Cable Caster and Fish Tape

Labeling Systems

An automated labeler canprint multiple copies oflabels. Labels come on a rolland can be peeled off easilyas needed

A manual labeling system isideal for smaller projects andtemporary labels

A permanent marker is usedto write on the blank labels

Stripping and Cutting Tools

Stripping tools are used to cutthe cable jacket and insulation ofthe wires

The cable is inserted into the tool,

and then the tool is twistedaround the cable

The scissors can be used to cutindividual wires, remove the outer

jacket of smaller cables, andremove the insulation onindividual wires

Termination Tools

The multi-pair terminationtool is designed toterminate and cut UTPcable and seat connecting

blocks The impact tool has

interchangeable blades sothat it can terminate wires

on 66 and 110 hardware.This tool terminates onlyone wire at a time



Crimping Tools

After the cable has been cut,the jack is attached to the endof the cable by a crimping tool

Crimping tools come indifferent styles depending onthe manufacturer and the rangeof jobs they are intended to be

able to accomplish

Crimping tools can be manualor battery-powered



Cable Testers

Cable testers are used totest cables for opens,shorts, split pairs, andother wiring problems

After the cable installerhas terminated a cable,the cable should be

plugged into the cabletester to verify that thetermination was donecorrectly



Certification Meter

Structured cabling systems thatadhere to installation standardsare required to be certified.Certification meters perform all

of the required performancetests to adhere to theANSI/TIA/EIA-568-B standards

In addition to certification, these

meters include diagnosticfeatures that will actually showhow far these problems are fromthe end of the cable being tested

Multimeters

A digital multimeter canbe used to ensure there isno voltage on thetelecommunications line

before putting moresophisticated testequipment on the line

Most of these devices canmeasure AC/DC voltage,current, resistance, diode,continuity, and transistor



Voltage sensors

AC voltage sensors will glow red or another colorwhen placed near AC voltages

Use this tool as a first step when troubleshooting

circuits to find out if they are active



Tone and Probe Set

The tone and probe setidentifies cables by inducingan audible signal on a cablethat can be found using aprobe

The tone from the probe gets

louder as it gets closer to thewire with the tone



Telephone Test Set

The telephone test set is used to listen fornoise on a telephone circuit

When connected to working telephone lines,

the test set works like an ordinary telephone



Tool Usage and Material Handling

Before using a new tool, read theaccompanying documentation, study thedevice, and ask for assistance from an

experienced installer It is better to ask for help than get hurt, hurt

someone else, or damage an expensivepiece of equipment

Expensive tools are generally moreeconomical in the long run since they typicallyare built to last for many years



Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)

A material safety data sheet (MSDS) is adocument that contains information on theuse, storage, and handling of a hazardous

material It tells what the hazards of the material are,

how to use it safely, what to expect if therecommendations are not followed, what to doif accidents occur, how to recognizesymptoms of overexposure, and what to do ifsuch incidents occur

The cable installers appearance andconduct reflects on the company.Therefore, always maintain a professionalappearance and demeanor

In the cabling industry, like many others, agood referral is valuable when competingagainst other companies
