Morning Meeting
Morning Meeting is a time when the class comes together to discuss the day’s events, go over the calendar and share any news or information. We sing songs and play games to create a community of learners.

Language Arts
All classes use an Emergent Literacy approach. This includes pre-reading and writing skills, inventive spelling, concepts of print, and common sight words. Science and social studies curriculum are integrated during the Language Arts block, as well as ESOL strategies.

Math/Science
SAS uses Everyday Math curriculum. We combine this curriculum with larger themes and projects. The basic skills include: counting, sorting, classifying, graphing, patterns, measurement, colors and shapes.

Thematic Curriculum
Students will learn all previous concepts (Math, Language Arts, Science, etc.) through a thematic approach that include five large projects throughout the year.

Lunchtime
The children sit as a class group during lunchtime each day. They are served a balanced meal and are encouraged to eat their vegetables while using good table manners. Students are allowed to eat as much as they want, as long as they eat what’s on their plate first.

Snack Time
Nourished and hydrated children tend to perform better at school. Pre-K students eat a morning and an afternoon snack. We encourage healthy lifestyles so please help support us by sending in healthy snacks only!

Recess
“Brain Breaks” are important for everybody, but especially for young children. Our Pre-K students get ample opportunities to exercise and socialize numerous times a day.

Quiet Time
This is a time for your child to gather their thoughts and reflect on the day’s events and prepare themselves for the second half of the day.

Health and Safety• Children need to be ‘fever free’,
without medication, for 24 hours before they can return to school.
• Children need a written note from a doctor to be excused from swimming and P.E.
• Allergies will be taken into consideration when classroom celebrations include food.

Things to Remember!• Arrival is 7:55 am• Dismissal is 2:55 pm• No toys at school unless specified by the teacher• PTSA volunteer form• The Phone Tree is only used in emergencies. • Dress your child comfortably with clothes they can easily
secure themselves. (eg. elastic waistbands, velcro shoes. Crocs are not suitable for outdoor play or P.E.)

Helpful Hints!
• READ to your child everyday at home. Make it part of your daily routine. This will make a huge difference!
• Encourage independence on daily tasks.• Describe things in the environment (colors,
shapes, counting, etc.) • Praise good behavior and manners
