The main reason for this newsletter is toremind everyone about the 1/200meeting in Coventry on the 14th October.

I am very grateful to those who havealready said they will be attending fromconsiderable distances . Ron Crawford(and his wife Louise) of HBM models willbe coming from Vermont, USA. PeterKrtina of Hai models is coming fromAustria and Peter Jongbloed from theNetherlands. I hope many more will bejoining them.

Unfortunately, the aviation fair will notbe on at the same time as us. It was sosuccessful last year that they are usingall the spaces, including the room weuse, this year. It does mean it is easierto look round the museum and get atable in the cafe.

When you arrive, say you are attendingthe meeting and you will not be requiredto pay the entrance fee to the museum.Please do pay the £2.50 for therefreshments in the meeting as it helpstowards costs and is the only way to tellhow many people attended.

We aim to be set up and ready soon after10am and start to pack up when it getsquiet which is soon after 2pm. Some ofus have a long journey and want to beaway before the Sunday evening rush.

I hope that the following will be able toattend and take a table.

Wojtek, who will unveil two exciting newmodels covering civil and militarysubjects.

Martin Beacom hopes to attend, as doesPaul Howard from Helmet. Geoff Noblehas a number of finished models for saleand Martyn Redway and Steve hope tobring a new Korean War wargame.Aviation writer and photographer andAeroplane Monthly columnist DenisCalvert should also be present. Therewill be a table available for others to useto display, sell and swop models. I doask that if you do sell any models youmake a contribution towards theconsiderable costs of holding themeeting.

I hope to have kits ready of the models thatDerek Barratt did not manage to produce.Four of the small models are being sold as apairs to make the costs sensible. I have hadthese cast in resin to make them affordableand they have either metal undercarriage orcarbon fibre reinforced resin ones. At themoment I have 15 sets of each model to makethe exercise affordable. Some are alreadyspoken for so don’t delay. I will have moredone if there is demand but this will take time.

As I will have the pleasure of driving Ron andLouise to and from the meeting I will have lessspace in the car and so will NOT be bringingboxes of Shed Decals with me. I will be veryhappy to bring ordered decals if you contactme in advance. Similarly, if you wish for anyolder Shed Models, I will be happy to bringthem to the meeting but will not be able tobring other supplies with me. Ron says he islooking forward to meeting you all.

An inconsiderate neighbour has made somuch water go on and under the shed of ShedModels that the floor and roof have rotted andI am having to replace it. This means I will notbe able to have finished sample models ondisplay. My airbrush is out of action for theduration of the change over.

I will also try to sort out some of the othercastings that Derek had accumulated butnever got round to building.

All the new models are of aircraft close toDerek’s heart but may be less well known tosome of us.

The F101, F102, F104, F105, F106 and FordTrimotor need no explanation.

The Aerocar was a car that converted into aplane and was often photographed withHollywood stars.

The Cosmic Wind was one of the tiny racingplanes. One can still be seen in flyingcondition at Duxford.

The Bellanca Air Cruiser was known as theC27 Airbus in USAAF service where it hadthe blue and yellow colour scheme.

There were many variations of the DornierWal monoplane flying Boat. This one is theone used in Artic exploration.

The Junkers J1 of 1915 was known as theTin Donkey and was the first practical allmetal aircraft.

The D1/J9 was the first all metal fighter togo into service but proved to be not verymanoeuvrable.

The W34 can be made as wheeled or floatand was an important prewar transport.

Hustler

Unfortunately, so far, there have been fewrequests for Hustler recasts so it is on holdat the moment.

Dassault Mercure

A number of people have asked if I wouldmake a Dassault Mercure. I have said that Iwould go ahead if I had at least 20 orderswith deposits paid. The kit would bebetween £40 and £60 according to thenumber ordered. I would have to ask for adeposit as I still have a stack of biplanes thatpeople asked for but did not buy.

If you are not familiar with the Mercure, thinkof it as the French 737.

So far I have had 12 statements of intent.Let me know if you are interested.
