WEEK 6 TERM 3 Commencing Monday 26th August 2019

We are now past the mid-point of what is an extremely dynamic and diverse Term 3 of the school year. It has been wonderful to watch the children from all classes engaged in so many learning experiences across the last few weeks and the varied nature of those experiences will only expand in the next five weeks of the term. Last week saw some amazing happenings in our community, highlighted by another wonderful Book Week Character Parade hosted in the Quadrangle on Friday. The theme of Book Week this year is ‘Reading is my Secret Power’ and the children certainly embraced the theme to produce some wonderful costumes. A huge vote of thanks is extended to the parents and carers who put in so much time and effort to help the children construct their costumes for the event and thanks also to the large number of community members who were in the school on Friday to support the children and join in all the fun of the parade. Congratulations is extended to the following students who received Scholastic Book Club Vouchers for their efforts: KC: Jamie Nardi and Madison Whyatt KE: Parker Mulloy and Kalani Greene KT: Lex Napier and Pippa Quigley 1C: Adam Rudd and Celeste Townsend-Mallinder 1DG: Zac Iannelli and Grace Goman 1HD: Ethan Curry and Eliose Robertson 2B: Isaac Stanley and Neveah Pardy 2M: Ben Bowyer and Ariahna Forrester 2/3H: Jason Mulloy and Lucy Gilmour 3H: Alexander Smith and Montana Keech 3/4Q: Bentley Forrester and Cooper Cussans 4T: Cruze Dale and Imogen Lang 4/5D: Koda Leech 5P: Kian Henman and Ruby Meline 6B: Tegan Coghill and Ruby Miller 6G: Adrian O’Brien and Jaida Crowe Last week was also a tremendous week for our school at the Leeton Eisteddfod, with our talented Primary Choir winning the student led section of the Eisteddfod and receiving a high commendation in the teacher led section of the event. Last week was als notable for the achievements of our two teams in the Premier’s Debating Challenge. The Parkview Cats (Ali Haider, Daniella Draper, Amelia Irvin and Taylah Axtill) and Parkview Giants (Eden Richardson, Benji Roden, Jy Mawer and Drew Browne) competed in the second round of the competition at Darlington Point last week. Both teams debated with distinction, producing well constructed and articulate arguments. At the conclusion of the day, the Parkvew Cats remained undefeated and have now progressed to the knockout stage of the competition after wins over Darlington Point, Leeton PS Thinkers and Leeton PS Talkers in recent weeks. We congratulate the children on this achievement.

Week 5 of the term also represesented the commencement of the Kindergarten 2020 Transition. There was great excitement with over 45 new Kindergarten children already registered and participating in the program. The children settled very quickly into the program and a wonderful first day of experiences at ‘big school’, with many of the children loving the opportunity to travel on the bus. If you are yet to register your child for Kindergarten 2019 Transition please read the information over the page. We’d love to have your child involved as we prepare for a great start to the new school year for our newest students!

Please consider the following as we plan for the new week:

Kindergarten 2020 Transition Kindergarten 2019 Transition continues this Wednesday. We encourage all parents and carers who are yet to register their children to do so in the coming couple of days ahead of the next day of transition. If you do not have a registration form or have misplaced yours, please contact the school’s Administration Office to secure your copy. Please contact the school if you have any questions or concerns in relation to this process.

P&C Father’s Day Stall The annual Father’s Day Stall will be hosted this Thursday (August 29) at school in the Library. A large range of reasonably priced gifts will be available for the kids to purchase for Dad on the day. Feel free to send the kids with some money so they can grab something special for Dad on his big day!

Father’s Day Lunch Our annual Father’s Day Lunch will be held at school this Thursday, 29th August. Lunch pre-orders were distributed last week and are due back at school tomorrow (Tuesday, 27th August). We look forward to seeing lots of Dads and other male role models in the school sharing lunch with the kids on this special day.

Parkview In Lights-PASTVIEW: A Journey Through Time Excitement is building ahead of our school’s performing arts extravaganza ‘Parkview In Lights’, being hosted at the LHS MPC on Tuesday, 3rd September. The theme for Parkview in Lights this year is ‘PASTVIEW: A Journey Through Time’. All students in the school will be involved with this concert in various ways with information linked to ticketing included in the article below. We are looking forward to an incredible show celebrating the performing arts talents of our children. Parkview In Lights Tickets Tickets for the highly anticipated Parkview In Lights production are still available from the School’s Administration Office. Details on how to secure these tickets were distributed in a flyer recently. As there is a maximum of 750 seats (with limited standing room areas) available in the venue at the Leeton HS MPC, it is necessary for the school to run a limited ticket allocation period. Tickets that have been reserved will be distributed this week (all additional ticket requests have been granted). All remaining tickets are now available to the general public or for Parkview families who are yet to reserve tickets. We advise families to secure their tickets soon as seats are filling fast!

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data - School Students

with Disability Parkview Public School and all schools across Australia will be involved in the Nationally Consistent

Collection of Data on School Students with Disability. The NCCD (the national data collection) is an

annual collection that counts the number of school students with a disability and the level of reasonable

educational adjustment they are provided with. The national data collection will count students who have

been identified as receiving an adjustment to address a disability under the Disability Discrimination Act

1992 (the DDA). The DDA can be accessed from the ComLaw website at www.comlaw.gov.au.

All schools across Australia collect information about students with disability. The information provided

through the national data collection will enable all Australian governments to better target support and

resources to benefit students with disability. For the purposes of the national data collection, students

who receive personalised learning interventions, as well as those with learning difficulties, speech,

vision and hearing difficulties, as well as chronic health conditions like epilepsy, diabetes or asthma,

that require active monitoring by the school, may be included. The definition of disability for the

national data collection is based on the broad definition under the DDA. Staff are currently collating this

data to enter on the register. An e-learning resource about the Disability Standards for Education 2005 is

freely available for the use of individuals, families and communities at

http://resource.dse.theeducationinstitute.edu.au/ How will my child’s privacy be protected?

Protecting the privacy and confidentiality of all students and their families is essential. Personal details

such as student names or other identifying information will not be provided to local or federal education

authorities.

If you have any concerns or you do not wish for your child to be included in this data can you please

contact Mr Irvin.

TALKING SPORT – WEEK 6, TERM 3

Leeton-Narrandera PSSA Athletics

Parkview’s representative track and field athletes have produced some outstanding results at the 2019 LNPSSA Athletics Championships held at the LHS Ovals last Monday. Parkview finished 2nd overall in the Overall Pointscore and Handicap Sections of the event and also finished runners up in the prestigious Ian Lucas Memorial Trophy (total accumulated handicap points for the 2019 School Year). Two Parkview students were crowned age champions on the day with Amelia Irvin (Senior Girls) and Tallis McMillan (Senior Boys) winning their respective divisions on the day. From the day, 24 Parkview students have qualified for the Riverina PSSA Athletics Championships to be held in Albury this coming Friday, 30th August. Thanks is extended to the large number of community members who attended the carnival to support our children.

Riverina Boys Soccer Semi Finals

Parkview Public School travelled to Hanwood Oval on Tuesday to compete in the Riverina Semi Finals of the NSWPSSA Knockout. The team won the toss and started out pushing forward into

their attacking zone. Dean De Valentin displayed excellent footwork and skill upfront, with Tallis McMillan and Salvatore Alampi controlling the play throughout the middle. Hanwood Public School started to build into the game and their attack lifted. Connor Holden and Charlie Watson worked hard in defence forcing many turnovers. Play continued in this manner, with the ball progressing back and forth. Cruze Dale displayed a fantastic work ethic on the wing, applying great pressure to the opposition. Hanwood continued to surge in attack and 19 minutes into the first half gained a penalty in the box and scored from the resulting one-on-one with the keeper. Parkview pushed forward again from the kick-off, but skilled passing from the opposition put the defensive line under pressure. Elijah Berney and Ben Watson added support to the defence, and wing Kyis Stevens-Davis covered lots of ground, getting back to cover. Luca Pitt made strong contests when he subbed into the striker role, however, Hanwood pushed again, finding space as the seconds ticked down, scoring a second goal right before the half-time siren. The second half was a similar battle to the first. Hanwood continued to utilise effective passes and early touches to find space. Displaying great skill, Hanwood scored from a cross into the box and a header into the goal at the 13thminute of the second half. Parkview were not giving up and continued to work hard. Jayden Fichera, Xavier Chilko, Eden Richardson and Vinnie Ward all contributed well to their team. Kobe O’Callaghan proved again to be very strong in goals, making fantastic saves and effecting some clearing kicks. Hanwood scored another two late goals to claim victory 5-0. We are very proud of the boys efforts in reaching the Riverina Semi Finals, the furtherest a Parkview Boys Soccer team has progressed in the State Knockout. Thanks is extended the community members who travelled to Griffith to support the team.
