Initial Ideas ‘A promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music promo video, together with two of the three

options; a website for the band, a cover for its release, a magazine advertisement’

For this option there are many different video’s I could create with different types of music involved. I think that one of the most effective options could be to do acoustic music as I can make the footage very simplistic and yet still successful.

There are two copyright-free songs in particular that I would like to choose if I decided to carry out this brief; Up for breath by Broken Ladder or Otherside by Sophie Lagan. Both of these artists perform mainly with vocals and guitar.

Page 6: Planning

Initial Ideas ‘A promotion package for a new film, to include teaser trailer, together with two of the following three options; a

website for the film, a magazine front cover, a poster for the film’

If I chose to do this option, I would most likely chose the horror genre as I think it would be the easiest for people to act. I could also use lighting and editing to create things look more tense and scary than on the original footage.

This option means that I would not need to look into non-copyrighted music and could instead use sound effects from online websites

Page 7: Planning

Initial Ideas The idea that appeals to me most is the music video brief. I think that this would be really effective as

simplistic footage can be used. Both of the songs I looked at are similar in the fact they are simple. This means that my options as to what I can record are really widely spread.

I think that videoing something even as basic as landscapes could be effective; especially if they were from rural area’s showing contrast between rich and poor for example. Creating a manipulation of time with footage from two different times can also be successful. Adding on a sepia tone in both of these cases could create more meaning to the footage and would be a good visual for both of the music video’s. Music video’s created for acoustic artists are conventionally very straightforward and calm, often also including footage of the artist themselves playing.

Together with this option, two of three options also needed to be completed; the two I intend on making are the cover and also the magazine advertisement for the song. I chose these two rather than a homepage for a band as I believe they are more conventional for the genre of music I will be using.

Johnny CashJohnny Cash was born on February 26, 1932. He was primarily a country music artist however he spanned across many other genres including rock and roll, blues and folk music. He was well known for his deep voice and dark clothing giving him the nickname ‘The man in black’. His later music was much more sorrowful, especially the song hurt which was recorded two months after his wife’s death as she told him to keep singing. At a gig just a few weeks before he said ‘The spirit of June Carter overshadows me tonight with the love she had for me and the love I have for her. We connect somewhere between here and heaven. She came down for a short visit, I guess, from heaven to visit with me tonight to give me courage and inspiration like she always has’

Music Video

The main setting for the music video is based in Johnny Cash’s house. The lighting is dim and Cash is dressed all in black. He mainly uses instruments as his props, particularly piano and guitar however there are scenes where he sits at a dinner table covered in food. Here he pours wine over the table. There are many flashbacks to past footage to show memories. The only time the music video lights up is when they cut to a photograph of an old woman on the wall in Cash’s house.. When his wife appears behind him singing, the room gets a lot brighter.

Being a music video, the song is diegetic in some parts and then non-diegetic in others (mainly being the scenes with flashbacks in them. There is dialogue of a TV show saying ‘stay the hell away from me’ and there is also non-diegetic sound of a piano

Throughout the music video, the main two camera shots are close ups (which are usually shown when Cash is talking about sadness) and long shots to show you Cash playing on the guitar. The music video has more visual sequences of unmoving things rather than footage in one place. In the memories, when they are sitting on the train, the camera pans alongside it. There is also an eyeline match when Johnny says ‘upon my liar’s chair’. When the wife appears behind him, she is standing above him which gives the impression she is an ‘angel figure’

Text has been added on the music video at the beginning to say the artist and song. There looks as though a filter has been added to the clips to make them darker. The memory flashbacks are black and white giving a manipulation of time. There is a blue tint when Johnny Cash talks about his belongings and the camera shoots to a room filled with his achievements

The clothes that Johnny Cash wear resemble those that are worn to a funeral and therefore it shows that he may still be in mourning of his wife. When he pours wine over the food on the table, it shows that everything in his life is now worthless without her in it. He refers to house of Cash museum as his empire of dirt showing that he would prefer her to any awards. As Johnny Cash is always shown close up when he is saying something negative, it show’s his facial expressions and at the end you see him break down and this makes the audience emotional and sympathetic. When he taps on the piano key also it looks as though he is staring into space so we know that he would be thinking about his wife.

Album Cover

The image on the front cover has Johnny cash’s face on it turned facing the right. You can not see anything other than his face and it is accompanied with the text CASH in white bold writing meaning that in the shop it would stand out really strongly.

This image has been taken of a close up of Johnny cash turned to face his right side. The artist is looking down at the floor so it has been photographed at an angle meaning we can see this clearly.

The editing for this image is likely to have been lighting effects meaning that only one spotlight of the image would be shown brightly and the rest would be in darkness.

As this album cover is so empty it creates a sense of mystery to the audience which could encourage them to buy the album, not knowing what the music would be about. As his facial expression is quite bleak nothing has been given away in the photograph. The name is very bold and therefore will be appealing for the audience in the shop.

Front Cover

The image on the front cover is of Johnny Cash in black and white. The title is a contrasting green colour to stand out. The wrinkles on his face are very symbolic of age which is helpful as this appears to be a memorial page for Johnny Cash.

This image of Johnny Cash is a close-up shot. This shows his expressions really well. It is also an eyeline match meaning that the people buying the magazines will feel more personal towards the photograph.

The image has been edited so that it is greyscale. There is also a shadow that looks as though it has been unnaturally added. The text has also been added on top in the well known font.

As Johnny Cash is the only person on the page and also there is no writing other than his name and the year he was born and the year he died. This shows respect and somewhat plays the role as a memorial.

Jose Gonzalez

Jose Gonzalez was born in 1978 in Sweden. He is known for his solo classical guitar with his soft vocals. It was Jose’s song Heartbeats that helped him become a recognised singer after Sony Bravia used the song to advertise it’s televisions. Jose claimed he did not want to write about love but instead themes that interested him (after being inspired by a biologist’s book)

Page 20: Planning

Jose Gonzalez- Heartbeats Music Video

One night to be confused one night to speed up truth we had a promise made four hands and then away both under influence we had divine scent to know what to say mind is a razorblade to call for hands above to lean on wouldn't be good enough for me, no one night of magic rush the start of simple touch one night to push and scream and then relief ten days of perfect tunes the colors red and blue we had a promise made we were in love to call for hands of above to lean on wouldn't be good enough for me, no to call for hands of above to lean on wouldn't be good enough and you, you knew the hands of the devil and you, kept us awake with wolf teeth sharing different heartbeats in one night to call for hands of above to lean on wouldn't be good enough for me, no to call for hands of above to lean on wouldn't be good enough for me, no

The clip begins with aerial shots of the city with birds flying through the sky, damaged bikes and old-fashioned houses.

There is a long shot as power balls are thrown down a big hill

Extreme long shot as the power balls bounce from over where the camera is positioned so it looks as though the camera is shooting from a low angle.

We see a side view of the balls rolling down the hill and then a close up of the balls so that the area looks like a blob of colour.

Extreme Long shot of the sky as you see power balls bouncing up into the air.

A woman sticks her head out of her window.

A bouncy ball hits on the bonnet of a car

The camera rotates 360 degrees showing stop painted on the floor and shown on signs.

Balls are shown in an XLS bouncing in sync with each other.

Power balls are shown piling up on the floor, no longer bouncing.

Remainder of some balls bouncing in slow motion down the last section of the hill.

Red balls seep through a small gap and then a frog jumps out of a pipe

A dog is shown sitting on the ledge of a window.

The bins at the bottom topple over and then we see all power balls sitting un-moving at the bottom of the hill.

Music Video The setting of the music video is positioned in a small town where houses are built on a steep hill. The lighting is very bright as the sun is out and the props- power balls are all strong contrasting colours. There are other props used such as cars and stop signs also

The only music that is played in this music video is the non-diegetic music of the artist which is overlaid on the top of the video clips.

The music video has a variety of camera shots ranging from extreme-long shots to close-ups. As the music video does not tell a story, the camera shots that are used do not really affect what people think about the song. There are a few shots however which match up with words such as ‘simple touch’ when there is a close up of a power ball banging on a car bonnet and ‘awake with wolf teeth’ when you see a dog sitting on a windowsill (MCU)

It looks as though a colour filter may have been added or the brightness and contrast levels have been altered. At the end also, as Sony Bravia created the music video in exchange for their TV being advertised at the end, there is a slide with an image of the TV on it with lettering saying ‘Sony Bravia’

The power balls bouncing could be symbolic of a heart beating which fits in with the name of the song however I do not think there is much symbolism for the song itself. I do not think the video fits very well with the music and I find it is too basic.

Album Cover

The image on the front cover resembles that of the music video as it has a still image photograph of the power balls bouncing down the hill. It also has text saying the name of the single and also of the artist in white and yellow writing. This is contrasting to the dark colours of the trees.

This is a medium long shot of the power balls going down the hill and has also been taken at an angle, from the side so that we can see the power balls are going downwards.

There looks as though the image has been brightened so that the balls are more colourful. It also looks as though the image has been blurred slightly so that people will be able to get the impression the balls were actually moving rather than it being splodges of paint.

The colours are very bright and bold and therefore it is appealing to the audience. For anybody who had seen the Sony Bravia advert, this will immediately catch their eye and therefore may make them want to buy it. It also gives people an insight to the music video without seeing it.

Front Cover

The image on the front is a medium long shot of Jose Gonzalez standing against what seems to be a stone wall. He is wearing a white shirt as this is contrasting against the background and squiggles have been added over the top to make it look more creative.

Jose Gonzalez is looking downwards giving us the impression that this image has been shot from a low angle. It also looks as though the camera has been panned to the right as Jose is looking in that direction.

There has been lighting effects added as the artists face is a lot brighter than the rest of the image. I think the wall has also been added in afterwards as it does not look natural. The text has been added in over the top and is white which stands out very well against the background

Although this is not a magazine, it has a very similar layout to that of a magazine and therefore can be compared to the other magazines. I think that as the artist is still in the charts now, this is a very modern, indie looking front cover. I think that people who would see this if it were a magazine, would be encouraged to buy it as it is very up to date.

Taylor SwiftTaylor Swift was born on December 13, 1989 in Pennsylvania. She has become a well known county-pop singer and songwriter. Swift is currently ranked the 69th most powerful celebrity after earning $18 million this year. Teardrops is one of her newer songs, being released in

Taylor claims she wants her fans to know that she is still the same girl she was when she released her first album except for now she is not high school and has a different schedule. She is still down to earth.

Music Video

The main settings in this music video are at school and also in the artist’s bedroom. At school there is natural lighting however it is much dimmer in the bedroom. Taylor Swift uses her guitar as a prop and this is shot alongside her in many parts of the music video.

Non-diegetic music is used to put the song on top of the clips. There is also dialogue at the beginning of the movie clip with Taylor Swift and the person she has an interest in talking about another girl.

There is a very wide variety of camera shots in the clip however it is mainly close-ups and extreme long shots so that people can establish the area better. There are a few visual sequences when the shots switch to different views meaning we get a better idea of how the artist is feeling.Very often when she is talking about feeling hurt, the camera views into a close-up so that we can experience this in more depth.

It looks as though the contrast and brightness levels in this clip have been altered to make it look less dull. Other than that the clip is fairly basic when it comes to editing techniques

The guitar she uses as her main prop is very symbolic and is represents the fact she needs support and therefore she looks very much like she is cuddling it in a lot of the shots. The settings are all very natural however making the clip seem more realistic and therefore more people can relate to it themselves. The video is very much telling a story and therefore it is a lot more enjoyable for the audience who would be watching it.

Album Cover

The image on the front cover is of Taylor Swift holding on to the side of her mantelpiece. The artist is not looking directly in the camera and therefore creates more mystery and increases the intensity of feelings. Taylor Swift is then written in white writing and symbolises that of a signature. It also has the name of the song written in a colour that matches her dress.

This is a medium shot of Taylor Swift that has been taken with her standing at an angle looking away which makes her come across as more vulnerable. It also looks slightly as though the camera has taken it from a slightly lower angle.

It looks as though the contrast and brightness has again been changed for this image and also as though the artists skin has been airbrushed slightly.

The fact that the artist is gripping onto the edge of her mantelpiece creates the impression that she is feeling quite emotionally unstable. This shows the audience the genre that the song is likely to be. By having the setting in a bedroom it gives a more personal feel and makes the audience feel as though they are part of the artists life. The colours blue on the walls and on the dress also are representative of the sad emotion.

Front Cover

The image on the front cover is a medium-close up of Taylor Swift holding onto her guitar with her hair flowing.

This shot has been taken as an eyeline match. This makes the shot more direct with the audience and may entice them to buy the magazine.

There has been some slight editing made to make the photograph look nicer. This mainly being with the lighting and colouring. The masthead has been placed behind the photograph as the magazine is well known. The text has also been added on top.

This magazine shows very much what the artist is likely to be like as it shows you her with her acoustic guitar and from her look you can stereotype the way she is likely to sing. The caption ‘secrets of a good girl’ also give the impression she is not the typical artist that is in rolling stones.

Lyric AnalysisI woke up this morning, and wanted to go back up for breath. Intoxicated epiphanies, late nights, then lonely bed. Regurgitation of all the day's long hard thoughts. Then comforting silence in not having to think at all.A sweet man, head full of regret. Tries to face a new day, head into the wind.I don't think anyone can see through this smile. Do you hide too? Do you hide too? I hope they can't see that I’m breaking inside. I’m smiling. I’m hiding.I’ve got some friends. They tell me that I’m okay. I shrug and nervously laugh, and slowly I turn away.I’ll go out later for a long soothing drive; gaze toward the land, and catch the tears in my lap. It’s raining, and it won't ever end. I wish i could go back, and live life again.I turned into me, now how could this be? I’d gladly improve myself by wiping out all memory.I want to find a mirror image of me, struggling to hide from reality.I’ll fight the sorrow and ride out the pain. I won't die. I won't die. Under the ocean and begging to leave, I’ll be here, yet I’ll sing.

Audience SurveyFrom reading the lyrics of ‘Otherside’, what first comes to mind? After asking this question, I received a few different answers however a lot of people thought of the same things. Some said that they thought it meant about how the grass is always greener on the other side, others said they thought it was talking about past relationships and then finally a couple of people said they thought it was about drug abuse.

What types of characters do you like to see in music videos?Almost every person answered this question to say that it would depend on the style of music. When I told them it was acoustic, they explained they would chose characters who has a very peaceful aura about them.

Do you prefer videos with a narrative or ones with live footage?Almost 70% said that they preferred videos which had a narrative. A couple of people did also say that they think it would also be effective to have flashbacks to the singer during the video.

Do you think that sepia or black and white imagery is most suitable for flashbacks?Only 20% of people said that black and white imagery was most suitable for flashbacks as they believed that sepia tones made the footage look as though it was older.

What music videos have caught your eye in the past and why?The music video that most people chose was Johnny Cash-Hurt as they believe that the lyrics combined with the footage made a very touching story.

In your opinion what makes a music video interesting? For this question I received a variety of different answers including colours, mise-en-scene, characters and also the narrative

Page 41: Planning

Audience Survey

What type of camera shot do you think is most suitable for an album cover?Almost 90% of people said that they thought that generally a medium close-up is the most effective shot for an album cover as it shows the artist clearly

Do you think the image on the front cover of a CD case should be of the artist or a still image shot from the video?Every person I asked answered ‘the artist’ for this question as they believed it made the album easier to find in a shop

Do you think that the name of the artist should be positioned at the top or bottom of the album cover? For this question I received mixed answers as people were not sure where the text should be positioned on the album cover.

If an artist was displayed in an advertisement in a magazine, which out of the following shots would be most successful: close-up, medium shot or long shot ?The majority of people believed that a close-up or a medium shot would be most successful. Only one person chose long shot. I think this is likely to be because people prefer to see the expression of an artist up close and it also means that the artist is recognised quicker.

What is your favourite music magazine for the acoustic genre? For this question, I did not receive many answers as people were not really sure which magazines suited the acoustic genre.

What colours do you feel are suitable for the acoustic music genre?Lots of people said colours such as green, brown and cream. These colours are linked to nature and therefore this is why they may have thought about these.

Do you believe that the image or the text is more important in a music advertisement in a magazine?65% of people said that the image was more important however that essential information was still very important

Mock ups

I made several mock up album covers so that I could see which I thought was most effective. Here are two styles that I think I am likely to use. One is a shot of the artist next to the tree which I think is suitable for the acoustic genre of music as it is a very calm neutral setting. The other is a close up of the artist as I found when researching, many album covers used this type of shot.

Ancillary Task- Album Cover

Page 57: Planning

I decided to look up different fonts for my album cover to see what would be most suitable for it. I wanted fonts that weren’t too simplistic and therefore here are some of the fonts that interested me. When I create my album cover, I will be trying out all these different fonts to see which is the most effective.

Ancillary Task- Album CoverPhotographs

These are the photographs I took for my first draft. I used a girl with an acoustic guitar so that the image fitted in with the genre of music. I do not however think that the images are likely to fit in well with the video production and therefore for my main draft I may re-take these shots in a different surroundingI think that the best two shots are the first two as the angle and body positioning is more friendly and therefore the audience will feel closer to the artist. They also both look very calm which fits in with the acoustic genre of music. If I re-take the photographs I think I will do them in a similar mise-en-scene to that of the music video setting so that the two can be associated with each other.

Page 60: Planning

Ancillary Task- Album CoverFirst Draft

This is the first draft of my album cover. I like the way the artist is positioned on the cover and also the fonts that have been used are effective. I do not however like the mise-en-scene of the shot as I do not think it fits in with the genre of music. I like the shadow on the face of the artist and also on the wall and think if I use a similar composition to this one just in a different background then the shot will be much more effective.

Page 62: Planning

I did not find any advertisements for albums similar to my similar texts however I found this advert for a new single and album by Frank Turner which features an acoustic guitar. I think that although the colour scheme and fonts are not suitable for my single, the general layout is something that may be effective.

Page 63: Planning

Again this is another advertisement that I like the layout of because it is appealing and attractive to the eye. I do however again know that it is not relevant to my style of music.

ResearchAncillary Task-Magazine Advertisement

I believe that this type of advertising is going to be the most effective for my genre of music as it is a lot calmer and more peaceful looking. I think I will set my photographs in a natural area like in this advert however I may try and use a layout more like one of the previous two advertisements.

Page 65: Planning

This is the mock up of how I will layout my magazine advertisement. I chose to use this space to advertise the album and also some tour dates at the bottom. I think this layout is effective as it catches the eye and also, it is very clear to the audience what the advertisement is about.

Ancillary Task- Magazine AdvertisementMock ups

Page 66: Planning

This is the first draft of my magazine advertisement. I think that the general layout of the advertisement is effective however I do not think it looks professional enough to go into a magazine. I also think that the fact the main image on the advertisement is similar to the one on the album cover and therefore I will need to do another photo shoot to improve this. I do really like the text at the top of the page however I think that I could give it a white outline to help make it stand out more than it does at the moment.

Feedback-Analysis

Page 70: Planning

EditingAfter obtaining some footage, I cropped sections of it and then added in my music. The first piece of footage that I used I decided to add text to display the name of the artist and her song. I also applied a filter meaning that the image was de-saturated slightly (which I also added to the last set of frames).

For most of the transitions between scene changes, I used ‘fade in fade out’ as it gradually blended the two pieces of footage together.

Page 71: Planning

EditingWhen putting together my first draft, I ensured that I used a variety of shots from extreme long shots to extreme close ups as it is likely to be more engaging to the audience.

I also made sure that the mise-en-scene and clothing was varied so that there was a manipulation of time.

Ancillary Task-Album CoverRedraft

I decided to redraft the album cover as the person I had used in my first draft was not used for the music video. I like the colours that have been used in this cover and also think that the text is quite feminine looking and therefore fits in with the song. The overall picture is very peaceful and therefore the genre matches well with the image. I think that for a new draft, I will need to ensure that I use the same camera as it has produced a high quality image.

Page 80: Planning

RedraftAncillary Task- Advertisement

Again, I redrafted the advertisement so this too would fit in with the new person I was using in my music video and album cover. I think that the layout of this draft is quite good however I think that the texts do not look effective enough. I like the way the legs are bent outwards and this matches up with the way the album cover has been tilted on the advertisement. As the album cover is much brighter than the background image, I think that it makes both stand out much more as they are very contrasting.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

•The model on my digipak cover is showing no obvious emotion therefore making it more suitable for the song than previous photographs I had taken of the model smiling. I found that this was quite conventional after researching similar texts.• I think my digipak composition is similar to the style of Taylor Swift’s album. Both feature the artist and text in the bottom half of the layout. I think that this is most effective because of the medium close-up shot that was used and also because of the framing of the shot. •Although the three albums I looked at did not follow this convention, I felt it was suitable to bring nature into the creation of the digipak. I feel that leaves and trees are very symbolic of the acoustic genre. I also ensured that the base colour of the digipak was brown to give people the idea that it was created from recycled products.

• No apparent codes and conventions were followed however the imagery seemed to be reflective of the mood in the songs. The layout of the CD covers were also very basic and therefore I ensured my digipak followed this convention.

Page 84: Planning

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

•The advertisements I researched did not follow the conventions that I expected for the acoustic genre. I think ‘The Auteur’ is the most conventional for the style of music however I do not think that any of the styles are overly conventional. I therefore did not follow the style of these advertisements. • I think that the colours I have used in my advertisement are representative of the style of music in my production. I again used mise-en-scenes that were bright and natural. • Two of the advertisements had white writing and therefore I followed this convention however I chose not to add tour dates as I found that this distracted the attention away from the single release.• This advertisement challenges the conventions of the advertisements I found however I do think that my advertisement does fit in well with the digipak I created and also the style of music and the footage from my music video.

Page 85: Planning

• The three music videos I selected were different to each other with only two having a storyline. These two I think were the more effective music videos and therefore in my music video I tried to create a narrative.• Although my production is not similar to any of the texts I researched, I still think that it is conventional for the genre of music. • Again I think that my production is most like the video for Taylor Swift-Teardrops on my guitar as both feature the artist playing on her guitar with a more basic storyline.

My music video

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Page 86: Planning

Who would be the audience for your media product and how did you attract them?

•I firstly created a poll online to find out what the most popular song was out of ‘Otherside’ and ‘Up for breath’. I asked people to go online and vote and ‘Otherside’ ended up being the most popular song choice. •I carried out research using people of the ages 16-21 as I felt these would be the people most interested in the style of music I was using for my production. I then used the information that was given to me to create a music video most suitable to this age range. • I found from this research that people wanted characters that seemed peaceful and therefore I used teenagers and children in my production. I also ensured that the setting was natural. • 70% of the people I asked said that they would prefer a video with narrative and they think that flashbacks are particularly effective. My storyline therefore has been created from using flashbacks in sepia tone to show a manipulation of time.

Page 87: Planning

Who would be the audience for your media product and how did you attract them?

• Every person that I asked believed that the front cover of an acoustic genre album should feature the artist•90% of the people I asked said that they believed a medium close-up would be the most effective shot to use on an album cover as it shows the artist clearly. This is therefore the type of shot that I used.

• For the magazine advertisement, only one person thought that a long shot image would be the most effective as most chose a mid-shot. After drafting however I found that the long shot photographs did work better and therefore I used one of these photographs to create my final draft. • 85% of the people I asked believed that the image was more important in a magazine advertisement than the text and therefore I ensured only the essential text was shown on this advert. •When asking what colours my audience would find most suitable for the acoustic genre, I found that they were all neutral colours such as brown cream and green and therefore this is why I chose to base all my filming and photographing in natural settings.

Page 88: Planning

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

• My main production and ancillary task were all made using the input from the target audience and therefore it is reflective of this group of people. • The people I received feedback from were all teenagers and therefore from looking at my media product, I think that it does not follow the typical stereotypes associated with this age group. • As results showed in my research that the acoustic genre comes across as very relaxed and peaceful, this shows throughout my work and therefore could reflect on the people who would listen to the music (the target market). The mise-en-scene in each of my productions is very peaceful and therefore it fits in with the conventions that people would expect.•As the character used is a teenager herself and the artist is also of a young age, there is a high likelihood that people who enjoy the music and production will be of similar ages.

Page 89: Planning

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

•Brushfire records are an ideal producer for my music as they particularly release acoustic music. This company was originally made to produce music for films however it was taken over by Jack Johnson, his wife and some friends. All music videos created by this company are simplistic and some relate to the past, therefore similar to the style of the one that I created.

Ideal places for the music video to be distributed include: • Online publishers such as Bandcamp, Napster, Itunes, Amazon and play• Music stores such as HMV and Zavvi•Social networking websites such as Myspace•Television and online broadcasting websites such as YouTube (These are likely to be more popular with the target market as 8/10 teenagers are estimated to download illegally to avoid costs of music)

Page 90: Planning

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

•Before completing this task, I had never used a video camera or final cut pro before and therefore I had to learn how to use these effectively enough to produce a music video. •I found it easier to sync the footage to the music than I did to edit the footage as I was not used to the way the program worked. •Although the editing on my music video is quite simplistic, I think it is effective for the style of music that I have produced.•I extended my knowledge within Photoshop particularly when making the digipak and learnt new things that I hadn’t come across before such as curving the edges in the photograph and using more original brushes than the pre-loaded ones on the system.• Documenting my progress on Radiowaves was an effective way for me and my classmates to help each other and I think that using this website was quite easy.

Page 91: Planning

How effective is the combination of your production and ancillary tasks?

• I believe that combining the production and ancillary tasks helped to improve them all as it meant that all were similar and therefore more conventional.

•When looking at the pieces of work I had done and comparing them, I was able to redraft to ensure that they all followed the same codes and conventions.
