26 SEP 2018: India’s Supreme Court has come down heavily on the mandatory linking of Aadhaar for almost everything. In a much-ant ic ipated ru l ing today (Sept. 26), a five-judge bench struck down section 57 of the Aadhaar Act, which allowed corporate entities or even individuals to demand an Aadhaar card in exchange for goods or services. As a result, now no school, office, or company can force anyone to reveal the unique 12-digit number. Neither it is mandatory for opening bank accounts or for mobile connections. However, the Aadhaar number must still be quoted to file income tax returns and apply for a personal account number (PAN). Introduced in 2009 by the Manmohan Singh-led United Progressive Alliance government, the scheme has grown to become the world’s largest biometric ID programme.

♦ MPATGMs range in size from shoulder-launched weapons which can be transported by a single soldier, to larger tripod-mounted weapons which require a squad or team to transport and fire, to a vehicle and aircraft-mounted missile systems.

18 SEP 2018: Germany launched the world's first hydrogen-powered train. The hydrogen-powered train technology is costlier but eco-friendly. The two bright blue Coradia iLint trains are built by French TGV-maker Alstom. It runs a 100km between the towns and cities of Cuxhaven, Bremerhaven, Bremervoerde and Buxtehude in northern Germany. Similar to the range of diesel trains, these trains can also run for around 1,000 km on a single tank of hydrogen, Hydrogen trains are equipped with fuel cells that produce electricity through a combination of hydrogen and oxygen. This process leaves steam and water as the only emissions. As an alternate, excess energy is stored in ion-lithium batteries on board the train. Countries including Britain, the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Italy and Canada are planning to introduce the pollution free hydrogen trains.

ISRO conducts first escape test for India’s manned mision to space6 JULY 2018: The Indian Space Research Organisat ion ( ISRO) successfully conducted test of Crew Escape System that provides escape mechanism for astronauts if the launch operation is aborted. The crew escape system is being developed as p a r t o f t h e p r o p o s e d h u m a n spaceflight programme. It was the first pad abort test critical for future human space mission that demonstrated safe recovery of crew module in case of any exigency at the launch pad. The test lasted little more than three minutes and involved aborting space capsule at launch to save astronauts.

The pigments taken from marine black shales of the Taoudeni Basin in Mauritania, West Africa, were more than half a billion years older than previous pigment discoveries. The fossils range from blood red to deep purple in their concentrated form, and bright pink when diluted.

7 JULY 2018: Researchers from MIT have designed a four-legged robot called Cheetah 3 that can run, jump onto desks, and climb obstacle-laden stairs without visual sensors. The 40kg robot has been developed with two new algorithms to provide the robot with 'blind locomotion' capabilities. Using those, the robot adjusts its movements and determines how much force to use to perform actions like stepping forward and pulling back and deals with unexpected forces like a kick. The robot can also recover from adverse conditions like being shoved or yanked by relying on "feel" instead of cameras. It will be presented at the International Conference on Intelligent Robots, Spain in October.Scientists discover world's oldest colours from Sahara desert in Africa

18 JULY 2018: Scientists have found 12 new moons orbiting around Jupiter, bringing its total number of moons to 79, the most for any planet in the solar system. One of the moons has been called a “real oddball” due to its tiny size. Scientists think the vast number of objects orbiting the planet is probably the result of collisions earlier in its life, which have been captured by Jupiter and now continue to orbit it.

16 JULY 2018: Scientists have found evidence of a link between herpes infection and Alzheimer's disease as well as the potential of antivirals in reducing the risk of the neurodegenerative disease. A study by Taiwanese epidemiologists shows that Herpes Simplex Virus type 1 (HSV1) which infects most humans in their youth or later and remains in the body for life in dormant form within the peripheral nervous system leads to an increased risk of developing the disease. Scientists believe that these safe and easily available antivirals may have a strong part to play in combating the disease in these patients.Mumbai based automaker unveiled India's first hypercar 'Shul'

about 91% specificity. The diagnostic test is based on a derivative of a DNA aptamer that shows high binding affinity in the nanomolar range and high specificity to a TB antigen (HspX). The performance of the diagnostic test was evaluated in 87 cerebrospinal fluid samples obtained from paediatric subjects. The currently used diagnostic methods of microscopy and culture of cerebrospinal fluid are with huge limitations in terms of sensitivity and time (up to 8 weeks). Even GeneXpert has only 55% sensitivity. The introduced diagnostic test for TB meningitis has been patented by AIIMS and Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI) and licensed to AptaBharat Innovation Pvt Limited.

11 AUG 2018: Scientists have developed a new compound which is believed to reverse ageing in human cells. This might lead to the basis for a new generation anti-degenerative drugs. Compounds namely AP39, AP123 and RT01 were designed in a way that they can selectively deliver minute quantities of the gas hydrogen sulphide to the mitochondria, the power stations, in cells. By delivering so, it helps the old or damaged cells to generate the energy needed for survival and to reduce senescence. These compounds produced a 40-50% drop in the number of senescent blood vessel cells.Chandrayaan-I data confirms presence of ice on Moon21 AUG 2018: Using data from the Chandrayaan-I spacecraft, Scientists have found frozen water deposits in the darkest and coldest parts of the Moon's polar regions.M3, aboard the Chandrayaan-1 spacecraft, launched in 2008 by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), was uniquely equipped to confirm the presence of solid ice on the Moon.NASA scientists found signs of water in Jupiters Great Red Spot

The research is a breakthrough for saving endangered species like tiger and snow leopard.

13 SEP 2018: Scientists from the University of Manchester, England, have developed a non-antibiotic drug that can treat tuberculosis (TB) in humans effectively. The drug targets Mycobacterium tuberculosis' defences rather than the bacteria itself. In the study, published in the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, animals with acute and chronic TB infection were treated with the compound. The results revealed that the compound does not kill the bacteria directly, but results in a significant reduction in the bacterial burden. It can also take out its increasingly commonly antibiotic-resistant strains. The scientists hope for clinical trials in humans up in four years.

HOW TO MAKE OUR CHILDREN FUTURE READY

We are living in a volatile world. Our lives are guided by technologically infused innovations in every sphere- smart houses, autonomous cars, artificial intelligence, social media etc. are a part

of our lives now. So, the big question arises – How to make our children future ready?

The best learning for a child happens in the classroom. So, it is necessary to upgrade the classroom teaching. Use of technology has opened the world to the children. Interactive smart boards can be used to ensure maximum student engagement in the teaching learning process. This helps the students/children of different learning styles to learn from each other. It improves the classroom management and provides both academic and digital learning. It is a good way to engage the students in a fun filled learning. Children learn the best when their hands and brains are active. Hands-on learning is one of the best ways to do that. Smart boards, with its unique features, create this environment of interaction at various levels.

Internet has opened the world of opportunities. Children should be nurtured to use the opportunities in the best possible ways. By Nature, children are curious and creative. They give their hundred percent energy to do a work they are interested in. A culture of creative thinking should be instigated in the young minds from the beginning. Resources should be used carefully and creatively to maximize their potential. Avenues should be created to develop a streak of research-based education, stimulated by creativity. Granting equivalent access to technology and information is the need of the hour.

It is obvious that our parents or even, our curriculum won't be enough to tackle the challenges arising from the situations of these technological advancements. We need to prepare the children to adopt to a world which is largely unknown and unthought of. Here are a few tips which can help us to swim with the tide and yet remain afloat.1. Upgrade your classroom:

2. Promote culture of creativity:

3. Community collaboration: The school should impart future-ready curriculum. With imparting knowledge, the

curriculum should kindle the innate potential of a child and nurture him/her to think out of the box. The curriculum should actively promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) ICT (Info communication Technology), Entrepreneurship and Leadership development. These curriculum help prepare the children to be future innovators. They also help to develop community collaboration by developing their problem- solving skills. A learner centric, collaborative curriculum, thus focuses on the holistic growth of the student/children, making him/her a true community person.

4. Sharing of classroom experience with the parents: A child develops with two worlds- the house and school. The parents are the most important

part of a child's life, as they are the first educators. As the child leaves the house and enters the school, the curriculum shapes his/her future life. Educators and parents together should form a partnership in the journey of the child. So, the parents should be involved at every level of learning of a child in his/her school. Like their children, parents should be encouraged to interact, ask and be a part of the decision-making procedure. A world of mutual trust would be created between the parents and the educators, nurturing a safe and healthy environment for the children to grow up.

Today's preschoolers will enter the workfare around 2035. Although it is difficult to contemplate the state of development of that time, but we can conclude by saying that inculcation of certain skills is necessary to make them future ready. The 3RS (Reading, Writing and Arithmetic) are the basics of these skills. Along with these, the schools need to focus more on so-called soft skills and character traits in addition to cognitive skills such as problem-solving, critical analyses, attainment of subject knowledge, literacy and numeracy ability.

These are some of the points that can be taken in mind in nurturing our future generation, to a world which is largely unseen and unknown to us. The time is ripe to construct a curriculum emphasizing on the imparting of knowledge for the development of skills that will help our children to face the challenges, thrown at them by the brave new world they will enter.

5. Inculcation of 21st century skills:

COMPUTER WORKSHOPMPublishers organised a workshop on computer education at Chandigarh on September P21,2018. Eighty teachers from fifty schools participated in the workshop which aimed to uphold the latest trend in computer learning and application in the field of education.
