Two haart estate agents have raised an incredible £3,000 for charity walking the Cumbria Way.

The pair, Rob Smith and Craig Burns, teamed up with two friends, Lee Barber and miles holden, for the mammoth four day trek in aid of the company’s magic moments Charity.

The four, who had done no training prior, walked upwards of 20 miles each day on foot, for the journey from ulverston to Carlisle. This included the ascent of high Pike, one of the highest fells in the region, at over 2,100 feet.

Rob Smith, Divisional Sales Director for haart, explains: “It wasn’t really the physical challenge as much as the mental challenge that was tough. But whenever you started to wonder why you were doing it, especially when it came to some of the climbs over the fells, you just thought of the Charity and the children it helps and that gave you all the motivation you needed to continue.”

Although all four of them are all still struggling to get into their shoes for work thanks to blisters the size of golf balls on their feet, they have already started planning their next fundraising walk next year – the Cleveland Way. Look out for them in 2012.

Spicerhaart entered five boats of 18 people into the race, which was organised by the Rotary Clubs of Tower hamlets, Canary Wharf, newham and Barkingside. Buying a house is the biggest investment you’re ever likely to make, so it’s important to get all the

information before you start. here’s the haart guide to some of the mortgages on the market

Mortgages on the market

Fixed raTe morTgageSFixed rate mortgages are ideal for those who like to

know how much they are paying each month.

TracKer morTgageSThis tracks the Bank of england Rate for a set period

of time, e.g. 2% above Bank Rate for two years.

variaBle raTe morTgageSWith a variable rate mortgage you’ll pay the lender’s

standard variable rate of interest (SvR).

diScounT raTe morTgageSDiscount rate mortgages have the interest rate

set below the SvR for a limited time period.

caShBacK morTgageA cashback mortgage will give you a cash lump sum once you’ve completed on your purchase.

FlexiBle morTgageFlexible mortgages allow you to alter your

repayments to suit your situation.

currenT accounT morTgageSCurrent account mortgages combine your

mortgage with your current account, so in effect you have a very large overdraft.

oFFSeT morTgageSWith offset mortgages the funds you have in savings or current accounts are taken into consideration when the

5 Easy Steps Towards Creating an Eco-HouseholdIn an ideal world, every household would invest in solar panelling enabling us to sell power back to the national grid; an intuitive heating system that can lower the heat in uninhabited rooms and radiant heat flooring that would rid your home of wasteful radiators altogether. however, most of us have neither the time nor the money to make these changes. Instead, try these simple steps towards creating a more eco friendly home – every little helps!

inSulaTionWith our homes leaking carbon into the atmosphere, we are damaging the environment and our pockets every day. Insulate your loft carefully to have a positive effect on the planet and your fuel bills.

lighT BulBSmake a simple choice to swap your light bulbs for a compact fluorescent lightbulb (CFL) instead of incadescent bulbs. They last longer and use up to 80% less electricity.

recYclingup to 60% of rubbish that ends up in the average uk household bin could be recycled. If recycling seems too much like hard work, try investing in a kitchen recycling bin to ease the pressure and keep things easy. There is a wide range available at www.kitchenrecyclebins.com

deTailSRemember that whatever you use in and on your home will have an effect on the environement. use eco-friendly household cleaning and personal care products where possible. even DIy can have an effect with house painting being listed as one of the most dangerous jobs due to the toxic fumes inhaled. Try nutshellpaints.co.uk for organic alternatives.

Shoppinguse canvas bags at the supermarket instead of plastic bags and be aware of what goes in your trolley. Avoid eating fish that has been overharvested, try to buy in bulk to reduce waste and shop for organic food from a traceable source where possible.

5 Top BBQ TipsTo avoid overcooking food and allowing it to go cold, try cooking one or two dishes at a time and eat as you go. your guests will enjoy each part of the meal and won’t end up with a plate piled high of one of everything.

When using a gas bbq, larger joints or whole chickens can be cooked indirectly. Simply heat the bbq to maximum temperature, place the meat on a bbq plate, lower the temperature and close the lid for the perfect slow-cooked dish with that distinctive barbeque flavour.

For additional flavour and to help deter bugs from the barbeque, try adding dried herbs to your coals. A stick of rosemary would do just nicely.

When turning your meat, avoid using a tool that may pierce it and allow the juices to flow out. use barbeque tongs or a turner instead.

Food is best cooked over glowing embers rather than flames which can cause burning. keep a spray bottle of water handy to extinguish flames as they appear.

This wooden trunk makes for the perfect garden storage solution and doubles as a cute seat when accessorised with ecclectic cushions. We love these ones from The Contemporary home.
