MESSAGE

The Department of Management Sciences in our College runs an MBA Degree programme for more than two

decades, with approval from AICTE, New Delhi. Government of Andhra Pradesh and affiliation from Acharya Nagarjuna

University.

Andhra Pradesh may well be proud of the fact that amongst its numerous, reputed educational institutions, the

Department of Management Sciences of RVR & JC College of Engineering has established itself as one of the foremost

Business Schools of the State Capital in Amaravati Region.

I am immensely pleased to know that the Department of Management Sciences whose motto is "We strive to

to develop leaders capable of taking business decisions in a complex environment. I am happy to learn that the

MESSAGE

I am extremely delighted to know that the Department of Management Sciences is releasing a Placement

Brochure for its current batch of MBA students for positioning them for placement in Business and Industry.

Today, there are about 1500 Business Schools approved by AICTE in India. It is everybody's view that the quality

of Management Education varies from one institution to the other. In order to achieve excellence, Business Schools

should aim at attracting high-quality faculty, engaged in constant research, training and consulting, besides good

teaching competencies. Unfortunately, today, I understand few of them have adequate number of qualified, skilled

and competent faculty. With a view to improve the quality of Management Education, faculty members should

constantly strive to update their academic competencies by participating in seminars, conferences and workshops

with a view to keep abreast in their chosen fields of specialization. They should always stay academically focused.

Besides, the faculty should establish close rapport with local industry and business and draw upon their expertise to

make the academic programme effective and purposeful.

The Department of Management Sciences in our College is one of the best departments offering this course in

this region and all the faculty of the Department are well qualified & self-motivated. The team of faculty led by

PREAMBLE

The policy of open market economy and the consequent liberalization, deregulation that the countries have beengoing through in more recent years have thrown new challenges for the captains of Indian Industry and business forimproving their competitiveness in the national and international environment, apart from mere survival. With constantadaptation of the state of the art technology in manufacture and marginalization of the difference in the quality of theproduct, the only factor that makes the big difference between success and failure is identified to be the skill in managingthe enterprise. The industrially advanced nations used the productivity of their knowledge workers, such as managersas their cutting edge in competition than that of their production workers.

Responding to the social need for professional managers, Nagarjuna Education Society, Guntur, the pioneers inpromoting quality education thought it appropriate to start a two-year full time Masters Degree in Business Administrationin 1995 in the existing R.V.R. & J.C. College of Engineering, an institute of near excellence sponsored by the Society.The course had a head-on start with vast infrastructure and facilities, an established Library and Computer Centres, alarge contingent of highly qualified staff with heterogeneous capabilities besides a professional college atmosphere, ahigh degree of campus discipline and above all an experienced Management.

The R.V.R. & J.C. College of Engineering, located at the 11th K.M. from Guntur on NH-5 is spread over 51.8acres with a built up area of 9 lakhs sq. ft., land, a serene atmosphere, the nature blessing it with abundant naturalbeauty with planes and hills. The College offers eight U.G. Courses in Engineering, four M.Tech. courses and threeP.G. Courses including M.B.A. The College is known for systematic and effective instruction and consistently producedthe best results in the University and in other examinations like GATE, GRE and TOEFL etc. The infrastructuralfacilities have been developed with an investment of over Rs. 10 Crores.

In 1998, it had become the youngest college to have been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation(NBA) of the AICTE and as on date, all the seven eligible B.Tech. Degree Courses have been accredited. It has alsobeen awarded ‘A’ grade for 5 Years by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 2014. Hence, theNAAC Certification will be in force until 2019. The college has been awarded a second position among the PrivateEngineering Colleges that have been graded by the APSCHE, Hyderabad. According to a survey conducted byOUTLOOK, the college is adjudged as one amongst the top 100 colleges of Engineering in India in 2006 and thecollege secured First rank at the B.Tech. examinations conducted by Acharya Nagarjuna University and consistantlyawarded as the “Best performing Engineering College” in the University Examinations. Selected as “Technical SkillDevelopment Institution (TSDI)” by the Skill Development Enterpreneurship and Innovation Department, Govt. of A.P.

DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT SCIENCES

The Department of Management Sciences presently offers an AICTE approved 2-Year Full-time P.G.Degree Programme in Business Administration leading to the award of MBA Degree from Acharya NagarjunaUniversity under the Semester System.

The primary objective of the Department is to train young men and women for Management positionsin Industry, Business and Government.

The Department lays emphasis on an integrated approach to Management with a focus on differentfunctional areas, in addition to the core courses, in order to impart overall competency in Managementnecessary for accepting challenging responsibilities in the real world context.

The Faculty uses effective pedagogic skills that include classroom lectures supported by Audio VisualAids, Guest Lectures to give a touch on reality, Group Discussions, Seminars, Case Studies to make thelearning effective and comprehensive.

The Department functions in an environment conducive for high academic excellence, high disciplinecreated by the commitment of the college management and the academic and administrative competenciesof the successive Principals.

M.B.A. DEGREE PROGRAMME

ADMISSION CRITERIA

Admission into the course is based on the rank secured by a candidate at an Entrance Test conductedat the State level after the qualifying examination. The admission into the course in all colleges is centralizedat the University level and is made by the Convenor appointed by the University, subject to the regulations ofthe University and statutory reservations of the Government of Andhra Pradesh.

The students that have been admitted into the Programme during 2015-17 have been drawn from suchof the disciplines as Commerce, Arts, Sciences including Engineering and Management.

Viva - Voce Examination

Each theory paper carries 100 marks, of which 70 marks are earmarked for semester – end examination, and 30marks are for internal assessment to be awarded by the teacher concerned on the basis of two internal tests for 20marks, 5 marks for participation in seminars and group discussion (G.D.) and 5 marks for attendance. Two Internal testsare conducted and the performance of the best of the two is taken. However, if a student fails to take the tests; seminar/G.D., no supplementary Internal Tests; Seminar/ G.D. will be conducted. No minimum qualifying mark is prescribed inthe case of internal assessment.

SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME AND VIVA-VOCE

For the award of the MBA Degree, it is mandatory for the student to undergo internship with a reputed business/industrial house, for a period of 8 weeks at the end of the first year under the supervision of a Senior Faculty in theDepartment and a Senior Manager at the host company. The objective of the internship training programme is two-fold.It gives an exposure to the students of the corporate world and an opportunity to gain better insight into the working ofan organization and to test out the application of Management concepts in the real world business context that thecandidate has picked up during the course of the programme. The candidate has to take a viva-voce examination at theend of the second year based on the course work he has done during the programme and the report on the summerinternship.

INDUSTRY - INSTITUTE INTERFACE

The Department of Management Sciences strives for building up lasting relationship with industry for a meaningful

interaction with a view to get to know it and enhance respect between executives and academicians for a two-way

transfer of knowledge and exchange of experiences. This is achieved through its guest lecture programme, student

visits (accompanied by Faculty) to industrial units for hands-on experience, research projects undertaken by the

Faculty on live business problems and industry participation in the seminars/workshop programme. It is gratifying to

note that the local industry came forward to sponsor National Seminars organised by the Department on contemporary

business topics in the past. This year leading Business firms sponsored a Management Student Meet

MANMEET–2017 organised by the Department.

APREDA PROPERTY SHOW - 2016

As a part of the Industry - Institute interface, all the students of MBA took active part in the three day Andhra

Pradesh Real Estate Developers Association, APREDA Property show -2016, Which was organized by the APREDA

Guntur Chapter, in association with the Department of Management Sciences, RVR & JC College of Engineering,

during 7th-9th October, 2016, at Chebrolu Hanumaiah Pranganam,Guntur. The students of Management took active

part, anchoring and volunteering the show. The guests distributed certificates of participation to the students and a

memento to the college. The Department of Management Sciences received accolades from everyone for their untiring

efforts in making the program a grand success.

SHORT VISITS TO INDUSTRYThe students of the MBA Degree Programme are taken on short visits to industrial units located in the area

during the course of their study period with the primary purpose of exposing them to the world of practice and foracquiring first hand knowledge of the state of the art of Management, the way business problems are identified andanalysed and decisions arrived at in the real world situations, such that they appreciate better the relevance of classroom exposure through executive interaction.

GUEST LECTURE PROGRAMMETo narrow down the gap between the theory and practice, the Department organises Guest Lectures by practicing

business executives and eminent academicians from more reputed Institutes of Management as part of the academicprogramme.

Every attempt is made to widen the knowledge base of the students and to remove deficiencies in theirunderstanding of the principles and practices. During the current year, lectures have been arranged in various functionalareas of Management by senior executives from ITC-ILTD Division, Guntur, Jaguar Ltd, NSEIL, Hyderabad and SisterUniversities, among others.

Our Journal Section in the Library

LIBRARY

The college is endowed with a four storeyed 14,000 sq. ft. Library with a rich holding of nearly 28,616 up to datetitles and 99,928 volumes in various branches of Engineering, Management and its related disciplines such as Computers,Statistics and Mathematics. 112 National, International Journals and On-line Journals like IEEE, ASME, ASCE, Springer,Mc-Grawhill, J - Gate, Elsevier are subscribed for to cover different functional areas of Engineering, Management andrelated branches of study. The quality-rich library facilitates to keep the students and the Faculty abreast of the latestdevelopments in their chosen fields of specializations. The students have access to the photocopying facility in thelibrary.

The library also maintains a separate Book Bank specially funded by the Department of Social Welfare, Governmentof Andhra Pradesh, for exclusive benefit of the students that belong to weaker sections of the society.

COMPUTER CENTRE

The college, because of its exclusive focus on Professionaleducation, is naturally fully equipped with computer softwarelaboratories. With 18 air conditioned computer centres and 1500terminals with latest configurations. Besides the college possesseslicensed versions of the software, a language communication lab fordeveloping communication skills and for serving the training needsof students effectively.

The Nagarjuna Education Society, the sponsors of the Collegeof Engineering, is always ‘student-friendly’ and aims at maximizingvalue addition to the student in all the academic policies it pursuesfrom time to time. As a part of its student-friendly philosophy, a CityCentre in Guntur town is set up by the college management with areference library and a full fledged computer center with Internet facilityfor those students and Faculty who want to work beyond the collegehours and to keep abreast of the world in a rapidly changing environment.

The faculty is committed to train the students for participation in various “Students Meets” organized by differentBusiness Schools in the state, our students won many laurels in various events such as Market Makers, Young Manager,Business Quiz, Stock Marlet Event, HR Event etc. by bagging the first and second place. The Eighth Peter F.Drucker Lecture was organized by the Department of

delivered the Memorial Lecture on "Life Long Learning : How to Survive in the Age of

NSE - NCFM CERTIFICATION: 2017

National Stock Exchange (NSE) is India's leading stock exchange covering various

cities and towns across the country. NCFM is an online testing system which tests the

practical knowledge and skills required to operate in the financial markets. NCFM offers a

comprehensive range of modules covering different areas of finance. Realizing the huge

gap for qualified financial professionals who are trained in stock market trading to guide

the investors, NSE stepped into education sector and is trying to bridge the gap between

industry and academia by giving a chance to capture various job opportunities in areas

like investment Banking, Insurance, Mutual Funds, Stock Broking, Currency Trading and

Advisory Services. Our Department includes NCFM Certification in final semester as a

part of regular curriculum. The Students had taken the Equity Derivatives Beginner's Module.
