PGL Year 10

Visit

Last weekend Mr Birks-Agnew and

Miss Chant took a group of Year 10

students to PGL Windmill Hill near

Battle. The aim of the trip was to

build confidence, resilience,

teamwork and relationships by

pushing the students in unfamiliar

settings and by taking part in

activities that took them out of

their comfort zone. On the Friday

students took part in abseiling

which included some competitive

games while suspended halfway

down the wall, and the zip wire.

On Saturday morning, the students

worked with Mr Birks-Agnew and

Miss Chant on overcoming exam

challenges. Following on from the

theme of worship they thought

about their own goals and why they

wanted to get good GCSE results.

They also collated as a group the

challenges they have with exams and

revision and worked on supporting

each other by providing solutions.

The study skills finished with some

exercises on speed reading and

summarising, and also looking at

what command words in exams

actually mean. There were some

excellent ideas that came from this

morning session which Mr Taylor

will share with KS4 parents, and we

also identified some things we need

to do in form time to support Year

10 as they approach their next set

of PPEs in June. On the Saturday

afternoon students took part in

more activities, this time the zip

wire and some air rifle shooting.

The students were a credit to

themselves and the school.

Matthew “Patience is a virtue".

Ellie " You need to have a growth

mind-set".

Daniella " I have had such a lovely

weekend".

Le Café – French

Play Our school hall was turned into a

French theatre last week when

visiting actors took to the stage in a

production of ‘Le Café’. All students

who study French in Years 8, 9 and

10 were able to watch ‘French actors

in a French farce. There were many

costume changes and students

enjoyed watching the play which was

conducted totally in French.

Education for life in all its fullness

Well done to all our participants

who were chosen from the audience

to converse in French, order drinks,

and assemble a mannequin dummy!

We look forward to our Spanish play

later this month.

Grill a Christian On Tuesday 6th June at lunchtime

we will be holding our final “Grill a

Christian” event of the year! We

are very lucky to have two great

guests coming in to join the panel;

Daniel Seven from Rebirth Dance

(who performed for the students on

the day of our official school

opening ceremony) and Charlie

Ingram, the minister at Bessels

Green Baptist Church. They will be

joined by Mr Archer and Angus

(Year 9) to face questions from our

students. Please encourage your

children to come along.

GCSE Religious

Education Should we eat meat? What is

factory farming? How did the

universe begin? Why do we suffer?

Does life begin? What is terrorism?

Is there evidence for immortality?

These are some of the religious and

moral questions that will be

explored during the next few

months of KS4 Religious Education.

Students will learn how religious

people from different traditions

approach such questions, before

forming their own opinions.

Religious Education is an important

subject whereby all students can

express their opinion and

communicate coherent arguments

surrounding sensitive issues. The

GCSE allows students to identify,

investigate and respond to

fundamental questions of life raised

by religion and human experience.

At times there may be some hard

questions that may be difficult to

reach a judgement and these

discussions may be carried on

outside of the classroom. Please

contact Miss E Chant (Head of RE)

if there are any queries or questions

in relation to these topics.

Careers Next week the students at Trinity

will be participating in ‘careers

week’. Pupils will be engaged in

Education for life in all its fullness

activities during lessons and

morning form time. Subject teachers

will be delivering talks about the

various career choices in their

subjects. Form time will be used to

look at skills and career choices in

KS3. At KS4 students will look at

developing a CV.

The school website has been

updated to incorporate a careers

page. The page contains lots of

information to allow students to be

proactive in their career choices.

Information can be found at

www.trinitysevenoaks.org.uk/curric

ulum/careers/

Faraday House

Day Faraday will be holding their House

charity day on Friday 26th May.

Students can pay £1 to come to

school in their own clothes for the

day.

Our two House charities are

Cancer Research and The Stein

Foundation. The Stein Foundation

is a charity in memory of Isiah Stein

who was a Freedom Fighter against

Apartheid in South Africa,

campaigning alongside Nelson

Mandela. He and his family came to

England in 1968 as political refugees,

but he still remained a strong

advocate for racial equality all his

life. Three of his children became

professional footballers and the

charity uses sport as a way of

helping educate young people in

Cape Town. They are building a

community hall attached to a

primary school in Cape Town

providing a space for both the

school and community to use. It

will also be able to provide hot

meals for the students, which for

many this would be the only hot

meal they would have in the day.

Mark Stein played for Chelsea,

Stoke and then Bournemouth

towards the end of his career. He

has been kind enough to donate a

signed current Bournemouth

football top for us to raffle.

The top was specially made for

Mark and has been signed by all the

players and Manager, Eddie Howe.

Raffle tickets will be £1 each and

can be bought from George and

Hannah, our Year 10 House

Captains or Ms Loveridge and the

number will be drawn at lunchtime

on Friday.

Please help us to support our two

charities by encouraging the

students to bring in their loose

change in order to participate in all

the activities and stalls that will be

running at lunchtime.

Ms Loveridge

Watoto Choir Thursday was a very special day as

we spent it in the company of some

truly amazing people. The 17

children from Watoto and the

adults who care for them were a joy

to be around and put on two

amazing performances for us.

During the school day, all our staff

and students were treated to a

show that even had the teachers

dancing! It was wonderful to hear

their story and to hear the children

sing.

In the evening, we had a longer

concert in which we heard all about

how Watoto works and the

amazing things they are doing for

communities and individuals in

Uganda. There was an opportunity

to donate and just over £1500 was

raised (before gift aid) by the

generous people who came to

watch.

Education for life in all its fullness

There was also an opportunity to

sponser a child or mother and

opportunities to buy merchandise.

It was an amazing day, and one I am

sure none of us will forget for a long

time. We wish the Choir the very

best as they continue their tour and

pray that the work of Watoto will

go from strength to strength

Termly Maths

Chaplaincy

“Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my

hope comes from him. Truly he is

my rock and my salvation; he is my

fortress, I will not be shaken.” Psalm 52:5-6

We have had a busy week at Trinity

with some truly wonderful

moments! It was a joy to have

Watoto Children’s Choir with us

and to hear their inspirational

stories as well as their fantastic

singing. And so, today we have a

little reminder in the above Bible

verse that we can find both rest and

security in God, even in the busy or

hard times.

Giving thanks for:

The wonderful Watoto

Children’s Choir and all

who support them

Our amazing staff,

governors and volunteers

who work so hard

Praying for:

All the members of our

Trinity family

All our students who will be

taking exams before the end

of the academic year

Many thanks and God bless,

Alice
