Pilot Plant Distillation Tower The Distillation Pilot Plant is made from stainless steel and the column is 15 cm in diameter and approximately 6 m tall. It has 3 sets of Koch-Sulzer structured packing with liquid distributors above each packed section. The column has two feed points: one above the bottom packed bed, and one above the middle packed bed. An industrial quality Distributed Control System (DCS) is used for computer control of the pilot plant. Measurement of temperature is at 10 locations in the column. The column is used to investigate the continuous separation of a feed of mixed methanol and water.
