How does this relate to my music video?

• The first thing that springs to mind after conducting this research meaning is product placement within the video, e.g. in one shot the artist could have her finger hovered over the Spotify icon on her smartphone and another shot could be her playing her song on the service; then allowing the actual song to begin. This would definitely boost the amount of plays the song receives on Spotify as the artist is endorsing it- giving the artist greater exposure.

• Furthermore, it emphasises that the artist is indeed a new artist as established artists are likely to endorse iTunes rather than Spotify as Spotify is a streaming service that is financially less rewarding.

• However, a new aspiring artist is not worried about how much money they are making but instead focused on promoting themselves to the position to which they can then worry about the financial side.

• An example of this is Taylor Swift who, now at the peak of her popularity, removed her back catalogue from Spotify after finding personal fault with the allowance of free streaming. Therefore it would make more sense to promote a service like Spotify rather than iTunes as a song is more likely to gain more streams than it does legal downloads.

Beats product placement• Beats headphones prove to be one of the ideal product placements for a new

artist. The Beats brand has elevated beyond just being headphones, but has quickly becoming a fashion statement for those who want to look ‘cool’.

• The beats brand can be linked predominantly to artists from the Rap, hip-hop and R&B genres such as Dr Dre, Lil Wayne, Eminem & Jay-Z. Having my artist wear this product is like putting her on the same level as these ‘rap-gods’ which would elevate her social status and appeal to a wider audience of fans. My artist is an R&B singer so it makes the most sense to endorse Beats rather than a product like Sony who has less presence in the marketing of headphones.

• As an added bonus, Beats may also offer their services for free as endorsing their product is also guaranteed to contribute to sales. In return we’d make sure we do close-ups on the headphones; specifically their logo. An example of this trade can be seen in music videos by artists such as “Silento – Watch me whip”
