BACKGROUND

Eanes ISD is a 1 to 1 district

All students K-12 have iPads

3rd graders were already reading buddies with kindergartners

OVERVIEW

Goal was for 3rd graders to mentor kindergartners using technology

3rd graders created picture book trailers using Animoto and shared them with kindergarten buddies

3rd graders mentored kindergarteners and created a collaborative picture book trailer

Kindergartners created their own book trailer

PART ONE

3rd graders chose picture books during library time

PART TWO

Within Animoto, students took the pictures indicated on their paper storyboard

TIP: Make sure iPad is portrait, not landscape before opening Animoto

Students skipped “Style and Music” until later

PART TWO

Students changed the “Outro” picture to the book cover

Students added text as indicated by their paper storyboard

Students returned to “Style and Music” for finishing touches

This is the stage we discussed matching the tone of the book to the style and music of the book trailer

PART TWO

As students finished, they brought their iPad for approval

Teachers previewed videos, making sure they matched the paper storyboard

Students made any necessary changes

Videos were saved to the teacher’s Animoto account

PART THREE

3rd graders shared their book trailers with kindergarten buddies

Kindergarteners chose picture books for the collaborative book trailer

Students read the book and created the paper storyboard together

PART FOUR

3rd graders mentored kindergarteners to create a collaborative book trailer

Kindergartners created their own book trailers at a later date
