Fried Rice FridayFun Day Friday 3 July To celebrate the end of a disrupted term we have arranged to have a bit of fun with the students on Friday.

We will kick off the day with Fried Rice for all students and staff from 11:20 - it is being made for them by the crew from Jenni’s Kitchen and supported by the students from 3-6 M.

The canteen will still be operating and those students who don’t like Fried Rice or have dietary requirements are able to bring their own food and drink for the day.

As part of a fun staff challenge about 30 of the staff have been learning to play the ukulele, they are going to perform for the students prior to our final assembly for the term.

We will also see some preliminary performances from our developing dance, recorder and guitar groups. These groups will be on full display at THE BIG SHOW.

We will host our last assembly outside on the oval and it will be followed by Terry’s Disco during our last break using our new outdoor stage area. Students will return to class and pack up for the term and the final session.

Green Team Two students from each class have been selected to be part of our environmental team at the school. They have been working with a number of staff around the school on various projects.

- Our bottle collecting and recycling has reached $550 and will be used to buy some new garden beds and seedlings for stage one. We will also purchase some vests for the Green team to wear when they are on duty.

- There are a number of garden beds operating around the school and compost bins for vegetable and fruit scraps.

- The general waste bins have been replaced with the red/yellow/green system and the students help sort and separate this waste to ensure it is reducing our landfill costs.

Hickeys Creek Adventureland With the relaxation of some of the COVID 19 guidelines we have been able to begin taking students back to Hickeys Creek. In term 4 we were disrupted by the fires, then it was too wet in Term 1, then COVID. Thankfully we have been able to resume most operations again.

The school has purchased an additional vehicle to support the classes and groups of students who go up to Adventureland as part of their studies.

There are some very specific and regular programs that take place as well as general visits by our classes and also other schools.

Resilience Rescue is a program targeted at leadership in our Stage 3 boys - they attend each week with Mrs Korn, Mr Heuston, Dylan and often have a range of special guests. At the moment Mr Cross is teaching the boys some woodworking skills and they are making habitat boxes to use for nests for some of our native birds and wildlife.

Links to Learning is a Stage 2 program involving all of the Stage 2 classes in a series of writing projects, where they explore a unique experience that they can only access at Hickeys Creek and then complete a series of writing tasks about that activity and related subjects. There is also an extension group that attends regularly with Mr Sandercock and Mrs Stevens.

General Visits each class visits throughout the term, Kindergarten have just had their opportunity to go and all classes will continue to visit throughout the remainder of the year. While they are at Adventureland, they have access to a range of age appropriate activities that they aren’t able to access easily at school.

- mountain bikes, off road bike tracks

- BMX bikes and scooters

- remote control cars and drones

- cooking and gardening

- bobsleds and go carts

- kick tennis and bike soccer

- mindfullness and meditation

- leatherwork and woodwork

- giant chess, Jenga and Connect 4
