Connotations• The word ‘discovered’ as a very broad meaning.

• ‘Discovered’ could mean the discovery of anything, but relating to my magazine it means the discovery of new up and coming indie music and publicising it to the British market.

• I decided on this name for my music magazine as it suggests that it is something new that no one has ever seen before, meaning they will find out something new. This is what the reader of a magazine would want as they wouldn’t want to be reading information that they already know.

• Discovered also suggests that people who are not known will be brought to light in the music industry and that the audience will find out some new music/artists that they can listen too.

• The use of the colour red also brightens up the magazine as a lot of the writing inside/on the front cover will be in black or white.

Rejected ideas and reason for my final choice of title

Rejected ideas:• Indie Central – I rejected this idea as a title as I thought that because it involves the word ‘indie’ it

seems to typical of a music magazine that is about indie to have indie in the name and it would not be as creative or as unique.

• Indie City- I also rejected this idea as a title for my magazine as I thought that again it involves the word indie and it would be a lot more unique if it didn’t and would have more of a meaning to it. I liked the use of ‘City’ as it show a group of people listening to the same music and enjoying it, However I chose not to use this.

• Up and Coming – I rejected this idea as I thought that it looks a bit long to be a music magazine title and if it was one word it would be more effective as this is what most magazines do.

• Rediscovered – This title is similar to the one that I actually picked, but I thought the linking of this to what the magazine includes is less obvious and makes it seem like indie music hasn’t been around for a while, but this is not what I want to show.

Reason for my final choice:I rejected these ideas for the title of my new music magazine as I thought ‘DISCOVERED’ suited my idea

for my music magazine a lot more than the others. I thought this because discovered has more of a meaning that links in with my genre, indie. ‘DISCOVERED’ suggests that someone/something has been found out about, and that is what I want my magazine to be about: writing about and publicising the new artists that have finally been discovered and showing the audience what they’re all about and what their music involves. Also discovered shows already discovered artists in the industry that everyone knows about to give the magazine some crossover of the genres. I also picked the title discovered because I asked my target audience (17-24 year olds) and the majority of the people picked this name out of all of them as they thought it was the most effective and gave the audience an insight into what the magazine was actually going to be about before they even read it.

Content plan• I will add lots of information into the magazine about the latest music

news, mainly focused on indie but also linking to other genres so there is some cross over in the magazine, meaning it will appeal to a wide variety of people.

• I will also include an interview from the main cover artist, so the audience can find out more about the main focus of the magazine, which may have been one of the reasons they bought the magazine. Linking on from this I will add information in general about the artist on the front cover as indie artists aren’t always very well known meaning there music and information about them isn’t really known. This will give the audience more knowledge about some artists that haven’t been fully discovered by the public.

• I will add in one big article and then small sub articles into the magazine along with images, with an equal amount of both.

• In my magazine I will add in information about the recent and up and coming gigs and the new indie artists that have been discovered, linking to the name of the magazine.

• I will also put in some information about artists that have been discovered for a while that people will know, this will include indie artists and other music genre artists so it will appeal to more of a variety of people.

House style planColour ideas:

Continuous colours used throughout for the text: red, black and white mainly with other bright colours added in to draw your attention to certain parts.

Font choices:

Same font throughout, but for articles about artists (front cover artist article for example) a different font. The main font throughout will be Arial and the font used for the articles will be Arial Narrow. I picked these fonts as I thought they looked the most professional and suited the type of magazine my magazine is.

Stylistic features:

The page numbers on each page will be at the bottom and along the page at the bottom next to this, will be the name of the magazine in a plain font, as a continuous theme throughout.
