The Marvine Ranch Cancer Screening Fund provides assistance to our low-income and uninsured community members to receive necessary cancer screenings, such as mammograms. The program helps cover the cost of the mammography exam and the radiologist to interpret the exam results.

Twelve area residents received assistance from the Marvine Ranch Cancer Screening fund to assist with necessary screenings. The number of residents who need this assistance is growing. It is important to have cancer screenings available; as early detection is the best defense against cancer. Early detection gives people the best chance to beat the disease.

In August PHF partnered with Haselden Construction to host a golf tournament to assist with fundraising for the Marvine Ranch Cancer Screening Fund.

Blazin’ Trails, Around the World for Wellness is a community-wide health, movement and wellness program designed to give you the tools and resources for a sustainable healthy lifestyle. The program kicks off in January and will run in 6-month cycles. The program has features to track your individual progress as well as our community-wide progress.

Blazin Trails includes:Discounted Trails to Health annual physicals and screenings, resources for chronic disease (e.g. diabetes, high blood pressure) management, sponsored by Pioneers Medical Center.Movement and Fitness programs and challenges sponsored by the Meeker Recreation Center. Cooking Classes and Stress Management Workshops—Several times throughout the year you will have the opportunity to participate in nutrition-based cooking classes, or learn techniques to manage your hectic schedules and pressures that add stress to your day. As a “Scout” in the Blazin’ Trails program you will receive a “passport”. Each time you complete an activity of the Blazin” Trails program (e.g. get your annual physical, walk a mile, attend a cooking class, etc.) you earn stamps in your passport. You can redeem your stamps for prizes, including the grand prize for a weekend trip to Moab, Utah.

There is no charge to participate in Blazin’ Trails; and it is open to anyone in Meeker. However, you will be responsible to cover expenses associated with medical care and fitness classes you participate in. If you are interested and would like to learn more about the program; contact Sharon Parr, at Pioneers Medical Center 970-878-9373, or Katherine Sharp at the Meeker Recreation Center 970-878-3403.
