Situated on the Howitt Spur Road the Mount Taylor Trail Bike Visitor Area is located 15 km north of Bairnsdale and serves as an excellent launching place for your ride within the local State Forest. Location and access Bairnsdale is approximately 275km east of Melbourne, on the Princes Highway. To access the Mount Taylor Trail Bike Visitor Area from Bairnsdale, follow the signs to Wy Yung, and then travel north along the Bullumwaal Road for approximately 7km. Turn right onto Boyds Road, follow Boyds Rd. across Mt Taylor Creek and up past a quarry on the left. The trail Bike visitor area is 400m past the quarry. It is immediately past the intersection of Howitt Spur Rd and Jones Rd. What facilities are provided? Facilities at the Trail Bike Visitor Area include: Parking area accommodating both vehicles and trailers Trail Bike unloading ramp BBQ Information board with a map Picnic tables and seats Signposted riding routes Riding routes There are no seasonal road closures on these rides. Route 1 – Nicholson River Track Medium Return 77km Intermediate riders This loop is mostly a medium grade of difficulty with a few more difficult sections. It comprises of open forest roads and narrow steep and hilly tracks. Some steep sections may become slippery following rain. There are a few creek and river crossings which are usually shallow. Route 2 – Merrijig Track Medium Return 84km Intermediate riders A medium grade of difficulty, with a few more difficult sections, this loop comprises open forest roads and narrow steep and hilly tracks. Some sections are not maintained and have overgrown vegetation and intersections may not be obvious. Some steep sections may become slippery following rain. There are a few creek and river crossings which are usually shallow. Route 3 – Destination Dargo Medium One way 101km Intermediate riders Mostly a medium grade of difficulty with a few more difficult sections, this is a one-way route to the township of Dargo, where fuel, accommodation, food and some motorcycle spares and repairs are available. The route comprises open forest roads and narrow steep and hilly tracks. There are some serious steep sections that may become slippery following rain. There are some creek and river crossings which are usually shallow. Ride for Tomorrow To ensure the enjoyment of all the different forest users, please note the following: Riders must be licensed - motorcycles must be registered Ride Legal - Stay on formed Roads Please take your litter home Respect the Environment – Respect Others DELWP and VicRoads have developed signs to indicate noise sensitive areas where riders should ride more slowly and quietly. Obeying these signs is voluntary (ie. not a legal requirement), but if riders ride slowly and quietly in these areas, it will help keep the peace and be greatly appreciated by other forest users and nearby residents. • Personal locator beacons are available for loan from the Bairnsdale Police Station.43-45 Main St. Bairnsdale. Phone: (03) 5150 2600.

Seasonal road closures Some roads within the forest are seasonally closed each year from the Thursday after the Queen’s Birthday holiday through to the Thursday before Melbourne Cup. This is to protect track surfaces and the environment, and for public safety. Road closures may be extended beyond these dates, depending on weather conditions. These closures are enforced by a gate. Contact DELWP for more

information on road closures or visit www.ffm.vic.gov.au/visiting-state-forests/forest-and-road-closures

Forest use guidelines • There is no rubbish collection service so please take your

rubbish home.

• Dogs are allowed in State forest but must be under direct control at all times and are expected to be on a leash in picnic and camping areas or when near other visitors.

• Motor vehicles including motorcycles must not be driven off formed roads or on walking tracks. All vehicles must be registered and drivers licensed.

• Use toilets where provided. At some sites hand washing facilities and toilet paper may not be supplied. Come prepared.
