The CRC-Evans Pipe Facing Machine (PFM) isused to machine precision bevels with extremeaccuracy for manual or automatic welding. Theyare typically used on cross-country pipelines,barges, and in stationary yards.

The PFM has two major parts; the clamping sectionand the machining section. The clamp section has twosets of hydraulically powered clamping shoes thatare designed to work equally and simultaneously. Themachine is secured to the pipe end by expanding theclamp shoes inside the pipe on PFMs ranging from8”-60” pipe. The machining section of the PFMconsists of a rotating faceplate with four or six toolholders each holding tunsten carbide cutting tips.

The tools can be set to machine a wide variety ofbevel designs and wall thicknesses. Each tool holdermay cut a different bevel angle simultaneously.

The PFM operation takes from 2 to 6 minutesdepending on pipe wall thickness and the experienceof the operator.

A CRC-Evans Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU) orequivalent is required to power the PFM. The CRC-Evans HPU is able to power the full range ofCRC-Evans PFMs. The PFM can also be directlyconnected to an excavator. Please ask CRC-Evansfor the appropriate flow chart.

The CRC-Evans Hydraulic Power Units [HPU’s] areused to power CRC-Evans Pipe Facing Machines.These units consist of a power drive unit, hydraulicreservoir, main pump, feed pump, main and feedpressure relief valves, pressure gauges, filters and allnecessary hoses, fittings and quick disconnectsneeded.

A Variety of Power Options

The CRC-Evans HPU’s can be setup to use a varietyof power drives. They are available with John Deerediesel power units as standard which are supportedall around the world. Other engines are available atcustomers’ request. Electric motors drivers areavailable in either 50 or 60 Hz.

Optional Features

Coast Guard Approved Motors which have epoxycoated windings, stainless steel enclosures, epoxypaint on the outside of motor, and condensateheaters.

Desert Applications

Motors are available with higher temperature orrating of 50°C.

Arctic Applications

Both Electric and diesel drive Hydraulic Power Unitscan be supplied for Arctic use down to -50°C.
