Climb aboard and honor our veterans! Our special Veterans Day tribute will be aboard the USS Lexington. Dr. David Tupaj will be our speaker and he will be talking about his experiences flying with the UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicle), commonly known as a drone. Trust me, this is one meeting you won’t want to miss. Rumor has it he may bring a UAV to the Lex for a little demonstration.

I will digress a bit to say thank you to everyone who attended the 100th Anniversary Party– it was so awesome to see so many friends—some haven't been seen in years others just months. I will definitely miss all my Corpus Christi friends —you are all awesome.
And Thanks to Lysa who is a most awesome Executive Director. And Pam you have been a great addition to the staff, so glad you are there.—Debra Bruce
Ok now on with 1983………..We held a combined meeting with the Chamber of Commerce at our January 27th gathering. Loyd introduced the speaker, his own “boss” – General Richard Cavazos. General Cavazos was the commanding officer of the United States Army Forces Command and the third highest ranking officer in the Army. He was born and raised on the King Ranch and his father served nearly 40 years as a division foreman at the ranch. His brother, Larry, was President of Texas Tech University and a younger brother was a rancher in Breckenridge, Texas. One of the first things the General made clear was that he didn't use to, still didn't and never would like “Aggies”. That certainly started things off to a fantastic program. He stated that 82% of the men in the army today are high school graduates compared to 32% during World War II. The real thing ALL soldiers need is the reward of recognition and appreciation from their country.
February 17th Resolutions Chairman David Smith read a Resolution in Memory of our last charter member, Frank Allen
March 24th Dave Smith eulogized Wallace L. Dinn, a Rotarian from 1920 until his death this month.
The following is a letter to Program Chairman Jimmy Price from a famous “person” was invited to speak to our Club:

Harold Shockley
President 1983-1984; DG 1986-1987
Dear Jimmy,
Your offer is almost too good for me to turn down but I am making a special effort and doing that.
One of the outstanding things about Corpus Christi has always been that when people go there, everyone in town wants to know what they think of Corus Christi.
Try me in 1989- late spring.
Sincerely,
Andrew A. Rooney
April 7th:
Ann Pittman, who passed away the previous weekend, was honored by the assembly with a standing moment of silence.
Charlie Bennett was presented with his Blue Badge after six months plus five years as a Red Badger. President Loyd asked L. A. Train to come forward to help make the award, seems the two were “tied” for length of time getting their “blues.”
April 28th John Eidson, Chairman of the Scholastic Awards Committee introduced Ray Falk from CCISD who presented the two honor students from each local high school with Club award plaques for scholastic achievements.
Robert Workman was remembered by all who knew him. A Resolution in his memory was read by J. W. Gary
Scholarship Awards Chairman John Eidson introduced our Rotary Scholars going from Del Mar College on to CCSU were introduced. University President Alan Sugg presented some interesting facts about the University. After some very hard work by a lot of
people in 1972, the school was finally a reality. In 1973 it began with 975 students and in 1983 has increased to 3,450. Faculty had grown from 40 to 105, and degrees have been awarded to over 6,000 students.
Our 69th Anniversary Celebration was held June 23rd. Harold Shockley presided. George Tanner was introduced as a new member. Program Chairman Dana Williams presented himself as “The Program” to honor the club and its former presidents. He followed with many beginning when the Club was organized in 1914. He then honored all past presidents who were in attendance.
The Installation was held June 30th Coke Williamson, Past District Governor, installed the following incoming Officers and Directors: President – Sheriff Harold Shockley; Vice President – Chief Deputy Leroy Foerster; Secretary – Deputy Sam Pennington; Treasurer – Deputy Jim Price; Sgt.-at-Arms – Deputy Steve Roehl; Program Chairman – Deputy Terrel Cass; and Directors – Posse men - Charlie Matlz, George Brown, Mel Klein, L. A. Train and Loyd Neal, Past President. New President Harold stressed that his theme would be: “Share Rotary, Serve People.”
