  • Plei -Tech Squeegees ! A critical aspect of screen printing is how well the.....................................................................................................: squeegee can resist durometer loss when exposed to

aggressive inks, and harsh solvents, while maintaining asharp print edge. Plei-Tech squeegees are available ina variety of polyurethane compounds individuallyformulated to perform in the diverse world of screenprinting.

    2

Plei-Tech 15 squeegees are recommended because oftheir chemical resistance and exceptional abrasionresistance when exposed to high solvent/monomercontent inks, while maintaining durometer. UV, epoxy, enamel, vinyl, and other solvent based inks are extremelyharsh on squeegee blades. Inferior squeegees tend todegrade at an accelerated rate due to their inability toresist harsh solvents.

Plei-Tech 22 squeegees are recommended for lessdemanding applications. Plei-Tech 22 performs wellwhen using Plastisol, water base, and less aggressive UVand solvent based inks that have a lesser effect onsqueegees. For printers using these inks, Plei-Tech 22offers the option of color coding for easy hardnessidentification by the printer.

Pleiger's squeegees are available in a multitude ofsqueegee profiles designed to meet the exactingdemands of your screen printing application.

All Pleiger polyurethanes are marketed under theregistered tradename Plei- Tech®

  • .......Squeegee ApplicationsGraphics - The Graphics market is a very diverse segmentof the screenprinting industry. Like this market, PleigerPlastics is also very diverse. We can combine any of ourprofiles along with a Plei-Tech polyurethane compoundformulated to work with any ink or substrate combination. We offer our solvent/monomer and abrasion resistantsqueegees in both our single durometer and multi-durometer configurations for the simple spot color to thecomplex four-color process or half-tone jobs.

CD/DVD - Compact Disc printing requires a closetolerance, solvent-resistant squeegee. Pleiger Plastics'polyurethane squeegees are ideal for these precisedemands. Our squeegees offer printers close tolerances, sharp edges, and squeegees that are free of surface defectsfor maximum repeatability and print detail.

    CD/DVD

Textile - The textile market varies from the hand printer tothe high speed automatic machine, from spot colors tointricate 4-color process designs as well as specialty inks toobscure substrates. Pleiger makes squeegees in alldimensions, profiles and durometer combinations to assistthe textile printer in achieving the desired effect tomaximize productivity.

Container - Bottle printing often requires a sharp edge forhigh definition on a wide variety of substrates. PleigerPlastics offers many bevel profiles to meet the demands ofany bottle printer. Whether printing with Plastisol,Conventional, UV, or Hot Melt inks, Pleiger can provide asqueegee to meet your most challenging demands. Ourbevel profiles provide the printer with a sharper edge forexceptional ink deposit and maximum definition.

    TEXTILE

PCB - The Printed Circuit Board industry requires asqueegee with close tolerances that can perform in a highspeed environment. Our highly solvent and abrasionresistant formulations of Plei-Tech 15 outperform othersqueegees in this application. These squeegees areformulated to exhibit minimum swelling, durometer loss, and high abrasion resistance, which makes them ideal forthis type of printing.

    Material Selection

Plei-Tech 22 performs well with most ink systems. It willdarken in color when exposed to UV and fluorescent lightat a slow rate. This change in color does not affect thephysical properties or the ink/solvent resistance of thepolyurethane. Available in 60A, 65A, 70A, 75A, 80A, 85Aand 90A hardnesses. The standard colors are: 55A Green,65A Orange, lOA Yellow, l5A Green, BOA Blue, B5A Red,and 90A Natural.

Plei-Tech 15 (Vulkollan) is typically used with moreaggressive solvent based ink systems or UV inks. Plei-Tech15 will darken in color while stored. A change in color maybe seen in as little as 24 hours when exposed to UV andfluorescent light. This color change enhances the physicalproperties and ink/solvent resistance of the polyurethane.Plei-Tech 15 is Amber. Available in 60A, lOA, l5A, BOA,B5A, and 90A hardnesses.

  • ............................................Maintenance& Storage

    ......................................................................

Achieving the best screen printing performance andproductivity is greatly de&endent on the selection of thecorrect Pleiger Plei-Tech R squeegee for the applicationand proper squeegee maintenance. When printing, monitor production time and rotate squeegees frequently.(The necessary rotation frequency is dependent on the ink/solvent system involved in the application.) When printingwith aggressive UV and solvent based inks, it may benecessary to change your squeegee more often. By doingso, you will achieve a more uniform print quality andincrease the life of your squeegees. A squeegee shouldalways be wiped clean and stored in a dry environment atroom temperatures following removal from the press. Theblade should be allowed to recover from the ink and solventattack and rest for a period of 24 hours. It can then beplaced back into production or if necessary, re-sharpenedand placed back into production.

Polyurethane Squeegees should always be stored flat in adry (50% Relative Humidity) environment at roomtemperature (approximately 65-75 degrees F). Storage attemperatures below 60 degrees F may show an increase indurometer. This increase has no influence on the physicalproperties or the performance of the squeegee. Underthese storage conditions, the shelf life of the squeegee isapproximately one year. Older squeegees often showincreased printing performance.

Durometer is one of the most critical aspects of a printingsqueegee. Squeegee durometer can be directly linked toexcess ink (smearing). streaking, or premature solventattack. For this reason we recommend a squeegeedurometer gauge be included in any quality controlprogram.

During normal use, a squeegee will lose hardness as a resultof monomer attack from the ink carrier. Shifting thedurometer will have significant effects on print quality andreproducibility. In addition to durometer loss, solventattack will reduce your squeegee's service life.
