The battle between the

Rise of Planet of The Apes and Pacific Rim

Science Fiction is the myth-making principle of human nature today

according to Lester Del Rey. From my point of view, the word, science fiction

or better known as Sci-Fi is a sociological study of the future, which poses the

effects of contemporaneous or extrapolated scientific discoveries. Sci-fi films

were born during the fallout of the industrial and the uprising of scientific in the

early 19th century.'Le Voyage Dans La Lune', a Georges Meties production

from 1902 was the first motion picture from this genre. Movies that were set in

the future such as Star Trek or have a vision of the future are also considered

as Sci-Fi movies even though the movie content does not necessitate on

aliens or intergalactic wars.

As I was wandering around my study room thinking of what movie to pick,

suddenly my eyes sets upon an ape-looking robot that was staring right at my

eyes with an audacious eyes. In a blink of an eye, the words Apes and Robots

suddenly came across my mind. Therefore, I decided to differentiate on the two

Sci-Fi movies, Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) and Pacific Rim (2013). Rise

of the Planet of the Apes talks about a chimpanzee, Caesar who has inherited

human-like intelligence and emotions from an experimental drug. One day,

Caesar found himself taken away from the humans he loves and was imprisoned

into an ape sanctuary in San Bruno. Seeking justice for his fellow inhabitant,

Caesar gave the apesa viral-based drug, whichhe inherited. He then gathered a

simian army and escaped from the sanctuary and seeked for freedom. On the

other hand, Pacific Rim is a movie that talks about a war that would take millions

of lives due to the monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju from the sea. To

combat the Kaiju, massive robots called Jaegers were invented. On the verge

of defeat, two unlikely heroes, Charlie and RInko sacrifice themselves as

mankinds last hope against the mounting apocalypse. The differences

between these two movies are the alluring setting, the fascinating storyline

and the idiosyncratic creature.

Since both are Sci-Fi movies, it can be assured that the milieu of the place is

definitely eye-catching. However, I prefer Pacific Rims movie setting rather

than Rise of the Planet of the Apes. This is because when I heard about the

movie, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, a picture of greenery was pictured in my

visionary mindHowever, the elements of nature is rarely found in the movie.

When the word Pacific Rim comes into onesmind, one will definitely think of

countries and cities located around the edge of the Pacific Ocean. For

instance, Japan, China, Australia and United States of America. The title

clearly shows that this movie was filmed in all these countries. The panoramas

of those cities are more than what I had imagined. Even though, the cityscapes

of Pacific Rim are not as futuristic as the movie, Tron but it is still rational.

Although, it has an aesthetic view but everything was being destroyed by the

monstrous creature like a whirlwind. On the contrary, various types of plants

and trees are extravaganza in the beginning of the Rise of the Planet of the

Apes. There are only two words to describe the greeneries: Gods Creation.

Obviously, without the human involvement, everything will remain habitual.

Nonetheless, in order to work on a viral-drug, they had caught hold of the

primates and used them as experiment.The movie pictures the concern of the

world on the benefit of humanity rather than nature. The prominent

characteristics of egocentrism, inconsideration and materialism have caused

the world to act in an inhumane manner. Nevertheless, it is never too late to

stop this act of inhumanity.

The enthralling storyline in both movies also vary. The movie, Rise of the

Planet of the Apes talks more about freedom whereas Pacific Rim talks about

peace. In Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Caesar, the ape with a human-like

intelligence and emotionsleads the other primates to fight for their own

freedom. These animals have been ill treated by the human beings. This is

because they are used as a lab experiments for a viral-based drug "ALZ-112

that cures brain ailments such asAlzheimer's disease.They should be treated

in the way they should be. Even though, the primates may have caused havoc

in the city during their way to the Red Forest but they do not hurt anyone. This

way of thinking should be also practice by human beings. If apes have the

ability to have that way of thinking, why not humans? In contrast, Pacific Rim

focuses on the peace of the Pacific Rim countries. In order for the countries to

live in peace a harmony, the countries came out with a strategy that involves

massive complex robots or better known as the Jaegar program.

However, the Kaiju came back stronger each time they lose. During the

last battle, the leader,Stacker Pentecostpilot came back to the team

as part of a desperate plan to destroy the portal. During the odyssey to the

portal,Stacker Pentecostand Chuck Hansensacrificed their life in order

for their teammates to continue on their journey to the Kaijus portal.

Tears of joys are shed when the other two Jaegar pilots managed to

destroy the portal and the whole nation regained back their amity.

Freedom against peace? I would preferably choose peace in Pacific Rim.

This is because in order for you to have freedom you must first have peace.

For instance, it is not easy to regain freedom when there is no peace in the

country.

Last but not least, Pacific Rim has a better divergent of non-living things

compared to Rise of the Planet of the Apes. In Pacific Rim, the graphic design

of the prodigious machine is indescribable because it is an experience that we

wont get it in our world today but maybe in the years to come. However, there

are only primates in the movie, Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Striker

Eureka, Coyote Tango, Gipsy Danger, Cherino Alpha and Crimson

Typhoonare all of the giant robots that can be found in Pacific Rim.All of the

Jaegar that are formed under the imagination were assisted with modern

computing technology. With the capability of the modern computer technology,

Miguel Lee, the creative director of Pacific Rim was able to design it more

than a person can imagine. Inversely, the primates are distinctive too but the

only pice de rsistance about it is that those apes that were infected with the

virus "ALZ-112 has the capability to communicate like a human being despite

its human-intelligence.

In a nutshell, it is perspicuously stated that I prefer Pacific Rim as to the Rise of

the Planet of the Apes because it has a more captivating setting, mesmerizing

storyline and eccentric creature in the Pacific Rim. In addition, I would

propound that the film director is able to come out with the next huge motion

picture, Pacific Rim 2 : Rise of the Kaiju. Since this movie did not win any award

in the year 2013, the director, Guillermo del Toro should ameliorate in the

second big hits on the screen. In conclusion, I really hope that Guillermo del

Toros next movie on Pacific Rim will be a hit to the nation . Hopefully, it will be

nominated as well as be able to also win the best movie in the Academy

Award.
