    Foreword

    Dear reader,

    We proudly present to you our brand-new catalogue. The layout has been refreshed and modernized to increase its

    ease of use. Many changes were also made to its content. Indeed, our portfolio is constantly changing in response to

    changes in both demand and supply. For example, the transition from DIN standards to Euro Standards is currently

    still in full swing. The Euro Standard has already been adopted for many items, while other items are still in a

    transition phase. The product tables and the technical information refl ect the most recent state of affairs.

    We hope that you will fi nd the information you are looking for in this document. We would also like to refer you

    to our website, www.vanleeuwen.com, for additional information. Our website was completely revamped at the

    beginning of 2009. Continuous investment in modern communication tools is a top priority for us. The proper

    exchange of information is at the root of an enjoyable business relationship. A printed catalogue naturally cannot

    compete with the internet and other electronic resources. However, the demand for our catalogues to this very day is

    still so high that we are pleased to respond to this need.

    Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any questions. Our contact information is listed on the back of

    this publication.

    I hope you enjoy perusing this catalogue!

    Customized Service

    Van Leeuwen Buizen is more than just a supplier of materials. We offer a wide range of services to provide you with the most

    comprehensive product offering possible. This way we anticipate our customers needs. Our services are designed to speed

    up delivery, and make delivery easier and more complete, enabling you to focus on your own core activities. Our services are

    subdivided into material treatments, logistics services and customer-specific services.

    1 Material Treatments

    a. Cutting

    We can cut your circular pipes and tubes to fix lengths at our own facilities:

    Maximumoutsidediameter:813mm

    Minimumlength:20mm

    Maximumlength:12meters

    For outside diameters > 813 mm, pipes can be cut to fix lengths by oxygen cutting:

    Maximumoutsidediameter:1.280mm

    Minimumlength:50mm

    Maximumlength:12meters

    mm (the abovementioned specifications otherwise apply).

    b. Angular cutting

    We can make angle cuts of square and rectangular hollow sections in accordance with your drawings. We can make simple, as

    wellassquareandtrapezoidalmitercuts.Onlyasingleanglecutispossibleateachpipeend.Theangletoleranceis-0,25/+0,25.

    c. Laser and Plasma Cutting

    Laser and plasma cutting allow many variously shaped cut-outs to be made at the end as well as in the middle of the pipe. The

    possibilitiesandbenefitsarecountless.Forexample,suchcutscanbemadewithhigherprecisionincomparisontotraditional

    cutting methods and there is less loss of material, no burr-forming and the cutting speed is higher. We would be pleased to make

    the necessary computations for you to determine if this treatment is beneficial for you as well.

    d. Shot-blasting and Priming

    Circular pipes and tubes and hollow sections can be shot-blasted and primed.

    The following options are available:

    Degreasing,pickling,rinsing,phosphating,internaland/orexternaloilingandcapping

    Definition of concepts used above:

    Degreasing: contaminants such as oil and grease are removed prior to pickling.

    Pickling: removal of layers of oxidation, annealing and mill scale, and corrosion products.

    Phosphating: treatment using a hot phosphoric acid solution to prevent rust (temporary protective layer).

    Oiling: Internal and/or external oiling (up to a maximum of 12 meters) using Shell Ensis Fluid E.

    f. Hot-dipped galvanizing and Electrolytic zinc plating

    Hot-dipped galvanizing involves immersing the material in a bath of liquid zinc. Once it solidifies, the zinc layer acquires a matte

    appearance. When pipes with relatively thin walls compared to their diameter are galvanized using this method, there is a risk of

    warping. The advantage of hot dipping is that the inside and outside of the material are evenly galvanized. The thickness of the

    zinc layer depends on the thickness of the material to be galvanized.

    3 Standards and steel qualities

    a. Notes to the Euronorms and associated steel qualities for seamless pipes

    The standards used in the past such as the DIN 17121, DIN 1629, DIN 2448 and the DIN 17175 have since been mostly replaced by

    Euronorms. The Euronorms clearly distinguish the pipes area of application. Consequently different standards now exist for pipes

    used as construction materials, pipelines or for mechanical engineering applications.

    This distinction was not as clear in the past. For example, the old St.52.0 quality was derived from the DIN 1629 standard which

    was intended for pipeline systems and mechanical engineering applications. This quality was also often used for steel structures,

    however.

    The information below explains the main standards and steel qualities under the new system of standards.

    Seamless circular pipes and tubes for pressure applicationsThe EN 10216 Euronorm replaces the old DIN 17175 and 1629 standards. This standard is designed for pipes used in pressure

    applications, such as a pipeline. This is why the associated steel qualities are designated by the letter P for Pressure. The

    value that follows this letter designates the minimum yield strength. The subsequent letter designations provide additional

    information.

    The EN 10216 comprises several parts. The parts that are relevant to us are as follows:

    EN 10216 Part 1: non-alloy pipes with specified properties at room temperature

    EN 10216 Part 2: non-alloy pipes with specified properties at higher temperatures

    EN 10216 Part 3: alloy pipes made from fine-grained steel for any temperature

    Some examples:

    a. EN 10216-1, Quality P235TR2 (formerly DIN 1629, St.37.0)

    P = Pressure

    235 = minimum yield strength in N/mm2

    TR2 = quality with specified properties relating to aluminum content, impact values and inspection and test requirements. (In

    contrast to TR1, for which this is not specified).

    b. EN 10216-2, Quality P235 GH (formerly DIN 17175, St.35.8 Cl. 1, boiler pipe)

    P = Pressure

    235 = minimum yield strength in N/mm2

    GH = tested properties at higher temperatures

    c. EN 10216-3, Quality P355 N (more or less equivalent to DIN 1629, St.52.0)

    P = Pressure

    355 = minimum yield strength in N/mm2

    N = normalized*

    * Normalized is defined as: normalized (warm) rolled or standard annealing (at a min temperature of 930C). This applies to all

    qualities designated by the letter N in the new Euro Standards.

  • Technical information for pipes and tubes

    Seamless circular pipes and tubes for the mechanical engineering and machining industryThe EN 10297 Euronorm is specifically designed for these applications. The standard consequently replaces the more general DIN

    17121 standard used in the past. The pipes are primarily used in the mechanical engineering and hydraulics sector, where the

    pipes are treated, turned, milled, etc. The steel quality designations therefore start with the letter E for Engineering.

    Some examples:

    a. EN 10297, Quality E355+AR (formerly DIN 17121, St.52.3)

    E = Engineering

    355 = minimum yield strength in N/mm2

    AR = as rolled, with no further heat treatment

    b. EN 10297, Quality E355+N (formerly DIN 17121, St.52.3N)

    E = Engineering

    355 = minimum yield strength in N/mm2

    N = normalized (hot-formed or normally annealed)

    There is another Euronorm in this area, specifically designed for the machining industry: EN 10294. This standard is used for

    machine engineering steel that in the past was designated as 20MnV6, MW 450 or Mecaval 147M, for example. The common

    quality designation according to this standard is E 470. This steel quality offers several advantages over the E355+N making it even

    more suitable for turning, such as more precise tolerances, more homogeneous steel quality, higher tensile strength and reduced

    eccentricity.

    Seamless circular pipes and tubes for construction applicationsThe EN 10210 Euronorm was developed some time ago and aside from its application to circular pipes, also applies to square and

    rectangular hot-formed hollow sections. This standard was specifically developed for steel construction applications. The steel

    quality is therefore designated with the letter S for Structural.

    An example:

    EN 10210, Quality S355 J2H (formerly DIN 17121, St.52.3N)

    S = Structural

    355 = minimum yield strength in N/mm2

    J2 = minimum average impact value: 27 Joules at -20C

    H = Hollow section

    This quality replaces the former St.52.3N quality. This does not imply, however, that the pipes are always annealed. The mill is

    required to guarantee that the required mechanical properties are attained. Depending on the mills production process and the

    pipes wall thickness, post-annealing may or may not be required.

    b. Notes to the Euro Standards and associated steel qualities for welded pipes

    The DIN 1626, 17120 and DIN 2394 standards used in the past have since been mostly dropped and replaced by Euronorms.

    The Euronorms clearly distinguish the pipes area of application. Consequently different standards now exist for pipes used as

    construction materials and pipelines or in applications requiring precision materials.

    This distinction was not as clear in the past. The former DIN 1626, St.37.0 quality for pipelines was at times also used for steel

    structures. The most important Euronorms and steel qualities are highlighted below.

    Welded cicrular pipes and tubes for pressure applicationsThe EN 10217 Euro Standard replaces the old DIN 1626 standard. This standard is designed for welded pipes used in pressure

    applications, such as pipelines. This is why the associated steel qualities are designated by the letter P for Pressure. The value that

    follows this letter designates the minimum yield strength. The subsequent letter designations provide additional information.

    The EN 10217 comprises several parts. The parts that are relevant to us are as follows:

    EN 10217 Part 1: non-alloy pipes with specified properties at room temperature

    EN 10217 Part 2: alloy and non-alloy pipes with specified properties at higher temperatures

    EN 10217 Part 3: alloy pipes made of fine-grained steel

    Some examples:

    a. EN 10217-1, Quality P235TR2 (formerly DIN 1626, St.37.0)

    P = pressure

    235 = minimum yield strength in N/mm2

    TR2 = quality with specified properties relating to aluminum content, impact values and inspection and test requirements.

    (In contrast to TR1, for which this is not specified).

    b. EN 10217-2, Quality P195 GH (now still: BS 3059, ERW 320)

    P = Pressure

    195 = minimum yield strength in N/mm2

    GH = properties at higher temperatures

    c. EN 10217-3, Quality P355N (formerly DIN 1626, St.52.0)

    P = Pressure

    355 = minimum yield strength in N/mm2

    N = normalized*

    * Normalized is defined as: normalized (hot) rolled or normally annealed (at a min temperature of 930C). This applies to all

    qualities designated by the letter N in the new Euronorms.

  • Technical information for pipes and tubes

    Welded cicrular pipes and tubes for construction applicationsThe EN 10210, as well as the EN 10219 standard can be used for circular pipes and tubes used in construction applications. The

    only difference between these two standards is that the EN 10210 applies to hot-formed pipes and the EN 10219 applies to cold-

    formed pipes. The manufacturing process is at the discretion of the producer. In actual practice, cold-formed pipes manufactured

    according to EN 10219 are almost always welded. Hot-formed pipes manufactured according to EN 10210 are available in seamless,

    as well as welded versions. The materials for these standards are designated using the letter S for Structural Steel.

    Both standards comprise 2 parts. Part 1 contains the technical delivery conditions and Part 2 contains the dimensions, tolerances

    and static values.

    Some examples:

    a. EN 10210 / 10219-1/2, S235JRH (formerly DIN 17120, St.37-2)

    S = Structural

    235 = minimum yield strength in N/mm2

    JR = specified impact values at room temperature

    H = hollow section (in this case a round hollow section)

    b. EN 10210 / 10219-1/2, S355J2H (formerly DIN 17120, St.52.3)

    S = Structural

    355 = minimum yield strength in N/mm2

    J2 = specified impact values at -20C

    H = hollow section (in this case a round hollow section)

    Welded circular precision pipes and tubesThe DIN 2394 was the usual standard for this application. This standard has been or will shortly be replaced by the EN 10305. This

    standard comprises 6 parts, focused on specific uses (hydraulics, pneumatics) or manufacturing processes (cold-drawn, welded,

    seamless) or shape (circular or square-rectangular). Only Part 3 applies to our product portfolio: welded and calibrated circular

    pipes and tubes for precision applications. Precision pipes are generally used in the hydraulics and pneumatics sectors and the

    steel qualities are therefore designated with the letter E for Engineering.

    An example:

    EN 10305-3, E235+CR1 (formerly: DIN 2394, RSt.34-2)

    E = Engineering

    235 = minimum yield strength in N/mm2

    CR1 = suitable for post-annealing (in contrast to CR2)
