Over the past two years I have been participating actively in various EDSA projects as a Delegate, Co-editor of the EDSA Magazine and General Secretary. Besides the administrative work, I have been representing and promoting EDSA at international conferences in Europe and the US, discussing ways of collaboration with partners and developing projects. I have been editing EDSA's publications, contributing to partner associations' magazines, developing a volunteer work project in Cameroon and advocating starting a new student researcher exchange program. I believe that my experience of being the President of the Dental Students' Association in Zagreb, Croatia could help me directing the work of the EDSA Executive. In the short but busy period (since April 2010-present) of being President of the local association I encouraged a number of students to join and actively participate in association's activities. Since then my team made important changes to the Constitution, prepared a biennial plan of activities, promotional materials and made partnerships with several companies and institutions. With the help of colleagues and professors at the University of Zagreb and the Croatian Academic and Research Network, in the academic year 2010-11, our association will implement a project for improving oral hygiene in patients at intensive care units and in May 2011 we are hosting the 1 st International virtual dental students' congress. As a hard-working person and strong advocate of teamwork, innovation, modern technologies, research and ecology I would try to incorporate the same values into my contribution to the EDSA. I would like to work on optimizing the productivity and communication among the EDSA members by introducing evaluation of EDSA events and projects and encouraging usage of collaboration software. I support the changes of structure and existing protocols that would facilitate the efficient work flow by ensuring better distribution of human and financial resources. I advocate drawing up budget and plan of activities, allowing individual membership in the association, establishing a supporting fund for delegates as well as awarding most active among delegates. I would continue the work of past EDSA leaders and foster collaboration with other organisations in and outside Europe and European institutions that could help training EDSA members to plan, implement and evaluate projects, to be successful leaders, researchers and reliable associates. Being aware of the great importance of the EDSA, deriving momentum from the enthusiasm of its members, I am willing to devote my time and energy to its advancement. I am prepared to accept the duties and the responsibilities assigned by the Constitution and by the General Assembly. Based on my leadership experiences and honest commitment to the EDSA I believe I would be a competent President. I hope that you will consider my application and allow me to continue working on accomplishing EDSA's mission. Sincerely, Maja Sabalić EDSA General Secretary 2009-10

July 30, 2010

Dear EDSA members,

I am writing to announce officially my candidature for the position of President of the EDSA for 2010-11.

With the help of colleagues and professors at the University of Zagreb and the Croatian Academic and Research Network, in the academic year 2010-11, our association will implement a project for improving oral hygiene in patients at intensive care units and in May 2011 we are hosting the 1st International virtual dental students' congress.

Sincerely,

Maja SabalićEDSA General Secretary 2009-10
