PETERSFIELD TOWN DESIGN STATEMENT

VISION

• A safe, prosperous and well designed town, enhanced by the quality of its built and natural environment

• Our past respected, with future developments sympathetic to the town’s character and heritage

• Our whole community involved in its future, through debate and discussion

• Sustainable solutions implemented in all future developments

PURPOSE

• Providing design guidance to developers as an adopted policy of EHDC - Improving the quality of development

• Involving the local community - Raising local awareness of design and environmental

issues

• Proposing ideas for implementation by the public, private and voluntary sectors

AIMS

• Adoption as a Supplementary Planning Document as part of the Local Development Framework

• Ideas and suggestions to be taken forward by all key public, private and community interests

• Petersfield was divided into 25 areas

• Each area was analysed for- its context

- building materials and characteristics

- special features and landmarks

- issues and recommendations

• The analysis was undertaken by volunteers, recruited through events and the website http://petersfield.pbwiki.com

• This Exhibition provides the opportunity to review and comment on the work undertaken

• Each display board shows the results for the different areas

• This presentation provides an overall summary of the issues and recommendations

• Development threats to character, quality and setting of town

• Better management of traffic and parking

• Enhancement of green spaces

• Improvements to lighting and signs

• Challenge of sustainability

• Flooding risk and treatment of water courses
