Greetings from the President: I hope you all have enjoyed your summer and are looking forward to another exciting year. Hats off to the Women of Woodside! Did you know that we are celebrating our 30 th anniversary this year? As we begin our celebration, we hope that you will join us for the annual Fall Kick-Off Event on Tuesday, September 11, to be held at the Woodside Plantation Country Club. Were looking forward to greeting old and new friends alike. This is a cant miss event and your best opportunity to find out whats planned for the upcoming year and to get involved in all that W.O.W. has to offer. In addition, youll have a chance to meet our new board mem- bers and to view our new website. Id like to take this opportunity to discuss the structure of the W.O.W. Board. While the make-up of the Ex- ecutive Board has remained the same, we have made some exciting new additions at the General Board Level. Welcome and Member Support has been moved from the committee level to the General Board. In addition, we have created new General Board positions for two Social Committee Chairs as well as a Communication Committee Chair. All existing committees will be under the oversight of one of our Executive or General Board members. We took this step to better focus our attention on areas that we want to improve as a result of your input on our survey of members completed last year. We also think this will improve our efficiency in getting things done as well as creating better communication between board and committee members. Im so excited that Marcia McDonald and Lynette Brumfield have agreed to co-chair the Social Committee and they are already hard at work planning new events and collaborating with existing social and special in- terest groups. I think youll be very excited to see whats planned for the Fall. Hope to see you all at the Kick Off! Chris Jakubec [email protected] 847-212-8252 (C) 803-641-2011 (H)

CALLING ALL ANGELS

As we begin to think about the Christmas Season we all have an opportunity

to make “our corner” of the world a better, safer and more caring community.

How can you become an angel? Let me count the ways:

Be an Angel for the children’s program by buying gifts for a baby or young child that their parents

can’t afford to provide.

Be an Angel by claiming a Red Bag for Aiken Mental Health Association’s “Operation Santa” and provide gifts for a young adult.

Be an Angel by providing gifts for senior citizens in Aiken or Aiken County.

Be an Angel for the Children’s Place by claiming an angel tag and giving gifts to one of Aiken’s youngest citizens.

In this precarious world, we can create a moment of happiness and put a smile on faces that otherwise may have received no gifts for Christmas. Join your W.O.W. members and neighbors in the real spirit of Christmas - giving to others. Choose Angel Tags & Operation Santa Red Bags by calling Sharyn Greytak at 803-514-2770 or Tracy Spaeth at 803-226-0743 or pick up your angel tag at W.O.W’s September Kick-Off.

W.O.W. COMMUNITY SERVICES

First, we would like to thank Mary Ellen Hoffman and Karen Carman for all their time and effort co-chairing community service over the past year. As the new co-chairs, we are excited about overseeing this very signif-icant committee and look forward to working with W.O.W. to meet the needs of the Aiken community as well as service fulfillment of our volunteers.

Our year starts with helping the Alzheimer’s Association “hit a home run” at the Walk to End Alzheimer’s on October 6 at the Odell Weeks Center. Details and sign up sheet will be provided at the kick-off and an email will come out with all the needed infor-mation prior to the event. Let’s go W.O.W. WALKERS 2018!

We look forward to meeting all of you at the September kick-off and presenting the theme for year and list of community service/fundraising events that will provide fellowship and fulfilling activities for all W.O.W. members and our community.
