Spring 40 Days for Life Campaign UnderwayAlthough officially starting on Ash Wednesday, February 26, the Jackson 40 Days for Life Campaign held a “pre-kickoff” event on Saturday, February 22 at Grace Baptist Church in Brandon, MS. 40 Days for Life coordinatorsBarbara Beavers and Tammy Tillman introduced the featured speaker Pastor Elvira Craig of Spring, Texas, wholeads the pro-life ministry “Voices for the Voiceless” as well as maintaining a popular blog, “Bible TeachingFellowship Ministries” with her husband, Pastor Carlton Craig.

Pastor Elvira became aware of the generational nature of the sin of abortion. She believes that for God to heal ourland of the guilt we have incurred for the shedding of the blood of innocent pre-born babies, the people of God musthumble themselves and pray for forgiveness for the abortions that our ancestors committed as well as for the onesthat are being committed today. She has been traveling state to state to intercede that God would cleanse and healthe land.

She came to Mississippi to locate “ground zero” - the place where abortions were first performed in the state, tolead a prayer walk around the location, and to bury scripture in the ground to reclaim the land for Jesus. Herresearch found that the first recorded abortions in Mississippi took place in the 1850’s at the Mississippi Asylum forthe Insane, located on the grounds of the University of Mississippi until it was relocated to Whitfield in 1935.

After a time of prayer, Pastors Elvira and Carlton led a group of people to UMMC for a prayer walk and the buryingof scripture verses.

“40 Days for Life fits in beautifully with Pastor Elvira’s call for prayer and repentance,” stated BarbaraBeavers. “The prayers and public witness of the Church during our 40 Days campaign can move God to heal ourland.”
