CHICAGO—Play In A Book announces the release of Shakespeare’s “Macbeth”, adapted for Grades 6 - 8 and the fifth release in the Act It Read It Series of drama based readers. This release features a full a d a p t a t i o n b y James Krag that includes a prose “Read It” section and a five act script developed for use in the classroom—and beyond. Also featured are o r i g i n a l c o l o r illustrations by Lewis Achenbach. Laura St. John edits Vol. 8 of the 10 book Act It Read It Series she developed starting in 2011. “By collaborating with James and Lewis, Play In A Book was able to allow the series to develop in an interesting way,” said Laura. “We’re bringing more elements into telling the story. For instance, I don’t know if my illustrations would have worked with this audience. I think James has more expertise with the text than I could have reached.” “This was a fun project to do,” she continued. “I was aware that I wanted to continue collaborating with our production team. Working on this book allowed me to learn more about the collaborative process. I am eager to do more of this sort of thing.” Each fully illustrated book of the series (available through Amazon and direct from Play In A Book) retells a classic tale and includes a full five-act script so students can get the story up on its legs and onstage! The value added through repetition by the Play In A Book rehearsal process, increases fluency, word recognition, and phonological awareness, while assisting with the development of other critical reading skills. The Act It Read It Series aligns fully with Common Core Standards. This release of “Macbeth” is intended as an age appropriate introduction to Shakespeare. Along with an accompanying classroom program or professional development session conducted by Play In A Book’s ensemble of Classroom Actors, this text can furnish a bit of the Bard and serve as an introduction to the stage for students. With this release, Play In A Book may now span K - 8th grades. In February, the Chicago publisher released The Act It Read It K-1 Series: The Three City Goats Gruff, as adapted from their first release “The Three City Goats Gruff” from August, 2011. Play In A Book has reached over 2300 students in 1 5 separate schools since its launch. Play In A Book is an Arts Partner that works to assist each school they work with in receiving its best Creative Schools certification.
