Jumping on the Fanwagen, tailgating billboards and sunbathing with QR codes. Strange days indeed. Have a slice of pizza and think about it.

Amazon, Now a Book LenderlineKindle Owners Who Subscribe to Prime Service Will Be Able to Borrow E-Titles

As the e-reader and tablet wars heat up, Amazon.com Inc. is launching a digital-book lending library

that will be available only to owners of its Kindle and Kindle Fire devices who are also subscribers to

its Amazon Prime program.

The program will be limited, at least at the beginning, in what is available to borrow. Amazon will

initially offer slightly more than 5,000 titles in the library, including more than 100 current and former

national bestsellers, such as Stephen R. Covey's "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People."

None of the six largest publishers in the U.S. is participating. Several senior publishing executives

said recently they were concerned that a digital-lending program of the sort contemplated by

Amazon would harm future sales of their older titles or damage ties to other book retailers.

Moreover, Amazon will restrict borrowers to one title at a time, one per month. Borrowers can keep a

book for as long as they like, but when they borrow a new title, the previously borrowed book

automatically disappears from their device

Seventy Percent Of Parents Help Underage Kids Get On FacebookWashington Post

Seven in 10 parents of underage Facebook users admitted to helping their kids sign up.

Technically it's against Facebook policy for people under 13 to up but a Harris Interactive

poll of 1,000 parents with children aged 10-14 found they are doing it anyway, with mom

and dad's help, or at least tacit cooperation.

The study, funded in part by Microsoft and universities, found over half of all parents with

12-year-olds said they knew their children were signed up for the service. One in five

parents of 10-year-olds knew of their children’s activity on the site.

Asked how the kids signed up for the service — thus violating the site’s terms of service

— nearly seven in 10 parents said they helped their children set up accounts.

BNET: "American Football"? U.S. Soccer Overtakes NBA, NHL in Attendance

U.S. Major League Soccer has eclipsed both the NBA and the National Hockey League in terms of average

attendance at games - a feat that explains why Fox and Telemundo just paid an incredible $1 billion for the

rights to broadcast the Word Cup in 2018 and 2022. That price was more than twice what ESPN and

Univision paid to broadcast the 2010 and 2014 World Cups.

It also explains why NBC has signed on to broadcast football during primetime next season.

Of course, mere attendance at stadia isn't the full measure of a sport's popularity. The indoor arenas of

basketball and hockey have structurally smaller audience capacities than the capacious outdoor arenas of

football. And percentage attendance at NBA and NHL games tends to be nearer capacity than attendance at

soccer. (And then, of course, there's the unsolved mystery of why "sold out" games at certain clubs seem to

feature so many empty seats...)

Nonetheless, it appears that soccer is well on the road to becoming America's third favorite sport, after

American football and baseball. That will have a major impact on sports sponsorship and advertising budgets

- providing more media for advertisers to buy and increasing competition between the different sports for

sponsor opportunities, such as Adidas's $200 million pact with MLS.
