over travel plans for early and mid-summer. As South Carolina sees high temperatures and high humidity during the summer months, these plans are imperative! Immediate Spring plans for the Pals include our luncheon in early April and our “Carolinas” State Rally later in the month, which is our joint rally with North and South Carolina. It is a rally that is always well received and well planned. Come join us!

Plans for early Summer will find many of our members traveling to their summer retreats in Michigan and the New England area, made even more exciting with the International Rally being held in that area of the country. Others in our chapter are planning extended trips West – and North West. It is wonderful to hear travel tales and include these jewels in our monthly newsletter.

Speaking of our monthly newsletter, we are thrilled to welcome our latest volunteer, Darcy Martin, who is sharing her creative skills with the Palmetto Pals. Darcy provides the graphics for our letter and the response has been overwhelming. We are grateful to Darcy and ALL our volunteers who serve our Chapter so tirelessly ~ they all add a wonderful Southern charm to the South Carolina Palmetto Pals.

TENNESSEEHowdy, Howdy, Howdy!!! I could start out with an “ole” saying about April showers but here in Middle Tennessee this year, February showers have brought budding (pun intended) trees and beautiful spring daffodils!

If you looked at the February/March Konnection you were bombarded with a slew of Region 5 State Rallies to select for the kickoff of the 2019 Rally Season! Well in this Konnection “we are here again”. If you are starting out to stay on the road for the summer you might want to make “All” the Region 5 State Rallies!

BUT...we hope for sure, Tennessee State Rally 10-13 June is one of them. Ours is being held in “West Tennessee” at EZ Daze RV Park just south of “Downtown” Memphis. Come early stay late is our mantra and we hope to see you pulling in 8 June and leaving 15 June. Rally rates will cover you the entire time at this beautiful RV Park. Park is located just across the Tennessee/Mississippi State line in Southaven, Mississippi. Go to Klub Calendar on NKK’s new website and sign up. Any questions please give us a call.

If you have not registered for the 34th Annual Newmar Kountry Klub International Rally in Syracuse, New York, now is the time...April 15 is the date sign ups begin. Region 5 Rally is open for registration and it will follow the International Rally as you head home. Myrtle Beach is the “Place to Be” October 11-16! As long as you are headed to the Klub Calendar right now to sign up for the Tennessee State Rally make sure you sign up for International and Region 5 Rallies! Trust me you will have a wonderful time!

Until June/July Konnection, drive safe and God Speed Phil and Charlene Budd (9488-L)Tennessee State [email protected]

TENNESSEE VOLUNTEER KRUISERSAre we all back from our winter locations and ready to go traveling? I know a few of us stuck it out and hunkered down at home so I’m guessing that those brave souls are ready to hit the road. I just checked our schedule and we hope to see many of our old friends, and maybe meet some new ones, at our various destinations.

Just a quick reminder to check out the newly redesigned Newmar Kountry Klub website. A lot of hard work was put into this redesign and I must say that they did a great job. And while you are there, take a look at the Calendar of Events to see if there is an event that you might be interested in. I’ve loaded up my calendar with fun events, travel destinations and rallies to attend in 2019. One upcoming event is the Tennessee State Rally to be held this year in Southaven, Mississippi on June 10 – 13. This rally will be well worth the travel time and our State Directors, Phil & Charlene Budd, have some fun things planned. As always, we are looking for new locations to hold rallies. If during your travels this year you find any “hidden treasures”, please be sure to pass them along to your chapter officers. We are willing to work with you to host/co-host a new and different rally for all to enjoy.

Now in closing I would like to assign a SMALL homework assignment. Please take just a few minutes to jot down where you spent the winter and what fun events you participated in. When your list is complete, email it to your chapter officers so that they might have an inspiration for new events for next year. Sheryn Ward (18849)[email protected]

VIRGINIAWe have been in Florida now for a couple of months and we do feel bad for our fellow American’s up north dealing with snow – LOTS of SNOW – and cold weather. I sent a text to our kids telling them I am pretty tired of getting up in the morning and going outside to shovel a foot or so of sunshine out of our driveway. The return text told me to “pound sand Pop” so I suspect they could not fully appreciate the humor so I quit texting about the sunshine

We attended the Tampa Super Show rally hosted by Gary & Wanda Smith (Region 5 Directors), Bob & Jane Hadley (Region 7 Directors), and Gregg & Margie Harrop (Florida State Directors) and it was an excellent rally. Gary asked if we could come in a day early to help so we did. As it turned out I was given the task of greeting every incoming coach and pointing then in the right direction. Usually I told them to drive straight ahead until they hit something or someone stopped them. Fortunately, no accidents reported so everything went well. Marcy was helping register everyone and the whole process was extremely well orchestrated and everything went off without a hitch. There were 200 coaches at the Rally and Newmar sent 20 techs to address service issues. The techs were great as usual and serviced all requests.

We only had 30 amp service but that worked out just fine. I only had to reset our power breaker 2 times when someone turned on the coffee maker when the AC unit was on. Once we got into the swing of 30 amp service everything was great. We came in with full fresh water and empty grey and black tanks. The show had tons of RVs to look at and there were a bunch of venders to browse.

We went 2 days including attending the Y’All Come Gathering at the Tampa RV Show. Danny & Jeanette (Virginia Wheel Presidents) schedule this every year and the attendance continues to grow. It is an informal get together and a chance to catch up with our fellow Virginia Wheels and anyone else who wants to attend. We had some first-time attendees which is always great. We had several Virginia Wheels drive up to attend the gathering. It is always great to get together with our fellow Newmarian’s. Thanks to Jeanette & Danny for setting this now annual event up. All in all, the Super Show Rally was a great event and fun for everyone. We would strongly suggest that you attend the 2020 Tampa Super Show Rally if you can work it into your schedule, we are definitely going to sign up next year.

The Virginia State Rally will be held at Americamps RV Resort May 30-June 2. The price is $125 per person and includes 3 dinners, 3 waffle breakfasts, a River Cruise, and an Escape Room Adventure. I can hear the groans about the Escape Room – the first time I did it I too groaned but boy was I wrong. On top of being a challenging event, it was a lot of fun you will not be disappointed. In fact, the Sea Turtles lost 5 members who are still trapped in the Escape Room – we miss them. Please register soon (online), we have 20 sites reserved but should be able to reserve more but the sooner we know the better.

VIRGINIA WHEELS

2019 Fun Time for Virginia Wheels - During the winter, Danny & I enjoyed traveling throughout Florida. Highlights of the winter included spending time with other Virginia Wheels’ Snowbirds as we all enjoyed Florida’s gorgeous weather.

January 17 kicked off our 2019 Virginia Wheels’ season with our Y’All Come Gathering at Tampa at Florida’s RV Show. What a wonderful time we had together! We always enjoy the fun and fellowship we have when we get together with our Virginia Wheels’ family.

May 30-June 2, we are looking forward to getting together with other NKK members at the Virginia State Rally at Americamps RV Resort in Ashland, Virginia. The Vreeland’s are planning many exciting adventures in Ashland and surrounding Richmond areas.

I love springtime with all the flowers popping out of the ground, the weather getting warmer, and rally season about to start.

Remember you can attend anyone’s rally when you belong to Newmar Kountry Klub. Just check out the rallies where you will be or

maybe would like to go this season. This year the season starts with the joint Region 6 and Michigan State Rally May 15-19. Chapter rallies start in June and there will be some state rallies mixed in then International in the fall. So register for everything you can make it to on the new and improved Newmar Kountry Klub website. This really helps the host to have a good count for how many will be attending. If you don’t like to use the computer pull out a rally form from the back of a Konnection Magazine and mail it to the host couple.

We will be parking/registration at International this year. We have a wonderful problem. We have more people who signed up to volunteer this year than we can use. With the International Rally being held in Region 7 it was decided that parking and registration would use some of Region 7’s members. Since the fairgrounds is laid out so well, we are not needing as many volunteers as we have in the past. We realize we will be disappointing some of you but remember there are other regions that will need volunteers. Be sure to sign up when you get to International on at least one of the volunteer lists. We are keeping the names of those who volunteered and we cannot use on our cancellation list. Every year someone has to cancel for different reasons and we will contact someone on the list to fill in.

As I mentioned in our last article Jerry & I will be tail gunners for the Alaska Caravan so we will be gone from late May to around the first part of August. Please post pictures on the Region 6 Facebook page so we can see all the fun we are missing. If you haven’t joined our page you can send a request and we will add you to the group.

May I wish you all a Happy and Blessed Easter and a wonderful Mother’s Day to all of our Mother’s.

Happy trails . . .

KENTUCKYBy the time you read this, hopefully winter is over, spring is upon us and camping has begun. Medical issues necessitated us returning early to a cold Kentucky from sunny Florida.

I hurriedly winterized my coach on the road as we traveled back north. I’m glad we did. The night we got home, the temperature had dropped to seven degrees. I will wonder until our next trip if my roadside efforts were successful. Here is hoping for no water leaks.

Region Directors :: Jerry and Phyllis Rose (10792-L)

REGION 6 // IN, KY, MI, OH, WVI have begun working on the 2019 Kentucky State Rally. There is still much work to do but the dates are August 8-11. It will be held in the beautiful Bardstown, Kentucky area. This is earlier in the month but it will coincide with one of the local musical shows on August 9. There are several historical sites and various entertainment venues in the area we will schedule to visit. I will have a finalized agenda by the first week of May.

Nancy & I attended the Tampa Super Show in January. Not only did we see Newmar’s new models but scouted future places to visit and new accessories to buy. The Tampa show reminded me of the old family reunions I used to attend. We got to hug, shake hands and greet both old and new friends we haven’t seen for a while.

We look forward to see you soon and as Roy Rogers would say, “Till we meet again”.Ralph and Nancy Dennis (20372)Kentucky State Directors

MICHIGANHello from Michigan! After a mild and then roaring winter, two days without electricity, and two short trips to Florida we are ready for SPRING!! The itch to be in the coach traveling around is very strong!!! We are anxious to see old friends and make new friends.

We are gearing up for our 2019 season. The Michigan Aires & Great Lakers have a full calendar of events planned this year. We will kick off the year with our Region 6 & Michigan State combined Rally in Marshal, Michigan. We welcome anyone to join us at any of our rallies. We always have a great time and plenty of food. For our schedule and rally info please feel free to contact us, or look at the calendar of events listed in the back of the Konnection magazine.

We were at the Tampa Super Show in Florida this past January. What a great rally is was. We had warm weather and SUN, unlike Michigan in winter. It is a great place to see the Newmar products on display, meet with the representatives of the Newmar Corporation and your fellow Newmar owners. This is a fun and low-key rally. We recommend it to everyone. As with any of the special events Newmar offers it sells out every year so start planning now to attend.

Safe travels to all...Chuck and Michelle Steenwyk (20036)Michigan State [email protected]

OHIO By the time you read this article we will be back from our annual Georgia trip…perhaps well rested and maybe a little tan.

We have had a lot of crazy weather changes since our February Konnection article. After that writing we thought we were done with cold weather for good. We were looking forward to a warm/sunny spring…not so fast. Instead, we got most of the snow that was forecasted for December in January-February so Flash has gotten a lot of use from his snow blower. And, I gladly let him use that brand new snow shovel that he “soooo…thoughtfully” bought for me.

Well it’s time to get ready for rally season; shorts, capris, etc. It will be good to leave the winter coats in the closet for a while.

We hope everyone has had a safe and healthy 2019 so far. We hope to see many of you at one of our upcoming NKK rallies. That’s all for now folks!

WEST VIRGINIAHello to everyone from Wild Wonderful West Virginia. As I write this, we are having freezing rain, sleet and snow. However, it’s supposed to warm up again tomorrow.

Beth and I traveled south after Christmas. She is the primary sponsor of our Lions Club Bingo fund raiser and she shopped for bag fillers all the way down. She filled five large plastic totes.

We went on to the Tampa RV show and camped with fellow WV Members Steve and Diane Sears. We were happy to camp with several Newmar Kountry Klub members of Region 6 from Kentucky, Ohio and Michigan. We had a great time traveling around with this group with the highlight being dinner and a show at the old original Columbia Restaurant in the old section of Tampa. As usual, the Tampa show was well coordinated with Newmar providing us with 30 amp electricity.

We left a day early and drove over to Port Canaveral to go on a 7-day Disney Cruise to the Western Caribbean. The Mountain Aire automatic generator worked flawlessly keeping the batteries charged and the refrigerator and freezer cold. It’s great to own such a reliable rig!

I was scheduled for a small medical procedure so we traveled back to Clearwater until Tuesday and then headed slowly north. Our last stop was in Wytheville, VA, at a truck stop with the temperature at 17 degrees. I set the heated floor to 3 and the furnace at 73 and was able to sleep on top of the sheets. The Newmar is an amazingly well insulated motorhome.

We have set the date for our West Virginia State Rally. It will be held in Elkins, West Virginia on September 12-15. We will have a train ride and a dinner theatre and a lot of fun and fellowship. The West Virginia hosts will be serving a traditional West Virginia delicacy of Ramps, Soup Beans, Cornbread, Fried Potatoes and Ham. That date is less than two weeks before the Newmar International Rally in Syracuse, New York. We set that date so members who are south or west of us could come to our rally and then work their way slowly on to the International enjoying the scenery. The leaves may be turning by then and the scenery should be magnificent.

As we travel over the next year, we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible in as many locations as possible.God Bless You,Bill and Beth White (20471)West Virginia State [email protected] [email protected]

NEW ENGLAND AIRESAs I look out the window while writing this in late February from our home in the White Mountains it is hard to believe that the camping season in New England is just around the corner. We are really looking forward to a great rally season and catching up with old and meeting new friends.

Our Chapter will again start off with a rally at Grandview camping in Moodus Connecticut from May 16-19. This will be hosted by Vince & Louise Wessling with Rich & Jackie Frigon. Please sign up on the Kountry Klub Website. Our summer rally will be at Shore Hills Campground in Boothbay Maine from July 18-21. This one will be hosted by Jim & Donna McAllister with Bob & Judy Jones and is now filled up.

Please let us know if any of you would like to host, cohost or know of a campground that may make a good rally site. We would still like to add one more rally to this year’s schedule.

We hope you are all doing well and hope to see you soon.Jim & Donna McAllister (21866)New England Aires Presidents

NEW JERSEYAngela & I took 6 weeks off this winter. First time my work schedule has allowed us to get away during that time. We traveled down south to Alabama and Florida to spend some time with our fellow New Jersey Garden Aire members, Mike & Barbara Agrati and Tommy & Lynn Gingerelli. We caught up with Mike & Barbara in Gulf Shores, Alabama and Tommy and Lynn at their winter camp in Bowling Green, Florida. We had fun biking and hanging with our friends and spent a little time planning our New Jersey Rally.

We are having the rally all the way down in Cape May, New Jersey at the Cape May KOA. It’s easy to get there, just jump on the Garden State Parkway (GSP) and get off at the last exit,

Region Directors :: Bob and Jane Hadley (16789)

REGION 7 // CT, DC, DE, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, PA, RI, VT

Greetings from Region 7! WOW! Where did the winter season go? For us wintering in Florida the season flew by. Maybe not so for those of you that braved the winter up north.

We are now heading into the 2019 Rally Season and Region 7 has many rallies to pick and choose from to attend. Please

register early for these events. Sites are limited for some campgrounds. Questions should be directed to the rally hosts. Their contact information is located on line in the COE event section and in the Konnection magazine.

Region 7’s Rally is going forward smoothly. Members are registering on line which is a great help to us to keep track of who is coming. Please remember to call the campground to make your own site reservations.

While in Florida this year we saw many members at the Tampa RV Super Show. Over 200 coaches parked in the Newmar Section in the Fairgrounds for this event. A great time was had by all that attended. Many thanks to our hosts Gary &Wanda Smith and their co-hosts Greg & Margie Harrop for all their planning to make this event happen. May thanks to North Trail RV for all their support to the Klub.

We also attended the luncheons in Fort Myers hosted by Ron & Wanda Llewellyn. Each month they arrange to have a speaker present to offer knowledge from buying the right tires for your coach to the understanding of your oasis system.

Want you all to know that we are in the final stages of forming a new chapter in Eastern Pennsylvania. Four members, Wayne & Sue Burke and Carol & Richard Parton have stepped forward to make this happen. Please-- Those of you in Eastern, Pennsylvania give them your support by attending their organizational rally to be held at Flory’s Campground in Ronks, Pennsylvania May 14-17. The chapter officers have already been decided so sign up for a great time and be charter members of the newest chapter in the Newmar Kountry Klub. All info on the rally can be found in their article in this month’s Konnection magazine or on line. Questions - please don’t hesitate to call them. Their contact info is in this edition of the magazine in their article.

This year’s International Rally in Syracuse, New York is approaching fast. Registration will open in April 15 at 10 am on the Klub’s website only. Hope to see all of you there.

Region 7 would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Gail Tachok on the passing of her husband Paul Tachok. Paul & Gail were President/Secretary of the New York Lakers Chapter for many years. Our thoughts and prayers to the Tachok family during this sad time.

HUDSON AIRESGreetings. As I write this, winter still has a grip on the north, but spring should soon make an appearance. We’ve appreciated our time wintering in the sunshine of Sarasota, Florida. Catching up with friends, attending a Newmar luncheon in Ft. Myers, visiting the Chihuly Collection in St. Petersburg, visiting several of the beautiful beaches including Gasparilla and Anna Maria Islands, playing pétanque (French bocci-type game), spending time in the pool, are all restorative.

April’s Easter vacation week will find us in Chincoteague, Virginia with the oldest two grandsons. The Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge is a favorite April off-season destination. We enjoy biking and seeing the birds in the preserve, along with the wild ponies.

The next weekend we’ll be joining the New Jersey Garden Aires in Cape May.

Hudson Aires will hold our first rally at the end of June in Marathon, New York from Thursday, June 25-30. Please look for details and register on the NKK Calendar of Events on the website.

Save the dates in September for two back-to-back rallies in Glens Falls and Lake George. Friday through Sunday, September 20-22, join us and the Northeast Hot Air RVers for dry camping on the hill above the Floyd Bennett Memorial Airport in Warren County, New York. Experience the thrill of the

No. 0. Yes, the GSP is big rig friendly, think of the buses going down to Atlantic City, right! Just don’t get on north of NYC, as there are some low overpasses. South of NYC, you are clear sailing. Dates for the rally are April 25-28. Come on down! You’ll have a great time!

I’m sitting at Camp Newmar as I write this. We are dropping off the coach for some warranty work along with the usual maintenance stuff. Between this winter trip and the summer of last year we have now put 10,000 miles on our new coach. And for the most part everything is working fine. I truly believe having had done the factory pickup saved a lot of future issues. If I ever get another new coach, I’ll do the same again.

As always, keep safe and warm out there. If you have any New Jersey questions, please don’t hesitate to write or call.Sincerely,Bill and Angela Mannion (19246)New Jersey State Directors [email protected] 917-494-5636

NEW JERSEY GARDEN AIRESGood Morning Everyone from sunny Florida. The weather is already hitting 85. Even though I am down south I am still working feverishly to make our New Jersey Rally in Cape May a great one. We now have 12 coaches registered and hope to have a few more. We will also be meeting a few new members and want to welcome them with open arms.

In December Lynn & I presented Dylan’s RV a special plaque for all the hard work and donations to our chapter. Dylan’s RV also has the distinct honor of being the first and only dealer to be recognized in the Kountry Klub Magazine for all the fine work they do for our chapter. I know Steve and all the members of his staff will continue to be there for the Garden Aires. Until I see you in April be well. Tommy and Lynn Gingerelli (21978)Presidents

NEW YORKWe just returned from sunny Florida where we attended a hardware show in Orlando.

Outside temperature 84 degrees or better. We spent most of our time in the Convention Center in Orlando. After a quick trip home on Sunday and Monday with all of the cross winds we are back in Western New York with 16 degrees and snow.

Leaving the balloon festival, we’ll head to the Hudson Aires rally in Lake George at the Lake George RV Park, from Sunday, September 22-Wednesday, September 25. Early autumn in upstate New York is an experience not to be missed. A lunch cruise on the lake is included in the rally. Register at Newmar’s Calendar of Events.

From Lake George, we’ll head west to Syracuse for the International Rally from September 30-October 5. This is an experience not to be missed. We’re hoping for the Hudson Aires chapter to be well represented!

On February 3 a winter luncheon was held at Tillman’s Village Inn in Albion, New York. We had 18 people attend the luncheon with many honorary members in attendance. Chris Foley treated us to dessert and coffee at her home after the luncheon.

The Lakers first rally will be at Southwoods RV Resort hosted by Chris Foley, May 17-19. See calendar of events for details. Make your campground reservation early as sites go fast for this rally.

Be sure to make your reservations for the New York State Rally in Hamburg, New York, July 3-7. We will be going into Buffalo to see and board The Tall Ships at Basil Port of Call.

October 18-20 the Lakers will be at Genesee Country Campground with Bill Nixon hosting our last rally of the season. Be sure to make reservations early as this is a popular time of year to camp in this area. Details in calendar of events.

On October 20 the Laker’s will have their annual brunch at Terry Hills Golf Club. We always have a good turn-out for the brunch and gift exchange. See calendar of events for contact information.Joan Griswold (15884-L)President

PENNSYLVANIA ALLEGHENY KOUNTRY KAMPERSHope all is well with you all and you’re ready “to go camping” with the AKK Klub! Yes it’s early in the season but campgrounds are requesting reservations to be made early. Our next rally will be at the Gettysburg Campground at 2030 Fairfield Rd. in Gettysburg Pennsylvania Monday June 17-Thursday June 20. Our chapter had a rally there a few years ago and it has a great enclosed pavilion! If you are planning on attending this rally you must call the campground phone 1-717-334-3304 and make your own site reservations. They also have cabins for those of

you who “don’t have wheels” anymore. Working on the itinerary and will have info posted. We will have a meeting during the rally with election of officers and especially look forward to your input to get our chapter more active. Hope to see you there and get to meet our newest members. Any questions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I can be reached at 1-814-267-3376 or email [email protected].

EASTERN PENNSYLVANIAThis is a brand new Chapter! Bob &Jane Hadley has asked my wife & I, as well as Richard & Carol Parton to start this new chapter. This area has not had an active Chapter for quite some time. We are extremely pleased with the response we have received from the first email we sent out 1 month ago.

The newly proposed Eastern, Pennsylvania Newmar Klub will be having a Spring Rally, May 14-17th. It will be hosted by Wayne & Sue Burke, and Rick & Carol Parton. It will take place in the Lancaster area of Pennsylvania. The first rally will be at Flory’s Campground 99 N Ronks Rd. Ronks, PA 17527. An initial reservation has been placed for 15 sites with water, 30 & 50 amp electric service, and sewer. The group discounted rate that we were given for the sites is $56.70 a night, for everyone with a Good Sam number.

The Rally cost is $110 per person. This fee will cover a welcome dinner, (3) breakfasts and a dinner with a chapter meeting at an Amish Restaurant, Train Ride in Strasburg, Tour through the Strasburg Rail Museum, and a guided tour through an Amish home and farm. If you have any dietary needs, please let us know. We will be having one Potluck dinner as well. Mail Rally fee to: Richard Parton 1090 Green Glen Dr. Garnet Valley, PA 19060.

We really hope you will come and enjoy all that the Lancaster area has to offer. If you are able to make the trip, please send a check for the rally fee for each person. You have to call the campground and make your reservation and send them a check for the first night deposit. The campground does not take credit cards. Flory’s Campground PO Box 308, 99 N Ronks Rd Ronks, PA 17572. For Campground reservation call: (717) 687-6670. The deposit fee is $63.00. Reservations have to be made ASAP because of site accommodations with the campground, or we will lose the sites we reserved.

We are looking for input as to future locations for rallies, Chapter name, ideas for our chapter, activities for our rallies, and ideas for cook-outs, pot lucks, and meals.

We are also looking at doing a Fall Rally but open for other ideas. Please contact us with your interest or input.

We are looking forward to a great time of fun-food-and fellowshipWayne and Sue Burke (20367)(570) [email protected]

Well spring is finally here and we can look forward to getting our rigs rolling locally.

We look forward to seeing everyone at our combined rally of Region 8 and the Muskoka Ramblers taking place May 23-26 at the Milton Heights Campground. Contact information and location are on the Klub’s

website under Klub Calendar. We are featuring a “Newmar Family Picnic” and certainly hope you will join us for the fun and festivities. Come see what fun we have in store for you!

Guess what! You can now register on line for all rally events. Updates have recently been made to the Kountry Klub website and feature a more user friendly and interactive site. This will make attending any Klub function a whole lot easier. It also allows for much quicker turn around for the Rally Hosts to get us the information and get it on the Web for our members to see. This will hopefully encourage more visiting members to join us on their travels through our country.

If you are travelling to the East Coast this year, don’t forget to join the Aurum Kountry Travelers at their Spring Rally in Shediac, New Brunswick. June 28- July 1 at the Wishing Star (Etoile Filante) campground is the place to be. Contact information is on the website, so check it out.

Hopefully your calendar is marked to join us in Syracuse New York for the 2019 International. September 30-October 5 are the dates to enjoy the beautiful Finger Lakes of New York and to participate in the last International Rally put on by Bob & Bonnie Krieger. They have done a great job of increasing membership, updating our technical capabilities within the Klub and getting members to come to International Rallies. Let us show them our appreciation by making this their largest one yet. A new location for an International and so very close!

Please contact us with any suggestions or concerns. Email [email protected] or phone 905-520-6217

I saw a sign the other day that said, “The Voice of Traveling Canadians” it was referring to an advertisement for the Canadian Snowbird Association.

The Canadian Snowbird Association is a national, not-for-profit organization dedicated to defending and improving the

rights and privileges of travelling Canadians. Their motto is “Dedicated to defending and improving the rights and privileges of travelling Canadians”. They have a neat section called Bird Talk which has a searchable section to help you research any topic of interest to you. I have had great success in finding out things relating to our travels in the USA, Canada and Mexico. Next time you have a question, give it a try.

The 2019 RV season is here, and we are ready to go. It’s going to be a great summer of travel for your Region 9 Directors. We will once again head to the international Rally in New York State and take charge of the Kountry Klub store. We are always looking for volunteers to help for a few hours at the store so if you plan on attending the rally and wish to volunteer a few hours, please let me know. There will also be the famous Canadian Gathering which will be hosted this year by the Region 8 Directors. This is always a great event and we get visits by the Newmar Executives and of course the International Directors. We hope to have some of our smoked sockeye salmon still in our freezer but that will depend on how many social gatherings we have before then.

Before the International Rally we are the caravan hosts for the Newfoundland/Maritimes Special Event which is 52-day caravan in Eastern Canada starting in Halifax in early July. Then before this we will be making the trek to the Manitoba rally near Brandon then Saskatchewan rally at Watrous followed by the Alberta rally in Breton. Unfortunately, we are unable to catch the British Columbia Rally in Cranbrook. If you need more information on any of these rallies, check out the calendar of events on the NKK web site… or the same information can be found on the region 9 Facebook page. Note at the time of this report, the details for the Alberta rally have not been released except the location and dates which are shown in report below.

Hopefully the old saying April showers bring May flowers does not dampen (pun intended) your spirits to get out there and enjoy your RV.

As always, our door is always open, and we look forward to all comment and suggestions.

We meet, we part, we hope to meet again…

Region Directors :: Dave & Joanne Killey (16152-L)

ALBERTA WILD ROSEDear fellow AWR chapter members:

Brrrr - when will spring come to the Prairies? Even the Waxwings are late arriving this year. Well, the good news is only 3 months until the AWRK Rally at Aspen Crossing RV Park from May 31 - June 3. We have preliminary plans underway and Sylvia & I are slowly learning the ropes and heeding advice from Lorne during our transition. Thanks also to Dave & Joanne Killey for also providing their sage advice as Sylvia & I continue to learn the ropes.

Please watch this space for updates on the rally, details of which I had hoped to announce in this note but the best laid plans…well you know the rest. We are working closely with Ray & Karen Shepherd who are managing the handover of Secretary/Treasurer documents from Bill. Ray & Karen are also playing an active role in our planning for the rally in May and the four of us have decided it best if we co-host this year’s rally. A special thanks in advance to Terry & Nora Martin who have graciously agreed to provide the Bingo again this year. We have been busy with crossing our t’s and dotting our i’s so while Ray, Karen, Sylvia & I have not put the final touches on the rally details, yet we are diligently working on planning to keep you all busy while on site.

Watch for details in my next report - so save the date - May 31 to June 3 and we can hook up with the gang coming across from Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

That’s if for now and stay warm!Douglas and Sylvia Anderson (22846)[email protected]

BRITISH COLUMBIAHello all from sunny and finally hot Arizona. The British Columbia Provincial and British Columbia Dogwood Klub will be having a Combined Rally again this year on July 4 – 8, 2019 in Cranbrook, British Columbia. The rally will be patterned after the very successful Quartzsite Gathering in the Desert. This dry camping event is held every year in January on BLM land in the desert south of Quartzsite, Arizona. It is usually 4-5 days in length and campers rely on generators and solar power to power their units. We have attended 2 of these rallies in the past and have really enjoyed ourselves. We have met many new friends and were also joined by Dogwood Klub members current and past.

Our rally site is the Scandinavian Lodge on the outskirts of Cranbrook on 25 acres of grass fields. There is lots of fenced level ground for parking, a large fire pit and horse shoe pits. The 3000 square foot lodge building has a large outside deck, large open area inside with lots of tables and chairs, a large commercial kitchen and washrooms and we have the lodge to ourselves for the duration of the rally. You will see that the cost is quite reasonable as the camping is free and the fee covers meals and Lodge rental. There is a Sani dump at the Chamber of Commerce site in Cranbrook, 5 – 10 minutes from the Lodge, with clean fresh water so you can flush and fill before you arrive. As always Non Newmar owners are welcome, so bring your friends!

Cranbrook is only an hour from the Montana border and an hour from the Idaho border, nestled in the South East corner of British Columbia. We would love to see some American friends join us at our rally as well as Canadian friends, so come and join us! It will be a lot of FUN!!! For more information on our rally you can go onto Region 9 Western Canada Face Book page or you can email me at [email protected] or phone or text me at 250-919-4722.

Cancellation Policy For Region, State, Provincial Rallies

Due to the large number of late cancellations, the Kountry Klub has experienced significant financial losses from non-refundable commitments made during the planning stages.A new Region, State/Provincial Rally “Cancellation Policy” is being implemented.1) An administrative fee of $10/person will be charged. This fee will cover

costs associated with processing your rally registration and will be included in the rally fees as advertised.

2) Members who register for a rally and then:a) For whatever reason, cancel a minimum of 35 days prior to the start

of the rally will receive a full refund, less the administrative fee of $10/person.

b) Cancel 34 to 8 days prior to the start of a rally will be charged for any non-refundable commitments made on your behalf in addition to the $10/person fee.

c) Cancel 7 or less days prior to the start of a rally will receive No Refund on any portion of the rally fee paid.

3) Members who register for a rally and do not advise the Hosts that they will not be attending will receive no refund.

4) All refunds will be made at the conclusion of the rally.

PLEASE NOTE: Planning any rally requires long-term organization. Many service providers require non-refundable financial commitments. Because these deposits and financial commitments are often made well in advance of any rally, this policy becomes a necessity.

Please notify the Kountry Klub immediately if you have to cancel your trip.

Cancellations will be accepted for Special Travel Events and Caravan Tours on the following conditions:

a) A $25.00 per person cancellation fee will be charged anytime you cancel an event reservation.

b) For reservations cancelled 69 days to 30 days from the start of the event, you are responsible for all non-refundable portions of the financial commitments paid out by the Klub on your behalf for the event plus $25.00 per person cancellation fee.

Please Note: The Kountry Klub must pay some non-refundable financial commitments and deposits well in advance of events. We cannot absorb losses on last minute cancellations, and we will no longer do so. These commitments make this cancellation policy a necessity. We thank you for your understanding.

DEALER APPRECIATION

I would like to recognize and commend Leisure Time RV in Oklahoma City. We were a little apprehensive, since they were bought by Camping World; that the Newmar reputation of good sales and service might be in jeopardy. But I gotta tell ya that they are extremely warm and friendly and very supportive of the Kountry Klub! At a recent RV show, they furnished me with the space and time to promote and talk about the Klub to all their customers. And a special thanks to Don Walker, Sales Manager, for providing a meal and some new coaches on display at our state rally to be held in Weatherford Oklahoma on April 25-28.

They have gone above and beyond and are well appreciated by this state director!

The Gathering in Quartzsite was a great success again this year thanks to the tireless help Ruth Ann & I received from our two co-host couples the Hawley’s (co-hosts four years!) and Todd’s (their first year as co-hosts) and the over one-hundred volunteers that pitched in to help with many varied activities along with meal preparation and cleanups! All you helpers give yourselves a big pat on the back! All our prayers for good weather were answered even including a nice long rain the day before start to settle the dust. We had nearly an inch of liquid sunshine, but it ran off and soaked into the ground by late afternoon on the day before the official start. It did delay the arrival of some planning on coming in early. You know what we say, “If you don’t come early you are late”. The weather from Tuesday evening until Sunday evening after our evening meal was very nice and warm with low to moderate winds and plenty of sunshine making for nice sunrises and sunsets and very pleasant gathering.

Our numbers for the rally were as follows: We had a registration count of 143 after a few cancelations and last-minute additions. We had a total of 120 coaches plus a few day visitors. The group included fifty-eight first timers or first timers to “Q”. That first-timer count is the most exciting number.

We filled the time before the Big Tent RV Show opened Saturday with the usual socializing, eight seminars provided by outside vendors and NKK members and of course plenty of eating. Ted started the seminars out Thursday morning first thing with a roundtable on dry camping that was attended by many and especially our first timers. On Thursday

after dinner we celebrated Phyllis Rose’s birthday with a sheet cake Jerry provided! Friday was a big seminar day also well attended and appreciated by our first timers.

This year we had a guest, Elvis! He and his wife Patty (Bob & Patty Brown) joined us from Oregon. He played music three nights after dinner for about two hours each night in his site and he was awesome!

This year we decided to be less formal with the parking and let attendees park themselves with help provided if requested and with some guidelines to assure we fit the very large number of attendees as close as possible to the gathering area. The BLM partial shutdown did not really affect the Gathering other than some did not get 14-day permits as they were not available the entire time.

From the feedback we received I think I can say that a great time was had by all and we were encouraged to continue our hosting of this event. This was our seventh-year hosting this Gathering. On that vein, we talked to the group about some ideas of how we can simplify the event to allow for continued growth. The self-parking we tried is an example. The hosts all agreed that next year there will be fewer meals which are prepared completely by the hosts. Next year we will try three prepared meals and two meals consisting of heavy hors d’oeuvres provided by the attendees. See you there year!
