Application Login

#1 Login - After launching your PlayerLync app, you are presented with a login screen. (The username and password

will be provided by your organization's PlayerLync administrator.)

#2 Server Communication Status - Once logged in, you can view the communication status on the HOME screen.

Depending on your iPad connection status, you will see one of the following terms:

ServerLync - Your iPad is able to successfully communicate with the PlayerLync server. From here, you can login

with your username and password. You will be able to access downloaded content from inside the app. If new

content has been sent to your account, your iPad will automatically download them while in this state.

LocalLync - Your iPad is unable to communicate with the PlayerLync server. As long as you have used the

application recently, you can login with your username and password. You will be able to access all downloaded

content from inside the PlayerLync app, however you will not receive any new files during this period.

TravelLync13 or TravelLync14 - Your iPad is able to successfully communicate with your administrator's mobile

PlayerLync server (RemoteLync) through their TravelLync hotspot. You can login with your username and

password. You will then have access to all downloaded content from inside the app. If new content has been sent

to your account, your iPad will automatically begin downloading the content.

Home Screen

#1 Content Columns - Any content your organization sends to your iPad can be accessed from these columns. Tap

the column title to expand or collapse all of the folders in that column.

#2 Content Section Headers - Each folder contains files. Tap the folder's title (known as the 'section header') to

expand or collapse that folder and view the accessible files.

#3 Server Communication Status - Basic communication information with regard to your PlayerLync app and

storage space currently used and available on the entire device.

#4 Navigation Bar - These are the main navigation buttons for your PlayerLync app.

#5 Top Bar - Each of the tools located here were designed to help you easily find content that has been sent to your

PlayerLync app.

Search - Tap and type in this field to find specific content by file name. As you type each character, results will be

instantly filtered to match. Tap the 'X' to clear your search term.

Favorites - Once content is marked as a favorite, tap the star to display only those favorite files. Tap the star again

to clear the selection and display all of your files.

Recent Files - Tap this button to expose a list of all recently opened and recently downloaded files.

? - Tap the question mark throughout your PlayerLync app to see a functionality overlay specific to that screen.

Tap anywhere on the screen to close the overlay.

Settings - Options on this pop-up include the ability to view your PlayerLync app version number, reset your

password or manually logout of the app.

Document Reader

Document Toolbar

Once a document is opened for viewing, you have the ability to add notes, drawings and other mark-ups. You can then

share those with other users in your organization.

#1 Annotation Tools - Various tools to provide a way for you to annotate on a document. This will not affect the

original document and unless shared with other users, only you will see your annotations.

#2 Document Navigation

Annotations List - Complete list of all annotations you have added to the open document.

Document Index - If the document was indexed in a program such as Microsoft® Word, the index will be available

and usable from this button.

Bookmark List - Access a list of all bookmark annotations you have added to the document.

Document Page Scroll - If you are looking to navigate to a specific page in the document, use this tool to quickly

jump to that page.

Word Search - Enter a word here to search for instances of it in the document. You can then use arrows to jump

ahead to each usage of that word.

#3 User-Specific Tools

Laser Finger - Use this tool to have a red digital dot display whenever you are touching the screen. This works

great when sharing your iPad screen through an AppleTV®.

Document Rotation Lock - Don't want to lock the entire device rotation? You can use this tool to lock ONLY the

document reader for that document.

Favorite - Tap to mark the document as a favorite. This will place a corresponding star on the HOME screen next

to the file name.

Document Options - Access the document reader options. (See Document Options section in this user manual)

? - Tap the question mark throughout your PlayerLync app to see a functionality overlay specific to that screen.

Tap anywhere on the screen to close the overlay.

Touch Gestures - Along with the details listed above, the document reader also allows for zooming in or out of the

document by pinching your fingers together (or spreading apart) while touching the screen. Text on the document will

re-focus once you have let go. (Images may lose quality when zooming).

Document Options

Document reader options allow you to customize your document viewing preferences.

#1 Show Page Controls - Adds left and right arrows to your document. Provides alternate way to navigate document

pages. This option works in both continuous scroll and single page modes.

#2 Single Page Mode - Selecting this option will turn-off continuous scroll mode. You will then view one page at a

time and be able to swipe left or right like turning pages in a book.

#3 Show Annotations - Select this option to hide or display the document annotations. (This option is ON by default)

#4 Reset Annotations - Tap this button to re-download all backed up annotations from your PlayerLync server.

With the exception of 'Show Annotations', your choices will remain set until you alter them. This is a per user / per iPad

setting.

Annotation Sharing

#1 Annotation List - Tap to display all annotations you have added to the document.

#2 Select Annotation - Tap to select one or more annotations to share with another user.

#3 Select All - Tap here to select all annotations to share with another user.

#4 Shared Annotation - Tap the blue information icon to see a list of users you have shared the annotation with. You

can also revoke the share from an individual on that screen.

#5 Actions - Use one of the following actions after selecting one or more annotations from the list.

Unshare - If you have already shared annotations with another user, tap this button to revoke the shared

annotation from all recipients

Share - Tap this button to share the selected annotations with other user's in your organization. You will be

presented with a box to type names or groupings of other users.

Delete - Tap this button to delete the selected annotations from the document.

Please note - Deleting annotations is permanent.

Video Player

Video Player Toolbar

#1 Video List - To open another video, use this list to access all videos displayed on the HOME screen.

#2 Plays - If your video has any sports play data, this is where you access the play data grid to apply filters and

sort options.

#3 Draw - Similar to annotating on documents, this provides a smaller set of tools for adding telestrations to a video.

#4 Misc Tools

Message Inbox - If you have sent and received messages relating to a single video, this will act as a specific inbox

for that video only.

Compose New Message - Tap to compose a new message to another user.

Favorite - Tap to mark the video as a favorite. This will place a corresponding star on the HOME screen next

to the file name.

#5 Playback Thumb Controls

Left-side - The default thumb controls on the left offer fast-forward, rewind, play/pause, slow-motion (in reverse)

options.

Right-side - The default thumb controls on the right offer a speed-slider. Sliding-up advances the video forward,

while sliding down will rewind the video - both at various speeds.

#6 Playback Scrubber Bar - The playback ball can be dragged to a specific place while the video is playing. If you

do not want to view the scrubber bar on the screen you can slide the horizontal control down (#6 in the example).

To display the scrubber bar again after it's been hidden, double-tap the horizontal control. (sliding up will load the

iOS Notification Center)

#7 Bottom Bar (from left to right)

AirPlay® - If your iPad is on the same network as an AppleTV®, this icon will be visible and offer an option of

sending the video to that device. If you do not see this icon, then iPad does not see an AppleTV.

Rewind - Tap to turn on rewind control (this will continuously rewind until Play is tapped)

Play/Pause - Simple play and pause functionality

Fast Forward - Tap to turn on fast-forward control (this will continuously fast-forward until Play is tapped)

CoachLync - If your organization subscribed to this PlayerLync module, your icon will be bright red. (See the

CoachLync section to learn more)

#8 Touch Gestures - The following video player controls are available by touching the screen:

Play/Pause - With a single finger, tap in the center of the video once. This will either pause or play the video

depending on the state you were in.

Zoom - Pinch or separate your fingers to zoom in or out on the video.

Move Video - While the video is zoomed-in, use two fingers held together and drag the video around in order to

bring a specific portion of the video to the center of the screen.

Reset from Zoom - Using one finger, double-tap the center of the video. This will reset the video to the original

resolution.

Video Player: Play Data

#1 Plays - If your video has any sports play data, this is where you access the play data grid to apply filters and

sort options.

#2 Play Data Grid - Move the data grid around by dragging to the desired location. Tapping a line-item will close the grid

and begin playback of the selected row.

#3 Sort Data - Tap the column title (green text) to sort the data by that column. You can continue to tap additional

column titles to add additional sorting.

#4 Filter Data - Tap the small white filter icon to be presented with a filter box. This provides a way to filter the data to

only display rows that correspond to the filter you selected.

#5 Reset Sorting and Filters - Tap one or both of these to remove all sorting and filtering.

Video Player: Options

#1 Preview Window - Selections made using options on the right side of this page will provide a preview of how they

will be displayed on the video player once you tap Done.

#2 Frame-by-Frame - If your organization purchased PlayerLync Penguin Bluetooth Remotes, this option allows you

to use the remote for frame-by-frame viewing.

#3 Show Messages - If you have been sending messages pertaining to the video and you wish to hide them from

display while the video is playing, slide this control off.

#4 Thumb Control Options - Hide thumb controls completely or tap the 'Change Thumb Controls' button to display an

alternate set of controls.

#5 Play All Views - If your video contains multiple views of the same content and you want to watch all of them, slide

this on. If this option is off, you will only see the first view of each clip.

Sync Screen

When your PlayerLync app checks-in and identifies new content for your iPad, the SYNC screen is where you will find a

list of the currently downloading files.

#1 File Download Queue - This is a list of actively queued files that are downloading to your PlayerLync app.

#2 Download Priority Trigger - Files are downloaded by smallest size first. If you wish to receive a file faster (and that

file is farther down the queue), you can tap the lightning bolt to place that file at the top of the list. The sync will stop

and re-prioritize based on your selection.

#3 Server Communication Status - Basic connection information with regard to the PlayerLync app.

#4 Download Activity Status - When files are actively downloading to your app, this information will be updated live

to reflect download details.

#5 Files currently in your PlayerLync App - Storage space in use by your PlayerLync app, broken down by file type.

#6 Sync Now - Tap to force your PlayerLync app to check-in to the server. You do NOT need to tap this button for your

PlayerLync app to check-in automatically. It will check-in regularly on it's own, while also updating the time stamp

above this button.

#7 Self-Serve Video - Tap to launch your organization's Video Library. (See Self-Serve Video in the next section of

this User Guide for details)

PlayerLync App Check-ins

The app will communicate with the PlayerLync server looking for downloads.

Sports Organizations

5 minutes - Your iPad is... joined to WiFi, the PlayerLync app is open and you are actively using it

10 minutes - Your iPad is... joined to WiFi, the PlayerLync app is open in the background (even if iPad is sleeping)

Non-Sports Organizations

30 minutes - Your iPad is... joined to WiFi, the PlayerLync app is open and you are actively using it

30 minutes - Your iPad is... joined to WiFi, the PlayerLync app is open in the background (even if iPad is sleeping)

Best Practice - Leave your iPad plugged-in to power overnight to ensure the device doesn't power off due to low

battery. If this happens, you will not receive any new content.

Self-Serve Video

The Self-Serve Video module provides a way for you to access and download video files as you need them. Files located

in this library are not typically sent to your iPad automatically.

Navigate to your organization's Video Library:

> Tap SYNC on the bottom bar > Tap 'Self-Serve Video' in the bottom right corner.

#1 Self-Serve Video Library - This folder structure is defined by your organization's PlayerLync administrator. If you

cannot locate a file in this structure, please contact that individual.

#2 Video Files - Once you find the file (s) you want to download, check the box next to the file name. Next, tap the

'Download Files' button to have those files added to your download queue.

#3 Video File Search - If you are looking for a specific video title, you can search here using one or more words in the

file name.

#4 Section Header - (Optional) If you would like the downloaded files to appear on your HOME screen under a

section header you can define, enter that section header title here before tapping 'Download Files' .

#5 Close - Once you have added files to your queue, tap this button to return to the SYNC screen. Your PlayerLync

app will immediately check-in and begin to download the selected videos.

Important Notes

A) If you do not see a 'Self-Serve Video' button in the bottom right corner of your SYNC screen, please contact your

organization's PlayerLync administrator.

B) Files downloaded here are temporarily added to your iPad and will self-expire after a specified amount of time.

Contact your organization's PlayerLync administrator to learn more about that expiration time. If you would like

to view a file again, simply come to the Self-Serve Video menu and download the file at your convenience.

Messaging (Add-on Module)

The Messaging module allows users to communicate with each other in a secure, closed system. Messages cannot be

sent to email addresses. Other than text being sent via SMS to a mobile phone, no information can be sent outside of

your PlayerLync environment.

#1 List of Boxes - Tap this to see your Inbox, Unread Messages, Sent Messages, Outbox. The default is Inbox.

#2 Messages Toolbox (from left to right)

Mark Unread - After selecting a message from the list, tap this button in order to mark a message as unread. The

number of unread messages will be displayed in a red bubble on the MESSAGES menu button (HOME screen),

and also the PlayerLync icon on your iPad desktop.

Reply - Tap here to reply to the selected message.

? - Tap the question mark throughout your PlayerLync app to see a functionality overlay specific to that screen.

Tap anywhere on the screen to close the overlay.

New Message - Tap to compose a new message to another user.

#3 Message List - This is the list of messages as it relates to the selected box above (Inbox, Unread Messages, Sent

Messages, Outbox).

#4 Conversation View - Messages will be displayed in a conversation format. This means they will stack on top of

each other then show a number (example above has the number 2) on the message in the list on the left. Newest

messages are displayed first.

Compose a Message

These are the fields available when sending a message to another user in your organization's PlayerLync system.

#1 Type-ahead Address Book - Begin typing the name of another user or Team in this field. As you continue typing,

options will limit to what you are entering. Tap the name to complete the adding process.

#2 Organization Address Book - Tap the + button to see your organization's address book. You can ONLY send to

other users in your organization's PlayerLync environment.

#3 Message Subject - Enter the subject of your message here.

#4 CC Text - Swipe here to send the message to the recipient's PlayerLync inbox, and to send the Subject and Body

of the message to their mobile phone as an SMS message.

#5 Audio Message - Tap the microphone to start/stop recording. This allows you to send up to a 3 minute audio

message to another user.

#6 Message Body - This is the main location where you will type your message. Very much like email.

Calendar (Add-on Module)

Calendaring provides a way for your organization to publish private calendars relating to organizational activities. If

you have been added to a PlayerLync Calendar by one of your organization's PlayerLync administrators, you will be

prompted to subscribe to that calendar the next time you login. PlayerLync uses the default Apple iCal® method for

Calendaring in the app. This means any calendars already on your iPad will also be visible from inside of your PlayerLync

app.

#1 Top Bar - The 'Today' button will return you to the current date. The + button provides a way for you to add

calendar entries to your own personal calendar on the iPad. Events added to the calendar using this method will

not be published out to any other users.

#2 Views: Week / Month - Switch between week and month view of the displayed calendars.

#3 Events - Tap an individual event to open and view details.

#4 Calendars List - Tap to display a complete list of all calendars on your iPad. Tap the name of the calendar to have

it displayed. Tap the circle-i button to change the color of the calendar.

#5 Subscribed Calendars - Calendars that have been published to your PlayerLync account are listed here. Tap the

name of the calendar to make it viewable.

Control over notifications regarding upcoming events is determined by iOS ®. Follow the below steps to ensure

calendar notifications are activated.

Calendar Reminders

1. Open the SETTINGS app on iPad (the default iOS Settings - not inside your PlayerLync app)

2. Scroll down to 'Mail, Contacts & Calendars' in the left menu

3. Under the list of Accounts, scroll until you see the Calendars section. There is a menu item titled 'Default Alert

Times'. Whatever is selected here for Alerts will determine when you are notified of approaching calendar events.

Intranet (Add-on Module)

The Intranet module provides a way for your organization to present commonly visited internet websites or internal

web-based tools without having to leave the PlayerLync app.

#1 Intranet Navigation Bar - This home button will bring you back to the page displayed above if you have navigated

to a link. Reload the page to refresh displayed icons. The arrows will navigate forward or backward if you have

been moving between sites.

#2 Intranet Links - The links here have been defined by your organization. To inquire about adding or removing a

link, please contact your organization's PlayerLync administrator.

#3 Intranet Status - ONLINE or OFFLINE will be displayed here depending on your current internet access. Please

remember that your iPad will need to have internet access to use this module.

MyVideo (Add-on Module)

MyVideo provides the ability for you to create a new video using the built-in camera on your iPad. You can send that

video to another user using the PlayerLync app.

#1 VIDEO Modules - These two tabs will take you between the MyVideo and CoachLync modules.

#2 Send Video - Tap this icon to send your MyVideo recording to another user in your organization.

#3 Quality Settings - You can select 1 of 3 different video quality settings before creating a new recording. The

default setting is Medium.

#4 MyVideo Files List - After you have created new MyVideo recordings, they will appear in this list. Swipe the file

name to manually delete a MyVideo recording and it will not re-download from the server.

#5 Microphone - Tap to activate or deactivate iPad's built-in microphone before starting a new video recording. The

default setting is ON.

How To: Create a New MyVideo Recording

1. Navigate to the VIDEO menu on the bottom bar of the HOME screen

2. Make sure the module selected at the top of this windows is MyVideo (as seen in #1 above)

3. Determine if you want the iPad to also record audio using the microphone and set accordingly. The default

setting is ON.

4. When ready, tap the record button (as seen in #6 above) and create your video - tapping the stop button when

finished (the record button will become the stop button while recording is active)

5. You will be asked if you want to keep or discard your new recording. You can also use this time to name the

video. The default name is 'My Video'. Your username and the current date/time will also be appended to the

name of the file (as seen in #4 of the diagram).

Important Notes

A) MyVideo recordings are temporarily displayed on your iPad and will self-expire after a specified amount of time.

Contact your organization's PlayerLync administrator to learn more about that expiration time and to have them

retrieve an expired recording.

B) MyVideo recordings are backed-up to the server during the normal check-in interval. If you have created a

recording when IPad was not connected to the server, your video will upload the next time your PlayerLync app

checks-in. This must take place prior to the file self-expiring from iPad or your recording will not be backed-up to

the server for later retrieval.

How To: Send Your MyVideo Recording to Another User

1. After you have completed the recording and you see it appear in the MyVideo Files list, tap the name of the video

you want to send.

2. The file will begin playing immediately - you can tap the pause button to stop playback. This is so you can review

the content before sending to another user.

3. Tap the 'Send Video' icon in the top right above the video playback window (as seen in #2 above)

4. Fill out the message TO: field and add any other information to the message you want the other person to receive.

5. Tap SEND

6. When the other user's PlayerLync app checks-in to the server, it will download your file. The completed download

will display on their HOME screen under a section header named with YOUR username.

Important Notes

A) MyVideo recordings sent to other users are temporarily displayed on their iPad and will self-expire after a specified

amount of time. Contact your organization's PlayerLync administrator to learn more.

CoachLync (Add-on Module)

CoachLync was designed to provide a way for someone to take an existing video (already on iPad) and add verbal

#1 VIDEO Modules - These two tabs will take you between the MyVideo and CoachLync modules.

#2 CoachLync Files List - After you have created new CoachLync recordings, they will appear in this list. Swipe the file

name to manually delete a CoachLync recording and it will not re-download from the server.

#3 Send Video - Tap this icon to send your CoachLync recording to another PlayerLync user in your organization.

Important Notes

A) The microphone is always on while recording a CoachLync video and cannot be disabled.

How To: Create a New CoachLync Recording

1. Select a video from the HOME screen and open it to begin playback. Reminder: The microphone is always on

while recording a CoachLync video and cannot be disabled.

2. When ready, tap the red record button in the bottom right corner of the video player. (your screen and

microphone are now being recorded - and will display a notice at the top of the window)

3. Use the normal video playback and telestration tools to add mark-up to the video.

4. When you are done creating your video, tap the same red button in the bottom right corner of the video player.

iPad will have to process the video/audio before you can send it. Tap the 'Close' button on your video player.

5. You will now be able to see your CoachLync recording displayed by navigating to the VIDEO menu from the

bottom bar of the HOME screen.

Important Notes

A) CoachLync recordings are temporarily displayed on your iPad and will self-expire after a specified amount of time.

Contact your organization's PlayerLync administrator to learn more about that expiration time and to have them

retrieve a recording that has already expired.

B) CoachLync recordings are backed-up to the server during the normal check-in interval. If you have created a

recording when your IPad was not connected to the server, your video will upload the next time your app is able to

check-in. This must take place prior to the file self-expiring from your iPad or your recording will not be backed-up

to the server for later retrieval.

C) CoachLync recordings cannot be re-named. They will take on the name of the source video and append the

current date/time stamp.

How To: Send Your CoachLync Recording to Another User

1. After you have created your recording and you see it appear in the CoachLync Files list , tap the name of the

video you want to send.

2. The file will begin playing immediately - you can tap the pause button to stop playback. This is so you can

review the content before sending to another user.

3. Tap the 'Send Video' icon in the top right above the video playback window (as seen in #3 above)

4. Fill out the message TO: field and add any other information to the message you want the other person to receive.

5. Tap SEND

6. When the other user's PlayerLync app checks-in to the server, it will download your file. The completed download

will display on their HOME screen under a section header named with YOUR username.

A) CoachLync recordings sent to other users are temporarily displayed on their iPad and will self-expire after a

specified amount of time. Contact your organization's PlayerLync administrator to learn more.
