Skills/Knowledge: - Describing distribution- Drawing annotated diagrams- Comparison questions
Question Overview: Q1) With reference to Fig. 1, describe the distribution of tectonic hazards. [3]Q2) Using an annotated diagram, describe the internal structure of the Earth. [5]Q3) Compare between the Earth’s inner core and outer core. [3]
Teacher’s General Feedback:
Observation Tick and/or Comments
Lack content knowledge or incorrect referencing
Misconception of knowledge
Misinterpretation of question
Mis-analysis of question marks
Awkward expression of answer
Mismanagement of time / effort

This has to do with how you answered. Do not just blindly copy the observation above!

Core Assignment 1
1 Study Fig. 1, which shows the distribution of natural hazards around the world.
Map showing distribution of natural hazards
Fig. 1
With reference to Fig. 1, describe the distribution of active volcanoes. [3]
2 Using an annotated diagram, describe the internal structure of the Earth. [5]
3 Compare between the Earth’s inner core and outer core. [3]
Handy tips!!!
- Describing distribution?> General distribution patterns (where is the majority of what you want to describe)> Provide evidence for general pattern (give names of continents, oceans, countries or plates)> Specific distribution patterns / anomalies (where is the minority of what you want to
describe)> Provide evidence for specific pattern (give names of continents, oceans, countries or plates)
- Annotated diagrams?> Remember, you have to draw a large enough box (recommended size: half a page, at least 12cm by 12cm) to fit your diagram inside TOGETHER with short notes on each part of the diagram e.g. a short note about what the mantle is like
- Comparison?> The command word “compare” means similarities AND differences. So make sure you have both. One compared characteristic (A1 vs. B1) counts as one point.
