Characteristics of Plants 1. Made of cells (with DNA, cell wall,
chloroplasts)
2. Multicellular – no single celled plants
3. Producers – make own food (Photosynthesis)
4. Body plan (cells to organ systems)

Types of Plants 1. Nonvascular Plants – do not have
roots, stems or leavesa. NO Vascular tissue and NO seeds!
![Page 5: Plant characteristics](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062418/554e97b7b4c905fc368b505a/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Nonvascular Plants are Simple Plants.
• They are small.
• No vascular tissue means water has to move by osmosis from the ground through the plant.
• This means they must live in moist places.
• They produce spores for reproduction.

Examples of Nonvascular Plants :
• Mosses
• Liverworts

Types of Plants
2. Vascular Plants – contain vascular tissue (transpors food and water)
a. Some contain seeds
b. Some don’t contain seeds
c. Some have flowers, some
Don’t have flowers

a. seedless vascular plants
1. Vascular tissue
2. No seeds, still have spores
3. Examples: horsetails and ferns

b. Vascular seed plants
• Gymnosperm- produce seeds on the scales on of female cones. – They do not produce flowers– Have needlelike or scale like leaves– Examples: conifers, evergreens

Flowering Plants
• Angiosperm- their seeds are inside.
- All produce flowers
- most common plants on earth
